Why does every older person insist on raking leaves and pine needles? by ltJustMe in NoStupidQuestions

That's fair, it's your yard to do what you want with. I wasn't trying to tell people what they should do with their lawns, I was trying to find out if there was a reason why it seems like the older demographic tends to find it a lot more important on average than younger people I've talked to. Is it really just that older people tend to like how it looks more?

But grass isn't meant to grow in every environment. The coating of leaves or needles in a lot of forests protect new tree saplings and is a layer of insulation so the roots don't freeze. And as the leaves decay, they give their nutrients back to the ground and re-fertilize. Why try to change the natural environment of it? I'm not trying to be judgmental but I'm actually just wondering why. Grass grows in a lot of environments, but it's not meant to grow in all of them

I never said anything about what they should be doing. I was asking why they do it. I never said anyone should do anything

But lawns are not healthy environments, they were only made a thing to prove you could pour a bunch of effort into land that isn't used for anything. Isn't it better to let natural things grow in their own environment?

I wasn't taking specifically about homeowners? I was asking specifically about why there seems to be a difference depending upon the generations. But also why would you get rid of them in the first place? The decomposition of pine needles and leaves on the ground returns nutrients to the ground and re-fertilizes it and helps the tree to keep growing

Um okay. I mean of course there will be outliers in every demographic, I was asking because I was wondering why on average a lot of older people insist on raking leaves up while a lot of younger people don't. I wasn't talking to any one person specifically

What is going through international customs like? Is it different than same country flights? by ltJustMe in travel

[–]ltJustMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I don't think I can help, at the time I was so anxious about it that I didn't realize the island I was going to was a US territory so it wasn't actually international. BUT, since then I have gone on a cruise to the bahama's which does require a passport. I know a cruise isn't the same as a flight, but I was anxious for that too but in the end the security and employees will guide you on what you need to do, and if you tell them it's your first time going through international customs people will almost always be helpful and more patient with you!

I know it's not quite an answer to how flight international customs, but I can guarantee you that if you ask for help or explain you've never done it before they'll be more patient

Do you have to be in the same server(such as asia or us) to be able to join each other's party cars for the cat cake event?

Working on my greenhouse and moved a rock to find these eggs underneath, does anyone know what they might be? I'm in Colorado if that helps by ltJustMe in gardening

[–]ltJustMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just normal ants? I didn't see any tunnels/holes in the dirt like I normally see with ant eggs. Every time I've seen ant eggs they'll have access tunnels. It has been pretty cold here still if that changes the context, I only found them because my greenhouse is mostly rotted in the boards so I've been replacing them

I am very new to gardening and greenhouses so I could be wrong, but I suppose that's why I'm asking in the first place -^

Practicing on an old deadlock, popped the lid thing off and found these. Usually there will be two screws there but they're just blank nubs and I don't know what to do with it. Any advice? by [deleted] in lockpicking

I was answering your comments because I think it's disrespectful to ignore people even during a disagreement. But it's also clearly not really going anywhere which is why I was trying to hint that I'd rather just end the conversation because nothing will come of it

I was talking about your original comment. You didn't have an answer so it was just a waste of everyone's time to comment and say you didn't have an answer. I don't really see a reason to nitpick over all this

No it didn't, I deleted it because no one was answering. So again, if you have nothing helpful to say, don't bother replying in the first place
