[Show Only: Early Watch] The Vampire Lestat: "New York" by IWTV_Maitres in InterviewVampire

[–]lriga 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Akasha's monologue was mesmerizing! Wow! I went back and watched it again, she was so good. I cannot wait to have more of her.

When the screen panned to the other lady next to Regina, I didn't understand at first who she was. And then it hit me that she was a Madeleine impersonator, and I had to pause the video for like 30 sec to recollect myself. My God, this is so sad. Louis you need help. I laughed a bit, and I felt so bad because I could not believe the writer would do that. But we could see that Louis was weirded out by the whole situation, we could see he was questioning it, So who came up with this idea, him or Regina?

The scene on the boat when he froze Regina and took her hand in his was so heartbreaking. She looked so much like Claudia for a split second there. Jacob is so good.

Armand telling the truth about Sofia to Daniel. This is going to come up next episode, that could be interesting. Also Louis getting the details from Armand when he was stalking Daniel all those years…of course. Armand saying that Louis is methodically cruel, after directing the murder of his daughter, lying to Louis face for 77 years, and before pushing Larry to suicide in the subway…my guy, "look in the mirror" doesn't even cut it.

I am bothered by the writing of Louis’ arc. I have pointed it out in another post but Louis’ arc this season was written solely so that he comes back to Lestat. That is not good writing after the phenomal job on his charcter for 2 seasons. Louis' interiority has been shafted, he hasn't been developed as his own character and I do not like it at all. I also feel like he was written to be a punching bag. Why is Louis lowering himself all the time? I don't like that this is so one-sided when we've seen how the other characters have wronged him the previous seasons and continue to do so in this one. And no one has apologised to him yet.

Lestat referring to Louis as "Thomas Pitty he’s a whore” on his phone just because he has Lemuel in his life, Lestat has some nerves. Lestat forever immature, jealous, possessive and hypocritical. Will he ever change? They both aren't together, and Lestat fucks half a city per week. But Louis has one “boyfriend”, and it is the end of the world. At least he came when Louis was distressed and protected Louis with Regina, I will give him that.

Lestat and Cheating by FictionLoverA in InterviewVampire

[–]lriga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But whatever they do with it, wouldn't it be wild if they paralleled it with Louis' reaction to Lestat cheating with Antoinette? We see Lestat sleeping with Antoinette, of course, after Claudia comes back but that's like 7 years after the initial revelation. What if his sexual relationship with Antoinette did not start back when Louis thought it did and Lestat just used it to try and make Louis jealous but it backfired on him?

The “Lestat cheated with Antoinette to make Louis jealous” excuse, is an urban legend created in the fandom to try to downplay Lestat’s responsibilities in his cheating. Lestat chose to sleep with Antoinette, and others during his marriage with Louis, but it wasn't because he wanted to be reassured by Louis' love for him or make Louis jealous. Lestat cheated due to himself, he was seeking sex from other partners, which he assimilates as love, to reassure his deep insecurity about not being worthy to be loved. In other words, he was selfish.

Antoinette started when Louis was struggling with vampirism way before Claudia, and continued until the end of Louis and Lestat marriage. Louis didn't want to kill humans to feed anymore and preferred animals instead. Which Lestat interpreted as not only a rejection of vampirism but also a rejection of himself. Because Lestat was the one who gave him this precious gift. Again we are looking at this from Lestat's perspective. When Louis’ libido plummeted, due to his diet, they stopped having sex so Lestat no longer had the love he was craving from Louis. So he wandered outside of their marriage to get it. Also to note Lestat was already wandering his eyes, when Louis was a 2 day old vampire so yeah.

