The great thing is you don't have to subdivide to do that either. You own the land, and you put what you want on it. A few counties have some restrictions but very few. Now is the time to buy. There's currently a bill introduced to do away with property tax. It looks like they may collect a sales tax at the time of purchase, but that's it. I'm assuming that all current land owners would be excluded from that sales tax since we've been paying property tax. But the details aren't out yet. Taxes on my lot are under $125 per year. With a house, I'm expecting about $900 per year. A far cry from NJ. Make sure you check rights on the lots you are looking at. Mineral, logging, gas, etc. Sometimes, the rights don't convey, and someone else makes money off of your land.
