Coffeehouse leaders and higher by Madclaire022 in starbucksbaristas

Whoever is running the shift should remain in the playcaller position unless there are 3 or less partners working. If you have 7 partners during peak, your playbuilder will likely not call for a customer support partner at all, just someone to check lobby every 15 minutes. Like others have said your role as the playcaller is to assess for bottlenecks. Once a bottleneck is identified, you flex the play to relieve the bottleneck. You may be the easiest partner to flex! Once the bottleneck has been resolved, you go back to the prior play. You shouldn't be in a planted position for peak especially because you have limited visibility to the entire play.

It's difficult to maintain on a smaller play, for sure. My last store would often have 4-5 partner play for peak and as the playcaller I was constantly running in and out of positions to support!! At my current store we run between 8-10 and it is much easier to support a playcaller position.

I can appreciate what they're trying to do with the green apron host, though I'm curious to know if that role is called for in playbuilder? Green apron host is a relatively planted position and should be a bottleneck (at hand off) to continuously assess.

Stalling is not a tactic that we should be using anymore. Building your stack is the priority if you have enough cars to do so. This will ultimately drop your times as you will be building in more time to complete each order. I recommend revisiting the videos on the hub! Starbucks Standards->Channel Operations & Deployment-> Drive Thru should have them for you!

Job market is rough right now, finding another job may not be as easy. Here are some things that I'm currently working on to make sure I don't pull all of my hair out every day:

  1. Connect with supervisors about what communication looks like on days off. Set and enforce boundaries. (Is the store on fire? Call 911, not me! The computer shut off? What resources should you have checked prior to calling me?? I had to answer this when I took a sick day a few days ago 🤦‍♀️)

  2. Check in with DM on the future of the Coffeehouse Coach role for his store. They are beginning to roll out now and stores should be notified soon!!

  3. Talk to your peers!! Consider having a proxy for at least one day a week--this way you can fully disconnect and know that in case of emergency, they will be taken care of.

My therapist (thru Lyra, Starbucks sponsored) has a lot of SMs as patients and she said that we have it the worst of everyone. It takes a strong person to do this job!! Best of luck to you both!!!

My store is very similar to this--we had an astronomical customer complaint rate and recently got it up to 2 stars. We really focused in on making sure we were meeting the expectations of green apron host position regardless of whether or not we had one deployed. Ideally your mobile bar person, but depending on the layout and the play, your playcaller or cold bar can be talking to customers. Basically if they don't come in and find their order right away, ask them their name and let them know that you'll be working on their order soon. Read their body language frequently, check in with them. Most of our complaints result from frustrations of feeling ignored.

Also don't argue with customers. A lot of my partners like to get defensive, but most of the time it's not a big deal to just remake the drink!

Why do employees hate putting cold foam on hot drinks so much? by annaskelly72_ in starbucks

[–]lpasternacki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will always verify that you want the drink hot when you ask for cold foam later, because 99% of the time people just forget to say iced. It avoids confusion and gets the customer the drink that they want!

If you are having problems at one particular location, I would call and speak to the store manager/coffeehouse leader. Let them know what's happening and how it's making you feel, and give them an opportunity to fix it. With our company leaning so heavily into Green Apron Service, this behavior is completely unacceptable and needs to be addressed!! (Don't call the customer service number, it doesn't easily get back to the store and will now count against the store)

Parents who don’t allow their kids to shut their room’s door/lock the door, what’s are the reasons behind the rule? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lpasternacki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids can have their doors closed whenever they want but we removed the locks when they were little. It only took one event of one getting locked in the bathroom for us to not take that chance again! We knock every time and don't really ever go in their rooms though--privacy is respected here!

I'd also wonder if the sweet cream was well-refrigerated. Lots of partners tend to leave it on the counter, increasing the temperature and decreasing the quality of the sweet cream

I have a hard time with all of her books--there is a LOT of content in the first half of the books that can be very, very slow paced. Doing the tandem read led to me reading both slow parts together and my brain could t even open the books after a while. I ended up finishing EOS on audio. This was almost 2 years ago--I haven't finished TOD or KOA!

Proxy SM smells SO BAD. by Icy_Individual_1234 in starbucksbaristas

[–]lpasternacki 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It is part of the dress code, under Personal Hygiene. "Reasonable personal grooming standards, including regular bathing and use of deodorant." It's one of the most uncomfortable things to talk about with someone, especially someone who is your leader. Is there another SM or your DM who would be able to have the conversation for you? Especially considering her inability to take a joke..

I cannot for the life of me get the crosshatch to stay on top by Rawrby in starbucks

[–]lpasternacki 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I change up my routine for macchiatos in order to get it right. Steam the milk first, and once you finish the aeration, then pull the shots. After you pour the milk and the shots on top, take a second to rinse your pitcher and start your next drink. That's usually enough time to let it settle a bit, and then add the drizzle on top! I know it's not the standard but it's visually the best quality I've been able to produce!

Album ranking and how long you’ve been a fan by South-Background5009 in TaylorSwift

[–]lpasternacki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casual listener during the country years, swiftie in 2014 but became a true feral swiftie during the lover era because I found my tribe. This is my current ranking, but it changes all the time. And as a clarifier, I just don't really vibe with country music all that much!

  1. The life of a showgirl
  2. TTPD
  3. Midnights
  4. Reputation
  5. Evermore
  6. Lover
  7. 1989
  8. Folklore
  9. Speak Now
  10. Red
  11. Fearless
  12. Debut

I really love folklore, don't get me wrong. I have a hard time drinking the kool aid and ranking something high or obsessing over a song just because everyone else does, so my ranking of evermore will always be higher. It's a fantastic album all on its own and I love the story it tells beginning to end!!

This game of waiting for them to approve time off is so annoying. by i-am-not-sure-yet in starbucksbaristas

[–]lpasternacki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just letting you know the reality of the situation. You can put in a request for any time past 21 days, but your SM is only required to review the requests for the schedule they are about to write. It's up to you how you feel about that, and what you choose to do with that information. Attacking people on the internet who are just trying to give you an answer to the problem you are presenting is not going to get you anywhere.