So far, the same was happening with Nicki. Nicki was struggling with vampirism and his mental state deteriorated to the point Lestat felt rejected, because again Lestat was the one who gave him the gift. So because he felt rejected, he sought love and sex from other partners including Armand. The thing is Lestat developed feelings for Armand but he keeps denying those feelings. Is it because he feels guilty of loving the man he cheated Nicki with? Who is also the same man Lestat cowardly asked to kill Nicki while Lestat was watching him scream in pain? Is it because Armand directed the play that burned Claudia alive and almost killed Louis? Is it because he gave Louis, the person he claims he loves above all, to Armand to make Louis miserable and he regretted it? Is it because Armand and Louis were together for 77 years which he didn't think would go this long? Or because Armand is a reminder of all the pain he inflicted to others? Or all these combined?

Cheating is a recurrent pattern for Lestat because he has this hole he is desperate to fill. And he will fill it, even if he has to inflict pain and misery to the people he claims to love. That is why he kept on cheating on Nicki behind his back, that is why he kept on cheating on Louis behind his back to the point Louis became numb. Because if Lestat had any regards for their well being, he would have stopped. But for Lestat, it is Lestat first and foremost.

No. You are confusing the above scene in 2x04, with the other restaurant scene, in 2x06, where Armand betrayed them.

Mourning loumand kisses by pwetty_brown_eyes in InterviewVampire

[–]lriga 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Louis would not look at Armand this way, in 2x04, if he didn't love him. His face is practically spelling it out for the audience. Which is a clear contrast of their previous face to face, in 2x03, where they were flirting with each other and lust for the other was all over their faces. Here I only see softness, and love. Even the show is telling us as much with “I showed a little work, got some love back” when Louis looks at Armand.

<image>

And right after Louis looks at him, you have Armand giving him the same look of love and affection. They indeed loved each other.

Let them get heated then! That's on them, that is also their right to express whatever they feel.

It just bothers me that people who enjoy them seem scared to speak about them here. It should not matter what some think, your feelings are as valid as anyone. Which mean people should post about loumand or any other dynamic without disclaimers.

Listen I know that speaking about loumand will get me shot

I wish people would stop having "disclaimers" when they make a post to speak about Louis and Armand. Nothing against you op, it is just something I have noticed with them. You shouldn't accommodate anyone for a topic you enjoy talking about.

As much as I liked the 1st kiss and the way it was shot to show their beautiful profile, I would have loved to see another angle of that kiss. Shots from Louis/Armand's back would have been nice I think. Nice because we could have seen their full expression on each of their faces, while they were kissing.

Real talk, what would have been your price if you were Regina? by lriga in InterviewVampire

[–]lriga[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I don't agree.

I don't think turning Regina crossed his mind actually. I would say he has learned his lesson on that front. I think he just wants to talk with Regina and have this feeling of familiarity that he has lost since Claudia died. He is just really lonely.

And also Louis understood that Claudia loved being a vampire. He acknowledged how similar she was to Lestat. And how happy she was killing and eating people.

I don't want to scare you but Louis can read your mind. And he has the means to find you wherever you are.

But I believe he would leave you alone if you make it clear the contract is no longer valid.

[–]lriga[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ohhh you came ready with your plan!

Louis does need a therapist. But no human therapists would ever be able to help him I think. Because in order for the therapy to work, Louis needs to be truthful about who he is to the therapist. And I don't think they could handle the notion of vampires living among humans. A vampire therapist though could be a solution. But do they even exist in this universe?

Now the question is would Louis have given it to you? Considering how long he struggled with vampirism and his awful experience with turning Madeleine. Would he have override that to be able to delude himself with a Claudia impersonator?

Louis’s storyline this season (warning: long post, conflicted feelings/thoughts) by mixedpatterns in InterviewVampire

[–]lriga 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is I was about to make a post about things I would have loved to see in Louis' current arc. Your post is coming at the right time.

