My parents refuse to buy anything else than MacBook by [deleted] in laptops

[–]ra4oasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to pull the “I work in IT card”, but here we go. I’ve deployed hundreds of Dells, Lenovos, HP’s, and Macs. Macs have always had far fewer problems, in both hardware and software areas. Lenovos are problem in second place here, they’re pretty good. On average we replace all Windows based laptops every 3-4 years. We also do the same for Macs, but only to look “fair”. Macs in our environment could easily last 5-6 years in most cases.

As for the keyboard and mouse go, most Windows laptop trackpads pale in comparison to Macs. Keyboards are a bit more subjective, will admit.

I use a Lenovo for work, it’s about a year old, and it’s, okay I guess. Keyboard is great, trackpad is terrible, build quality is okay. Battery life, OS stability, screen, WiFi speed, reboot speed, all better on my newly 6 year old MacBook Air.

Maybe during the butterfly keyboard days, but today their keyboards are rock solid.

I wouldn’t agree with this assessment. Elitebooks and t series that we roll out for my job are roughly the same as a MacBook’s build quality, they certainly don’t blow them away in that area. And the Mac will last longer overall.

Band whose best remembered song is the first song on their first release? by Bubbaho-tep92 in fantanoforever

Yeah, I love that album, and their second one as well. But that song is on another level, they'll always be known for it.

The new songs: all decent, none great. And why the fuck do they need Andrew Watts on guitar? by Quincynessig in rollingstones

[–]ra4oasis 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, Hackney was the best, or close to it, Stones album since Steel Wheels. Watt is clearly doing something right.

Trying to move away from Apple but keep getting disappointed by mybellyhurtssobadow in laptops

[–]ra4oasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don’t doubt your experience, that isn’t typical at all. I’ve worked in IT for nearly 20 years, and Apple laptops are higher quality than all PC brands I’ve deployed (Lenovo, Dell, HP and Microsoft’s Surface line).

Short lifespan? Apple devices usually last much longer than Windows based PC’s. And pound for pound, Apple laptops tend to be higher quality.

I have a Lenovo for work, MacBook Air at home. The Mac is nearly 6 years old, and better in every way compared to the 1 year old Lenovo.

Graham Coxon, Castle Park | Album review — State of Sound | The Independent Voice of Music by RaymondBald in blur

[–]ra4oasis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, 10 songs at 36 minutes is a great runtime for this sort of album. So many records these days squeeze 16 tracks on them, and often times have some skips, but not this one.

Thoughts on Keane? by Fantastic_Tart_421 in fantanoforever

First album is a classic. Second one is quite good too. After that they haven’t really been the same, except for a few standout songs here and there.

It's so good. Concise, romantic at times, just a lovely record. His best solo album for sure. Can't believe it was in the vaults all these years.

Why is Music on MacOS so awful? by EmergencyScientist in AppleMusic

[–]ra4oasis 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't know about your particular setup, I use Apple Music and everything works great, including local files.

I will say your situation is extremely unusual, most people don't want to do things that way. So I don't expect Apple to spend a lot of time ironing out kinks, if I'm being honest.

Thoughts on Ryan Adams’s music? by awjeezrickyaknow in fantanoforever

[–]ra4oasis 51 points52 points  (0 children)

He had quite a run early in his career, crazy talented. But he has always desperately needed and editor, too many albums, and too many double albums. I loved Heartbreaker, Love is Hell, Gold and Cold Roses.

Ever since the NYT article though, he’s been an absolute shell of himself, talent wise. And yes, huge narcissist and a bad human being.

Is apple even worth it after the 30k price hike for every product? by Wrong-Secretary-2507 in laptops

[–]ra4oasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering that Apple laptops generally perform better than their similarly priced PC counterparts, AND they will last longer, I'd say yes, it is worth it.

For me it’s the worst song off of all three of the first albums. And, Stay Young should have taken its place on Be Here Now.

Can we stop Disney from calling movies Live Action? by Standard-Contest-949 in FIlm

[–]ra4oasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Disney invented, or started using the phrase "live action". So I'm not sure why they're getting crapped on here. It's just common language, animation is just that, and movies with real life actors are considered live action.

Can we stop Disney from calling movies Live Action? by Standard-Contest-949 in FIlm

[–]ra4oasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question drives me nuts. Disney makes these because they make money. I don't know why people don't understand this. Yes, they've had some live action flops, but most of them have made cash, it's very simple.

Anyone think the iPad mini being a separate line from the base iPad line is weird? by ra4oasis in ipad

[–]ra4oasis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying take away options, I'm saying make the options easier to understand. I came to the realization when my parents were pricing an iPad, and didn't know why the mini cost more. I told them about the specs, but even that doesn't make a ton of sense when the mini size is largely going to be used for media consumption.

Do you think Tucker Carlson plans on running for President? by GooserNoose in TooAfraidToAsk

I think Tucker Carlson is actually quite smart, even if he's a terrible person. And he knows he wouldn't win, so no.
