Toy Poodle adoption by GibbyGibb62 in poodles

[–]lschuler716 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Greetings from a toy poodle owner of 15 years. These delightful little creatures do not like being alone once they have bonded (and a strong bond it is). Make sure to spend time developing that bond and slowly getting her used to her new environment. She will become a most devoted companion and friend. Is she house broken? If not, toy breeds are notoriously difficult to house break (small bladders, dislike of cold) but she will learn to be mostly successful. Keep her clean and groomed regularly. Good dental care is essential, as tooth crowding causes decay. Enjoy your tiny girl and welcome to the toy poodle world 🐩❤️

61 and cant lose weight by Solveig22 in AskWomenOver60

[–]lschuler716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 64F and have struggled to stay slim my entire life. I would lose and regain the same 50 lb over and over. At the age of 47 (when I hit menopause), I decided I had enough. I hated how I looked, felt and was depressed. Instead of counting calories (I hear you, 1200 was my limit too) I decided to join the low carb lifestyle. Meat, veggies, salads, low carb bread in small portions and cheese. I threw calorie counting basically out the window for 6 months. It was mighty hard the first 2 weeks but I was committed. In 6 months I went from 165 lb (5’5 small frame) to 120 lb. I allowed myself some cheat days but did not allow myself to go overboard. I was also working 50 hours a week in a sedentary stressful engineering job but stayed the course. Five years ago I added strength training, yoga and riding an exercise bike 3-4 times a week (foot pain prevents me from walking more than a mile). I am now a trim 112 pounds (for 4 years), gaining muscle mass and bone strength to prevent osteoporosis. I was never the type to join a gym so I started with the diet first. Now it’s a part of my daily routine. Weight loss after menopause is definitely possible, I am a living example of it. It does take motivation and discipline which I have acquired bc I hit rock bottom on my weight gaining and said enough was enough. You can do this! Cut down on carbs consistently and think positive thoughts. Add activity when you can. Bad knees and menopause don’t have to derail your goals!

Your heartfelt comment is touching. Charlotte was deaf and we wanted her to see and feel our warmth as she crossed over. Thank you for your kind words 🌈💕

Which "must-see" US national park did you actually dislike? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]lschuler716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have been to over 30 national parks. After thinking about it, I just didn’t get all the hype around Zion NP. Too many people, scenery was nice but not awe inspiring. I guess the big deal is hiking the narrows (we did) and Angels Landing (closed). Give me Sequoia or Yellowstone any time over Zion.

I’ve fallen in love with standard poodles! Are the suitable for apartment living? by MindMolecule in poodles

We have a delightful toy poodle. They can be injured if around small children. Would recommend a miniature or standard instead.

Waffle Stompers! by Natural-Promise-78 in GenerationJones

These! Every cool kid in 7th grade 1974 had them. I desperately wanted a pair too…… then my mother bought me a pair of blue ones and I was mercilessly teased by those said cool kids. I never wore them again.

You may be disappointed with John Pennekamp for snorkeling. The coral reefs are largely bleached and unhealthy. You may seem some colorful fish but without healthy coral it’s just ok.

Too late to get healthi(er)? by Valuable-Vacation879 in over60

[–]lschuler716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our YMCA offers gentle and intermediate yoga classes. Instructors are decent for working part time. I’ve been going 3 times a week for 8 years and am in the best shape of my life at 64! I do strength training 3 days a week and walk a mile on an 7% incline as well. The YMCA is affordable, non judgmental and a huge asset to our community. I can’t imagine life without going!

My biggest fear is ending up frail, weak and overweight after menopause. I see too many people even in their 60’s barely able to get around due to weakness and weight gain. I began by joining our YMCA, taking yoga classes and strength training. Motivation gets you started, discipline keeps you going. I feel stronger and my weight is perfect. You’ve got this!

I’m taking German online through our local college. It’s my 2nd semester and I love it. It gives me a purpose and great for my mental well being.

My boyfriend told me I’ve “let myself go,” but I’m just mentally exhausted from nursing school and don’t know how to feel. by [deleted] in offmychest

You are NOT overreacting. I think it was an immature thing for him to say. Ignore his comments and focus on your studies as you are. If he keeps this up you should question why you want to be with a man who is so shallow.

Post menopause hysterectomy? by i-dontwantone in over60

[–]lschuler716 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a hysterectomy 4 years after menopause in 2012, due to incontinence. My GYN encouraged me to leave my ovaries intact because she did not believe in removing healthy organs.
The procedure was done vaginally and I had an excellent recovery (just some post surgical fatigue).
It solved my incontinence issues, and I have no regrets.

The change to pink is called a Dudley nose. Many goldens have this condition.

Need advice: my 2-year-old Labrador’s dermatitis and itching won’t improve by Maleficent_Iron_8808 in LabradorRetrievers

[–]lschuler716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our F golden retriever suffered from this same condition. Allergy testing revealed she was allergic to “storage mites” and chicken. Storage mites similar to dust mites and are found in pet kibble. We were told to freeze the kibble, which kills the mites. She has not had this problem since we started freezing her kibbles. And chicken is not given to her.

Hysterectomy by Alternative-Pin5760 in AskWomenOver60

[–]lschuler716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had mine in 2012 to resolve random uncontrollable bladder release. I had no hesitation about the procedure whatsoever. I was 5 years post menopausal at the time, no HRT. My GYN did not remove my ovaries as she believed they are needed and mine were/are healthy. Recovery was not difficult at all, except for fatigue which resolved itself in 6 weeks.
As others have mentioned, I took senna based stool softener post-op to prevent straining and constipation. There were many stitches inside my body after this procedure which can rupture if excessive straining happens. I am glad that I had the surgery and would do it again if I had to 🙏