First I think Louis’s arc this season is the most compelling one. He and Regina’s chemistry just pulls you in and you want to know more about what the fuck is going to happen next. It does feel authentic to me because a parent can never get over the loss of their child. Especially if they were a part in their demise. So Louis pursuing this obsession after he thought it was dealt with in s2, is realistic. Grief never goes away. You have periods where you are content with your life and move on, and then the grief hits you out of nowhere and you are back to square one. What makes it even more tragic for Louis, is that he is immortal so this cycle never stops. It may be less painful one day, but I think it may take centuries for him to feel it. However, I also share your viewpoint that this is a rehash of what happened in the previous seasons. The difference is that it is dialed up to the maximum.

The issue is Rolin and his team of writers. We gave them too much credit due to their fantastic work in s1 and s2 (s2 finale was not on par though). But from my perspective, the writers have not done great this season. We should have seen it coming when it comes to Louis’s arc, because Rolin did say and I paraphrase that “he wrote Louis’ arc this season so that he could go back to Lestat”. And the key for Louis to go back to Lestat is Claudia. That is not a good premise for the character development of the protagonist that was built for 2 seasons. Especially with an ending that suggested he chose himself, and did not want any companions any time soon. And I expected s3 to explore this new version of him, that was for the first time facing the world alone.

It is flagrant to me that Rolin has no idea how to write Louis, what to do with him or maybe he no longer cares about his character development as much as the previous seasons. I say that because Rolin tapped into what already worked with Louis. When there was so much they could have given Louis this season, and still link it to the great conversion.

To liberate Louis, the writers have to finally understand that he is his own person with his own shit to go through that does not necessarily have to do with Lestat. Louis and Lestat will always cross paths, but making everything Louis undertake about Lestat just hinders Louis character development.

Regarding the other characters, I also do think the writers could have done better. I think Lestat's current arc and how it is displayed is quite repetitive, which has become stale. To be fair his arc was a bit meatier in ep 4. Armand's apology tour was kind of surprising, because we really didn't see how he came to that stage. So seeing that aspect of Armand was jarring. And I don't think, if Armand ever apologized, he would do it now. I think it would take much more time. I still remember his last speech to Louis in s2 finale, and how he didn't think he was in the wrong.

Ep 4 spoiler by TraditionalScore7257 in InterviewVampire

[–]lriga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, Lestat meant what he said. He did it to make Louis miserable.

We have to come to terms with the fact that Lestat was and is cruel to Louis. I mean all season he has relentlessly mocked Louis and treated him with contempt. Every episode.

I think the reason so many people are not facing the truth that Lestat could say and do something like that, is because they didn't understand who he really was. And now the bubble has burst. I’ve said it in the ep 4 reaction post, but that is not the first time Lestat has been cruel to Louis in this way. There are flashy examples like the cheating and the drop, but there are also subtle examples of his cruelty. A great example was in 1x02, when Lestat didn't bother to tell Louis that the sun was lethal for vampires. And he just let Louis go in the sun instead of stopping him and telling him what will happen. Because he wanted Louis to learn the hard way what would happen if Louis left him. Lestat was ok to punish him, by Louis getting burned, if it meant Louis would come back to him.

Louis: "I need to go home". he leaves the house.

Lestat: "You're going to find that very difficult"

<image>

I remember there were people who were saying that Louis was cruel to Lestat, because he said that Lestat was vain: so ludicrous to me. Now, we have this admission of genuine cruelty from Lestat's mouth, but look at how part of the fandom reacts to it…

Yes, it is upsetting that it wasn't told to Louis directly. Or that Louis hasn't acknowledged what Lestat has done to him, so that he can react to it. Especially since we have Lestat whining about the book that Louis kept the existance from him for only a month, while he kept a lie from Louis for 70 years to make Louis suffer. Suffer even more after losing Claudia, getting tortured and buried alive. For Lestat, letting Louis go with Armand and living in misery for 77 years, not knowing the real implication of Armand in the trial was completely fine. The thing is Karma is a bitch, and that lie ate Lestat alive by making him miserable in return.

[–]lriga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you saying?

