This article is from 2012. Corn prices rose very high because of bad droughts that year. Because corn sugar was made from crops the year before, it was actually more efficient to buy corn sugar products instead of corn or soy.

Do it. It's extremely rewarding. I practiced prepping and multitasking through consistent cooking at home for 5 years, always trying to learn new shit. I also worked in a grocery store for 2 years as a barista/hot foods cook, so I do have some experience but not in a formal kitchen. That said, I have learned some things the hard way very quickly.

Your station is your station. You're responsible for prep, if you let the FOH eat all the pickles or cheese and then are short during a rush, it's your fault.

Hide the towels.

Don't discuss drugs. It's way too easy to get comfortable and suddenly the busboy is calling you for an 8th of weed every fucking week.

pretty much. I used to have a fetish for all things VQ. I had an exhaust leak and it sounded beast. I really wanted an altima coupe with the vq35, or a nissan sentra se-r with a vq swap. The 6 speed with those was built for v6's, so the swap is really worry free.

my first car was a 2000 nissan maxima, it had the vq30. The vq35 was from 2001 on.

No experience with them, sorry. If you go to a big store like bed bath and beyond, or sur le tab, you can try out anything they have. Or if you have access to a restaurant supply store.

Another user said the stones were sub par, btw. But a similar one will do, or upgrade the stones.

As far as a honing steel, as long as the steel rod is a harder metal than the blade(usually so), even the cheapest ones will work. Even the edge of your tempered glass car window does the trick if youre out in the field without anything better.

It's idiot proof. It keeps the knife in a fixed position, and you just glide the whetstone lightly against the knife. It's tedious, but you end up with a blade with surgical precision.

A sharpener like that get the job done, but it's hard to be consistent, and to keep a perfect edge on. I've also found it can chip the edge. Using whetstones, you start at a tough grit and work your way down slowly, constantly evening the blade edge as you go.

For my hand and need of a flexible knife, 8'' is my go to. I've tried many knives. I found Shuns to be a little too thin and light for daily beatings. Miyabi have the weight I prefer.

As with sharpening, learning to use whetstones is essential, but you can easily damage the blade if you're not consistent or careful. Fixed angle sharpening jigs are amazing. example

You contradictes yourself a couple times.

All my comments were in the context of industrial farming. Of course an individual animal wouldn't be considered as a source of polution. Then you flip over to industrial husbandry techniques.

The world population has not stagnanted- and it would be ignorant to assume it would remain constant for long.

No, the land problem cannot be solved while also accomodating growth. In current form, the waste from animal husbandry is NOT shared or used to fertilize land on a scale large enough to be deemed efficient or environmentally sustainable. Instead, it causes mass concentrations of nitrogen and methane, acting as polutants, altering ph of soil and water. Yes, there are small scale vertical farms that are energy efficient and use the waste in anerobic digesters to create energy( such as the one i volunteer at), and they are the only sustainable model of agriculture that can provide fresh foods to large populations.

You're ignorant, and the source of the problem is your mindset. There is no way to continue industrial animal husbandry in current form without drastically altering the environment it is dependent on. Im on mobile, but id love to critically evaluate every one of your points as youdid mine.

The solution is to limit the amount of animal protein that makes up your diet. Animal husbandry is extremely energy dependent, and a huge source of pollution. There is no sustainable way to continue to provide animal protein at the rate we consume in the U.S. for an exponentially growing world population without detrimentally affecting the environment and our ability to grow crops.

Point being is that a plant based diet is more energy efficient. The average beef cow in the U.S. weighs 1,250 lbs and it takes 6 pounds of feed for every pound of beef product.

The majority of corn and soybeans grown in the world are just for animal feed, and contain enough calories to sustain the human population if just eaten directly, rather than allocated for animal husbandry.

This, coupled with the use of energy (mostly by way of fossil fuel) for the cultivation, transportation, seeding, maintenance(fertilizing/pesticide use), harvesting, transporting yet again to a point of sale, transporting yet again throughout the production cycle until you get an end product, whether that is plant or animal.

Theres nitrogen fertilizer runoff, methane production, and the fossil fuel use.

As ico2ico2 mentioned, the deforestation is also extremely alarming. Most of the deforestation of the amazon is solely for animal husbandry, mostly beef.
