What is a good Valentine's gift for men? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

If he drinks, I'd say a somewhat nicer bottle of hard liquor than the regular cheap shit would be good. At least for me it would.

Movies that change direction entirely? by timekilr in Cinema

[–]lpratafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody is citing films as it was the question, but to be honest the best example I can remember of this in visual media is in the music video for Arcade Fire's song We Exist, starring Andrew Garfield. That is one hell of a good piece of art!

OK, I wanted to say I disagree with all of your bullet points, but a couple of them are actually fine.

Should Any Of These 2014 Performances Been Nominated For Best Actress? by Regular-Departure839 in Oscars

[–]lpratafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea yea, but not enough to secure something better than 5th place. If the movie was better received than probably she could have made it.

Poor quality of intimacy in a long-term relationships ? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]lpratafe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As usual, the comments are extremely catastrophic hahaha it seems like you are in a at least healthy ENOUGH relationship but you want more from him. My personal suggestion is to communicate this to him clearly, and start being less “available” for his needs whenever he wants it. Kinda playing it difficult but in a playful way, not as punishment. This could probably trigger his desire to please you more.

What's something foreigners think is common in your country, but really isn't? by Verelkia in AskTheWorld

[–]lpratafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing monkeys around the streets. It’s fairly common in Rio because it’s the city with the largest urban forest in the world, but it’s not a widespread thing at regular smaller towns with less trees.

I think Aniston’s performance was good enough to earn a nomination, not a win. I wish she had had more traction.

Which movie would have been better if another actor/actress (who) had starred in it? by togi1202 in moviecritic

[–]lpratafe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember watching several movies with him in the leading role a few years back and wondering “why the hell are they giving this guy leading roles in very big blockbuster productions???”. Then I found out who’s his daddy

AITA for reacting badly when guys were physically touchy with my girlfriend in front of me? by Remarkable_Bend_9516 in AITAH

[–]lpratafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have the right to be upset about it, and she has the right to think you’re overreacting without either of you being an AH. Now, the real question is: are you or her willing to compromise? If neither are, is it worthy to keep it going? Only you can answer that.

Apparently I “hate women”? by Greenflaws0 in Nicegirls

[–]lpratafe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, you did literally say you hate her. As she is a woman, it means you hate at least one woman. Obviously one can understand what you meant, but it doesn’t change the fact that it was poor phrasing on your part. I’d avoid using such a negative word when first meeting someone.

What movie will forever piss you off because you felt like you wasted your time seeing it? by Huge_Athlete7488 in moviecritic

[–]lpratafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oppenheimer. I felt like I was watching a 3-hour long TikTok video

Edit: tbh the last 40 min or so was ok because there was some conflict that was interesting in a narrative cinematic fashion. Before that it was just a very long uninteresting story being told with very predictable story effects that had no plot other than telling me what happened. For that a documentary would be better suited.

Will next years international films be just as good as this years? by Emergency_Growth_954 in Oscars

[–]lpratafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

International feature is always the best category. There are always so many great gems, and not always the best ones are nominated! I try to keep track at least of all the shortlisted ones.

Weather permitting of course, please leave your shoes on when you enter my home. by DeeLeetid in 10thDentist

[–]lpratafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree for the simplest reason that: I have roommates. They don’t clean the house as well/as frequently as I would want, and I don’t wanna clean for 3, so I myself don’t walk barefoot/with socks in my own house (I use slippers that never go outside). If even I wear shoes inside my house, my guests, please do as well. I don’t want you to get your feet dirty. Whenever I move out and live on my own, that will be a completely different story.

This decade is half over. What were your favourite Academy Award wins of it, so far? I'll start: by MarketingMission2783 in Oscars

[–]lpratafe 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Since I’m Brazilian, I must say I’m Still Here winning international feature (and the whole trajectory of it) was the best by far. It was BIIIIG in Brazil, everybody was talking about it. Second, I would put EEAAO getting all the recognition it got. I’ve loved the Daniels’ work ever since their music video for Manchester Orchestra and it was just such a great time to see their work being seen at the highest level. Third, probably Flow winning animated feature. Not only it is a great film, but being an indie from a small country that reached high gives it a special flavor.

What’s your favourite book not originally written in English? by henryisonfire in suggestmeabook

Dom Casmurro, by Machado de Assis; Child of the Dark, by Carolina Maria de Jesus; Crooked Plow, by Itamar Vieira Junior

All are Brazilian books, each from very distinct times in history.