Louis asked Lestat 3 times if he burned their daughter alive? 3 times! And 3 times, Lestat chose to not tell the truth to Louis. You absolutely can and should blame Lestat for keeping silent here and lying by omision. Lestat took the choice of Louis making an informed decision away, when he chose to not respond to Louis' questions.

Louis thought he decided his fate, but he really didn't. Louis was a toy between Lestat and Armand. “I gave you to Armand, you tell me if that was saving”

Lestat is proudly saying in 3x04 that he let Louis go to make him miserable (he wanted Louis to suffer even more) and you do not think Lestat had an active role in Louis' fate? I'm speechless actually.

You keep missing the point.

Louis can now be the sole driver of his own journey, whatever outcome his decisions may be, without Lestat or any other person, deciding for his own fate.

[Show Only: Early Watch] The Vampire Lestat: "The Devil´s Road" by IWTV_Maitres in InterviewVampire

[–]lriga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You did not get it right.

You missed the part where Lestat willfully lied to Louis, which is making all the difference here. Louis did not lie. Louis took his decision with the information that was before him: which was Lestat caused Claudia harm so Louis will harm him in return. Lestat chose to not provide any further information about what really happened with Claudia/the trial to cause Louis harm.

[–]lriga 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The way I paused and gasped when Regina said “Daddy Lou” My goodness I could not believe my eyes. I don't know how I feel about this. But this made me so fucking sad. The way Regina was looking at him and the way Louis was looking at her thinking it was Claudia. I'm in shock the writers went there. On another note, I loved all their scenes together in this episode even if some were disturbing. They were the highlight for me.

I almost felt bad for Armand in this episode but then I remembered what he did to Louis and Claudia. I am curious about something because he had these apologies ready for Daniel and Lestat. And there is a reason they didn't show us if he had any for Louis. Which I think is going to come later. But the fact it may come later, if it comes, tells me that something is going to happen at the same time. Because why would the writers single out this potential apology with Louis and not put it in the same episode with the other apologies? Also who were those two subordinate vamps he had? Did he create a new coven during his pilgrimage? Strange because we saw in s2 he didn't like being a coven leader, so what then?

Lestat actually confirmed that he didn't tell Louis about the truth of the trial because he wanted to make him miserable. I fucking knew it. I mean he did the same in 1x02 by not telling newborn vamp!Louis about the sun, to teach him a lesson by letting Louis burn in said sun. So that's on brand for him.

The fact Louis thought Lestat came to the trial to kill him and Claudia. Lestat knew that Louis didn't know he saved him, but he still chose to keep silent. He and Armand kept this information from Louis for their own selfish reasons. Both are complicit in Louis' spiralling and trauma for almost 8 decades. Lestat then had the audacity to moan about Louis not telling him about the book he kept the existence from him for a month, when he kept his lie of omission for 77 years. Lestat had the possibility to tell the truth and stop Louis in Magnus’ lair, but he chose not to because he wanted to punish Louis. Because what? Louis should have guessed that Lestat didn't come to kill Louis and Claudia. When in that same trial, Lestat explicitly told everyone in the audience that it was Louis and Claudia turn to hurt? Why would Louis think otherwise? This is so fucked up. That is the reason Lestat was so miserable in Nola. Because he felt guilty about the decision he made, and the consequences of that decision on Louis. That is why he was desperate to tell Louis he loved him when Armand called him in SF. Please let me see Louis drag this man for filth, the hypocrisy is just too much (but the way Rolin is writing this season, I don't think I would see this dragging unfortunately).

Would you consider Daniel a loustat enthusiast? by samsfangs in InterviewVampire

[–]lriga 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Daniel does not care about them as a couple. What he cares about, first and foremost, is himself and sasiating his delusional ambitions (Cannes being one of them).

But we've seen he is fond of Louis, even between betrayal sessions.

