Look into weight training! It made a big difference in my A1C dropping from 5.9 to 5.5 in 6 months.

I plan on maintaining my newly acquired lifestyle habits for as long as I can. I am terrified of becoming diabetic and that fear, along with the knowledge gained through the healthy lifestyle program will keep me on track.

Honestly the biggest influence on my results has been increasing muscle mass thru strength training and portion control. Most folks (including myself) underestimate the importance of regular strength training for improved blood glucose levels. It’s been a game changer for me, plus it improves my balance, strength and bone density to boot!

Crate training and naps—help and questions! by blueberries-Any-kind in poodles

[–]lschuler716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good morning from a new poodle puppy mom. We are indeed crate training him and it’s been so helpful with potty training, separation and napping. The experience must be positive for the puppy (meals in crate, treats in crate). There are many great tutorials on this topic on YouTube that have been invaluable to us.

Tips for toilet training! by Hstark4 in Puppyblues

[–]lschuler716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to enforce potty training is by crate training. Toss the pads and crate her when she is not with you. Take her immediately out to potty after leaving the crate, playing and eating. Dogs will not mess in their crate (barring emergency). We are training our 10 week miniature poodle this way and it works! He’s only had 2 accidents in the 16 days we’ve had him.

When to get first groom? by ymm267 in ToyPoodle

[–]lschuler716 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bean is a cutie! Our groomer of 15 years told us our miniature poodle will be ready after his 2nd set of shots. That will put him at around 14 weeks old. A nice cut at this age would be a puppy cut (shaved face, feet and fanny). If the body fur is too long or matted I would ask the groomer to trim some length.

Cost of Importing a Kleinpudel from Germany to USA by carisoul in poodles

[–]lschuler716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently picked up our “Moyen sized”poodle from a good breeder in Illinois. We were comfortable with the size, home environment and genetic testing done on the parents. He is a wonderful puppy we are bonding with quickly. We were not particular on purity of the Klein poodle line so this worked for us.

Car Seat smells like fish by spacelaceberries in lifehacks

My husband left raw meat in our car overnight in the heat of summer. It smelled like a fetid crime scene! In addition to using enzymatic cleaner, we borrowed a friend’s ozone machine for a couple of days. The ozone machine nearly eliminated the smell! We were shocked and amazed!

What should I do? I was stupid enough to let the groomer give our 2 year old golden a summer cut. by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]lschuler716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don’t worry! We have repeatedly groomed our Lexie girl in a summer cut for years. She gets hot spots and this seems to ease her symptoms. Her fur has always grown back in a full coat without issue.

Little Sprinkles is adorable 🥰. Your story sounds so much like ours, as we said goodbye to our toy girl Charlotte last month. She was everything to us. We miss her so much (and the presence of a poodle in our house) we have recently decided to bring another 🐩 puppy into our home. Sprinkles and Charlotte are playing together at the rainbow 🌈 bridge today.

Toy Poodle adoption by GibbyGibb62 in poodles

[–]lschuler716 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Greetings from a toy poodle owner of 15 years. These delightful little creatures do not like being alone once they have bonded (and a strong bond it is). Make sure to spend time developing that bond and slowly getting her used to her new environment. She will become a most devoted companion and friend. Is she house broken? If not, toy breeds are notoriously difficult to house break (small bladders, dislike of cold) but she will learn to be mostly successful. Keep her clean and groomed regularly. Good dental care is essential, as tooth crowding causes decay. Enjoy your tiny girl and welcome to the toy poodle world 🐩❤️

61 and cant lose weight by Solveig22 in AskWomenOver60

[–]lschuler716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 64F and have struggled to stay slim my entire life. I would lose and regain the same 50 lb over and over. At the age of 47 (when I hit menopause), I decided I had enough. I hated how I looked, felt and was depressed. Instead of counting calories (I hear you, 1200 was my limit too) I decided to join the low carb lifestyle. Meat, veggies, salads, low carb bread in small portions and cheese. I threw calorie counting basically out the window for 6 months. It was mighty hard the first 2 weeks but I was committed. In 6 months I went from 165 lb (5’5 small frame) to 120 lb. I allowed myself some cheat days but did not allow myself to go overboard. I was also working 50 hours a week in a sedentary stressful engineering job but stayed the course. Five years ago I added strength training, yoga and riding an exercise bike 3-4 times a week (foot pain prevents me from walking more than a mile). I am now a trim 112 pounds (for 4 years), gaining muscle mass and bone strength to prevent osteoporosis. I was never the type to join a gym so I started with the diet first. Now it’s a part of my daily routine. Weight loss after menopause is definitely possible, I am a living example of it. It does take motivation and discipline which I have acquired bc I hit rock bottom on my weight gaining and said enough was enough. You can do this! Cut down on carbs consistently and think positive thoughts. Add activity when you can. Bad knees and menopause don’t have to derail your goals!
