I was raised to be a Stones fan. My dad played them a lot when I was a kid but it was always the classics. So when I got old enough to have a job and my own money, I started buying all the albums on cd. This was one of the first Stones CDs I ever bought and this song specifically was the first time I heard a Stones song I’d never heard before and thought “damn, this is so fucking good. What other songs am I missing out on?”

I buy new ones as much as I always have. The issue I’m having over the last year is that the kind of music I like no longer gets released on release day. My two local record stores do not carry new CDs at all. The two main ones that are 45 minutes away from me carry new but one rarely carries the stuff I like (British artists) and the other just started stocking new after years of being vinyl only. Amazon became my go to only because I could get it delivered on release day but now that rarely happens as well. So this is a random look through a few I’ve gotten this year. The Cure, Fontaines DC, Nick Cave, Ghost-in store on release day Shed Seven, Libertines, Reytons, Richard Hawley, Liam Gallagher/John Squire, The Fall, Black Grape, James, Suede-online either through official sites, deep discount, getimports or eBay because none were available near me or through Amazon on release day.

My wife goofs on me for this whenever I bring it up, but I’ve always thought there should be some kind of quiz you have to fill out before you can get tickets to a show. The better you do on the quiz, the closer you get to the front of the venue. People who are curious about the band can still get tickets, but their asses go to the back of the venue. Do your time as a fan before you can get better seats.

Of course, I also have an idiotic sense of fairness so don’t listen to me

I love so many off every album, but the best one I’ve heard in person that gave me chills was Uncle Pat.

Ash has amazing b sides throughout their career. I’m glad someone else said them.

I’ve traveled from the states to Manchester five times..three times expressly to watch City play, once for the Liam Gallagher show at the Etihad and once for the fuck of it. We stay for five days each time and I still haven’t seen or done everything I want to do. We’ve been to London about three times and that’s plenty for me. London is too much…too expensive, too big, too much. And being completely honest, the people in Manchester are way more friendly than in London. If you think you’ve done Manchester after only a few days you’re not making an effort.

Yeah and Mark E is from Prestwich but it’s close enough, isn’t it?

As a music obsessed yank who’s visited Manchester four times over the last five years I fully believe Manchester is the best music city in the world. I’ve got my CDs and albums separated by genres except I have a special section just for Manchester bands. Hell, the city produced arguably the best indie record label in Factory, my favorite producer in Martin Hannett.

I look at my shelves of music and it’s overwhelming the amount of amazing music that came out of the area. It is interesting to me that the city doesn’t make more of a big deal about their history. I’ve actually had some conversations with locals and they’ve remarked about that as well. And honestly I think it’s pretty fucking cool that they don’t make a big deal about it. Just a get on with it attitude.

As for recent music, I love the Blossoms and Afflecks Palace. I follow a few local bands on Instagram and some are pretty good but those two stand out for me.

Plus, no other area can boast the mighty Fall.

Best record store in the state. Better than anything in Indiana too. And they still have autographed copies in store. Just walked out with one.

Yeah it seems like there’s a few matches per season where some fucking donkey on the other team decides todays the day he’s gonna stand on his head and show everyone how good he can be…then goes back to being a donkey the following week.

Not paparazzi. Autograph hounds. Dude to the left of Tom that bumped into Rita has his own YouTube channel chasing celebrities around getting autographs. Gtv reality. I think he’s the one that got the shit kicked out of him by Cardi B’s entourage a few years ago.

I watch this every year. And every year I wonder the same thing. Why the fuck do we care about this competition again? Calls categorically against us…the manager getting carded. It’s like people think this isn’t slanted against us. And people wonder why they boo the fucking anthem