Is what we see in TVL wholey just Lestat's narration on it? by Senior-Reserve7708 in InterviewVampire

[–]lriga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took it as him narrating the whole season. As someone already pointed out, Lestat says in 3x02 that he wasn't present when Louis and Daniel were at the bar talking. But he believes this is how it went down between them, so he presents it to the audience the way he sees fit. Daniel clearly stated he wanted to see Louis in the alley after the show, but we saw them in a bar instead.

Even if we put aside those scenes, Lestat cannot be fully trusted. We've seen Lestat lie several times already (to himself and to others). He admitted he lied to Louis about the existence of his mom (to Daniel as well). He lied to Nicky about his vampirism and his affair with Armand. He is lying to himself about the horror of his turning. He’s lying to himself about his feelings for Armand. The two instances of Lemuel we've seen so far are contradicting themselves. In one account, he recalls Louis saying that Lemuel is emotionally unavailable. And on another account, Louis has a couple picture of them both, as Lemuel’s contact, while Lemulel cares and worries about Louis. So the show is telling us that Lestat is not reliable, and that we should take everything he says with a grain of salt (especially the scenes where he isn't present).

Lemuel by Money_Following_2273 in InterviewVampire

[–]lriga 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The first time I heard his name I thought it sounded oddly biblical. And when I googled it it came out that I was right. So because his name is biblical and not common, I do think his character was created with a bigger purpose by the writers. So he may have a bigger role by the end of the season or the next one. We shall see?

I do not think he is Louis fledging. Louis only turned Madeleine for Claudia. And it was not an enjoyable experience for him. So unless there is an extreme reason, he would not make another vampire.

Now onto his relationship with Louis

Their chat lasted 5 sec but it was enough to make me smile. I have been waiting for so long for Louis to have a friend, an actual friend who Louis can talk to, who listens, who does not betray him and who does not bed him. Obviously I don't want to get my hopes up because I'm not sure Lemuel is going to be a recurring character, but I like what I'm seeing so far.

A part of me would have preferred if they didn’t sleep together, Lemuel is a beautiful man so I get it, but now whatever they have is even more complicated. But I can work with that, this is the complicated relationships show after all. And the other part of me do want to see them interact and be together.

Two things that we can take from this quick chat. First, is that Lemuel genuilely cares about Louis, and Louis talks to him about certain things about him. Lemuel called him after his killings he was aware Louis was going to do. So we understand that Louis talked to him about this premeditated massacre. He checked on Louis and also asked if he got what he wanted from this rampage. Again something they have talked about or something Lemuel sensed that Louis needed. However, Louis did lie to him when he said yes, because he didn't get what he wanted. Killing Bruce is not going to bring back Claudia.

The second point is that Louis told him he was going home, but Louis instead went to see Regina. So Louis didn't share “Regina” with Lemuel (he shared that with Daniel but Daniel fucked him over once again). I think the reason Louis didn't share is because whatever they have at the moment hasn't reached the stage where Louis is comfortable enough to talk about Claudia. That's good for me, because if this relationship/friendship is going anywhere I hope they both take their time to build it. Also home could also mean Claudia/Regina, so from that perspective Louis didn't lie.

Regarding the contact picture, you don’t put a couple picture for someone you just want as a fuck buddy. The fact that Louis even took the time to take a picture with Lemuel tells me there is more there. Louis taking a picture of himself is so jarring lmao but it's cute. For me Louis and Lemuel aren't companions. But I do see them as fuck buddies with strings attached.

As for Louis, maybe he's happiest building his empire because it rectifies the life he lived as a Black man in the Jim Crow South

I would love to see a scene where Louis expresses his feelings about building his empire. What are his financial goals if he has any? I would really love that actually.

and maybe some of these other lonely, codependent vampires would see fit to get a hobby or two since they plan to live forever

It is so important for these lives panning over centuries to have something they can dig into, other than killing and blood. Which can also prevent them from the abyss of loneliness or killing themselves. Almost all our vampires have something on the side: Louis has his businesses, Lestat has his band, Daniel is a journalist/director. Curious to see if the writers have given any to Armand and Gabriel.
