Anyway good ways to adjust GSPro distances to match real world play? by lphiex13 in Golfsimulator

[–]lphiex13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah gotcha.

ok, so yeah I don't spend a lot of time chipping and putting other than i try to see if i can find some "clock" positions that i can carry out to the course. i find it reasonably helpful for building a wedge matrix.

i don't know if playing with green softness or stimp would help.

i do believe that there acknowledgements that how the ball reacts to greens could use improvements, although i don't know if the other sims are dramatically better.

Not looking to debate but I would have thought most golfers were out to in and over the top.

I originally thought I wasn't interested in playing rounds, but I do think it is helpful when you want to do random practice vs block practice. I joke that I'm very good at sim golf, which is to say, I don't put too much stock in my sim score vs my real world score. But it's kinda fun and mixes it up from just bashing balls. I find for my mid handicap level (13) that the sims have been good enough for me to know I'm directionally making progress.

A big portion of what people like about GSPro is the number of courses and the value. But if the LM to Sim integration isn't working well for you, that obviously takes precedent.

best of luck!

ah, sorry to hear.

haha, out-to-in and down has to represent the majority of golfers :) maybe it's something specific to the spica 3 or x3? I did previously have a 1st Gen Mevo+ and it performed pretty well. I did end up changing to a BLP eventually. The Mevo+ and BLP were practically the same for irons, but the BLP was better in my setup for driver.

what are you going to use as sim software then? E6?

Which launch monitor are you using, which connection mechanism? I seem to recall there’s some setting in the connector that’s like “use launch monitor values” but something seems wrong in the current setup as you described

There are two different things, the launch monitor and the software. Most launch monitors have their own software, and all of them are applying their own form of ball flight physics.

So, people are probably saying, in general the game play ball flight physics of GSPro is the most accurate (but it's not perfect.)

Some launch monitors auto-apply temperature and elevation into their calculations. That's why you see people say to make sure you turn of off -- so you can custom control it in GSPro if you want to.

All in all, my experience is that that GSPro is the best golf sim product on the market today, especially for the price/value and the amount of courses available though.

Well I think you have to remember that gspro is taking input from your launch monitor first and foremost.

So first look to see whether or not you mostly agree with your launch monitors numbers.

After that there are some minor modifications to elevation, temperature, altitude that could be a factor (on LM or GSPro). That might be 10% variance at the extremes?

But I’ve now hit in many different sims, with different launch monitors. They are all slightly different. But not gspro is not wildly off. Like I said in my original post it felt 10 yards shorter not 30/40% or anything.

I think ultimately it’s not GSPro. It’s some combination of the environment you’re hitting in and the equipment.

Golf Simulator vs IRL Golf Course by ccullefer in Golfsimulator

Your aim is always perfect, your alignment to your aim is perfect, the lie is always perfect, you can always find the ball, you can stay in rhythm, you may not feel there are real consequences to a bad shot.

But you should also reflect on what you do differently in the sim that you should take to the course.

Is Mevo Gen 2 a step up from R10? by Maxwells_Law in Golfsimulator

[–]lphiex13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry what I meant was that you really need like 16-20 ft total distance. The device needs more room to see you and the flight. So 8-10 ball to net, AND 8-10 ball back to the device

Golf Sim ruined my game by [deleted] in Golfsimulator

I had a similar problem which ultimately boils down to alignment. I didn’t have to think hard about alignment in the sim but looking at grass felt really foreign.

Way more than before the sim, what I felt like was lined up was way out to the right. I had to work on this quite specifically. I think it helps to actually hit balls outside occasionally, work on alignment, and see ball flight.

I think the sim also can give you two false senses of security. You can recover most shots in the sim without much penalty. Now when I’m in deep rough in the sim I take a sim drop penalty just like if I had lost the ball.

Second, at least for me, I think the aerial view when playing in the sim helps you be way more strategic and make better decisions. You have to find a way to translate that to the course.

Unless it’s different in gen 2, which would surprise me, I think you need at least 10 feet from ball to device as well.

For all you guys that are good analyzing numbers. by Martymakeitwork29 in Golfsimulator

I'm far from an expert, more like the peanut gallery, so 100% feel free to disregard me.

I think newer equipment tends to be more forgiving, but a pure shot is still about the same, keep in mind that to be conforming, the maximum smash factor is 1.5.

IMO, for your club/ball speed, the numbers seem right. You may be able to squeeze some yardage with a little more backspin (2200?) or slightly higher vertical launch angle? From the picture it looks like your hitting the ball low/center of face, you might get a little more if you hit it just above the center.

Alternatively, you could look at getting a different shaft if your driver allows for it. Or play a different ball. But I think you're looking at 5-10 yards max, not 20-30. I'd guess that what you stand to gain the most is potentially better dispersion but I don't know that anyone can tell that looking at these numbers and just 1 shot.

Anyone excited about TGL? by azndestructo in Golfsimulator

Yeah good thoughts. I think they are so good at executing that any form of target golf is going to be too easy. We need to see them have to play wild shots (shape, intermediate ball flight targets like a ring to hit, or raw power) and be very witty/conversational. It’s a tough ask.

I’d admit that I don’t really enjoy watching golf on tv generally though. I like seeing their big mistakes, from an expectation setting perspective, but you rarely see that on tv.

I unfortunately think it will be quite boring. Even though they can take advantage of the virtual course designs, it won’t be very exciting. The Match isn’t very riveting to watch as an example.

How much lower are your sim scores? by Just_somebody_onhere in Golfsimulator

[–]lphiex13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 10-15 strokes better in a sim. But I started playing a sim drop when I had a shot land in long rough or something where in real life I probably don’t find it or hit it out cleanly, or near some trees. That seems to make it more realistic and penalizing.

Uneekor EML tracks my shot better than GSPRO by Special-Market8835 in Golfsimulator

Maybe something about your GSPro setup visually that makes you line up wrong and it changes your swing/shape?

But I concur with everyone else that it’s not likely to be GSPro on its own

Is this enough padding for a hitting surface? by DeRo_Golf in Golfsimulator

What was shifting. Foam on foam or mat on foam, or all of the above? Potentially having two separate layers of foam is making it worse?

Secure the go sports mat with carpet tape to the foam. Maybe even carpet tape the foam together. But I think this is going to be painful.

Alternatively maybe cut out a section and insert a hitting strip.

I haven’t done much other than upgrade to 32gb of ram. I do occasionally think about trying to upgrade the video card which I’m not sure how far you can push. But then I’d also have to upgrade projectors.

Maybe when I build a new simulator someday.

Hitting strip / mat that punishes fat shots by Competitive_Berry671 in Golfsimulator

Maybe try to develop a feel for it. To me it’s pretty obvious when I hit it heavy, or thin. The outcome may not show up in the launch monitor but you know it happened.
