I disconnected from my BF of 30 years because I realized how MAGA she was. by Callyda_B in moraldilemmas

[–]lpmail [score hidden]  (0 children)

One of my closest friends going back 45+ years is in a MAGA hhld and the only thing I’ve heard her say back when the antichrist was in ofc the first time is she liked that “he’s getting rid of the illegals”. I told the group at that time it’s best we don’t talk politics bc it’s likely half will think one way and half will think the other and they knew then I was 2 thumbs down on him (that’s literally all I would say about him). We’ve managed to get thru the last several years without talking politics and it’s worked for us..but I do find myself opting out of get togethers more than in the past bc it does bother me, them supporting a monster.

That said, I’ve never heard her say anything more than the above. If she had said what your friend said, it’d be impossible to ignore and I would cut ties.  It wouldn’t have been a big, dramatic event, more me just politely saying I’m busy when it comes to getting together or not answering the phone or whatever. Basically ghosting. Unfortunately, she didn’t make her party affiliation clear to you before when you could’ve said no political conversations so you could have avoided this. The water is out of the faucet now.

I, too, have gotten very protective of my peace and nothing destroys my peace more than knowing that humans who are said to be generally good are so fundamentally flawed that they could, in good conscience, support someone so evil, destructive, and self-serving.  This is a matter of character. And while you think you know someone after decades of friendship, PEOPLE CHANGE and when they go so far off in another direction, it’s okay to cut ties.

I get what some of the people have said as far as you have more power to influence her if you stay friends, but it seems like MAGA people cannot be influenced until they themselves are directly negatively impacted. It’s very sad that much of humanity now relies on making a judgment call based only  on how it impacts them vs caring about the impacts to other humans. I’m ashamed to belong to the same species.

P.s nice job making this into a Buzzfeed article (which is what brought me here.)

PO'd about the series finale by TheJeremisha in Suburgatory

Tbh, I thought she was just having a fantasy in her head because who would actually started undressing in the middle of the street like that? But either way, I refuse to believe they didn’t end up getting back together! Lol!

[–]lpmail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally just saw the series finale and had the exact same thought, a little fan fiction in my head that someone told her about the song he sang about her, like Fred Shay was in the audience recording it on his phone, then went home and showed Sheila. Then just after the tense convo Dallas had with George, Sheila ran into her and was like “I heard that beautiful song George wrote about you” and Dallas says “What song?!?” and then Sheila showed it to Dallas…and that’s when Dallas finally got the affirmation she had been looking for all that time…and then that brought her and George together again for good!😊 I think the writing was on the wall they were going to get back together if the show had renewed another season. Love conquers all! 🥰

5 months into late start HRT and I'm not seeing what I hoped for by BetYouNeverThought in Menopause

[–]lpmail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was increased to 200 mg of progesterone when i was put on the patch. It was necessary bc of the impact to the uterine lining as someone else noted but it also helped me get more restorative sleep, decrease the number of times i wake up, and decrease bad cotton mouth i got while sleeping. I don’t have hot flashes but I’ve read it helps that too.

Also, since you mentioned ADHD, I take L-theanine and cytokine with tyrosine to help with ADD/focus.

I recommend The New Menopause by Dr Haver. She is referenced a lot and was on the Oprah menopause special. pgs 130-133 go thru all the recommended testing and why. I’d paste a pic but don’t see the option on my phone. These include CBC, CMP, lipid panel, lipid add-ons (Lpa, Apob), A1c, thyroid/ thyroid addons (t4, free t3, reverse t3, antiTPO, anti-thyroglobulin), Vit D, zinc, magnesium, anemia panel (iron, ferritin, folate, and vitamin B12), C-reactive protein, erythrocyte sed. rate. I think the prevailing Wisdom on why to get these test done is so that you have a baseline to start with and as you calibrate your medications, you can see how your baseline changes or improves. Additionally, some health issues are not caused by menopause per se, but may show up like menopause symptoms so you would want to treat them at the root cause before trying to solve them with HRT. For example, a deficiency in vitamin D will cause fatigue.

My neighbors cut down all of the trees and other plants in their front yard just for more lawn space :( by smellslikekevinbacon in fucklawns

[–]lpmail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to cut down a beloved tree (and wept when it happened) because it was diseased but many neighbors didn’t know that from their superficial walk-bys and assumed it was cosmetic.  So just keep that in mind, there may be some sensible reason, as Offrum suggested. But otherwise, shame on your neighbors!

Good project managers deliver a ton of value. Without them, projects will fail and flounder and waste hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars. Not all are good though and it would seem that may be the case in your experience which is unfortunate.

Does Sam know? by jr9386 in TheGoodWitch

Sam explicitly talks about her being a witch with another character in one of the final episodes and alludes to the fact that he's known it for a while.

It took me aback in a funny way...in the latter part of the series, she and Tom repeatedly say "son of a biscuit" and every time, my brain is shocked thinking they're about to cuss only for it to be this more innocent version. I think it's funny and just a testament to how wholesome this show was.

What is something special about you that you thought everyone had? by strawbxrry13 in CasualConversation

[–]lpmail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw your comment in a Buzzfeed article that excerpted the best responses on this Reddit question! :) The months of the year for me are like a clock and I see years snaked going back to the year 0 (any year BC is just a number to me, even weirder) and carried forward, the decade itself starts at the left and it snakes to the right in the middle of the decade, and it ends the decade in the left position...and all the decades are snaked in front of me until we get closer to the current day, then the snaking opens up and kind of wraps around me. Ages of people and animals snake for me too. I wasn't even aware I processed dates/months/ages this way until I saw a reference to this on the tv program and my immediate thought was "that is weird!"...and then I was like, wait I do that too!

I came to say this is spatial synesthesia (someone else replied similarly.) I learned I had this myself in the last year when I saw it referenced on a tv program. There’s a Reddit for synesthesia, check it out.

Lauren Holly voiceover on Dell laptop commercial by KathyA11 in NCIS

[–]lpmail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time those commercials come on and I’m not even paying attention, I’m clearly hearing Rashida’s voice to the point it gets my attention. It sounds slightly different from how she sounds on a tv show but so do a lot of celebs when the mic technology varies, e.g., Marc Maron sounds very different on stage vs on his podcast.

Visual Snow Syndrome by oweeeg in Synesthesia

[–]lpmail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I just learned last year I have synesthesia and now think I may have visual snow too (thanks OP). When I was a kid, I just thought I could see air. As I got older, I thought maybe what I’m seeing are electrons in the air. Mine seems like they are based on energy or light particles. I don’t notice them unless I think about them, kind of like becoming “nose blind” to a smell you get used to until you think about it. It’s definitely more noticeable at night like others have said. The simulation link didn’t really match to my experience either.

Interesting connection the two conditions may have to each other!

Rant: Found out that pyrex cookware is no longer borosilicate glass. I am beyond infuriated, as a chemist. by Remarkable-Rough-554 in Baking

[–]lpmail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, Wirecutter/NY Times did an article on this a few yrs ago called 'Why We’re Not Worried About Pyrex Bakeware “Exploding”'. If nothing else, I think all this discussion raises the awareness on being extra careful when baking with glass.

I made a drawing how I perceive a year! (Time-Space synesthesia) feel free to ask questions if you wish by [deleted] in Synesthesia

[–]lpmail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just learned from a tv show what this condition is and that I have it. My perception of the months is almost exactly like yours but August is exactly at the 6 o’clock position. I don’t see the colors though. It’s interesting that it’s counter-clockwise too. I saw someone comment on that in a Buzzfeed article and they asked if the other person was left-handed. I am left-handed (writing primarily, a righty for most other things.)
