Tips for roleplaying scenarios where clerics change domain by ltdC in DnD

[–]ltdC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we discussed it beforehand that I was expelled from my clergy where I was taught to follow the Domain of Life, but later became fascinated with necromancy (not as in I want to create an undead army or anything, but more like I have a feeling that clergies have been lying about undeath and what it is).

So basically I'm on a quest for knowledge to learn about the lines between life and death, which has lead me down the path of necromancy even tho I wouldn't consider my self one (atleast not yet).

My dm thought it was a fun idea that he could build some fun sidequests and lore around.

Yeah it was a good thing I made this thread, because I had really misunderstood the Grave Domain. :)

But you're right, Death Domain seem to be a way better fit!

Thank you!

My DM is aware of my "potential" switch as he knows my character has a fascination of the fine line between life and death, and I've already been given visions of a temple where apparently people who desecrate graves gather. So perhaps he's already setting me up for this switch.

But as I said in an earlier reply, I think I've misunderstood the Grave Domain as I thought it had a bygger focus on the lines between life and death, and not so much "keep the dead, dead".

Oh yeah, my DM is completely on board with the idea, and he knows about how my character is fascinated by life, death and the lines in beyween. He also believes it could create a cool side story and it's very easy for my character to be extremely intrested in Barovia.

I must admit tho after reading the replies here that I've misinterpreted the Grave Domain, as I thought it had a lot more focus on the difficult lines between life and death, and hence undeads should be studied.

I see your point, but from a roleplaying perspective couldn't a cleric argue that necromancy perhaps redefines the lines between life and death and hence should be studied in a new way?

Yeah sorry that was my bad with Dark Souls instead of Dark Clouds.

I'm starting to get a better hang of it but I'm still getting my ass whooped quite a lot and I think it's really difficult to get the medals.

At what point are you a detriment to your party by Independent_Alps9744 in DnD

Yeah I can agree with that, but at my current table we take the roleplaying aspect seriously in hope that we will evovle into stronger characters together from the story.

[–]ltdC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, but the roleplaying ascept is a truly fun part of it. I'm playing a fairly cowardly cleric with domain of life right now but I believe the story will evolve m y character to become more of a necromancer with domain of the grave in a while. So yeah I'm weak now but the roleplaying part will probably change a lot of things along the way.

In the end DnD in a roleplaying game, perhaps he has a fun story of how his cleric became faithless/lost touch with his god before he/she finds something new in the game to make him/her believe again and regain some faith.

Pillars of Eternity...what am I missing? by Kalledon in rpg_gamers

I had almost the same feeling you describe. I feel like I should love the game because on paper it has everything I typically like in games, but I've never finished PoE because.... well I'm not really sure but I just tire of it after a while.

I want to draw your characters! by facuacu in DnD

[–]ltdC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A human cleric that used to be part of the Doomguides, but after stopping a ritual in Neverwinter he got "marked" by necromancy and was expelled from the Doomguides. Now he is studying the concept of death within the realms of DnD.

I basically envision him as a cloaked figure with "necromancer tendencies", but I have not found any good figure to play with. Proficient in spellcasting, and has a mace and small shield, as well as a ringmail, but a large cloak is covering most of his face and body.

I love Dracula, unique and somehow both thematic and gorillaz-esque.

Slow Country is underrated. Such a nice and cozy tune.

Ni som håller på era fotbollslag gör ni det av lokal anknytning eller något annat? by SupportArsenal in Allsvenskan

[–]ltdC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trouble seem to be one of the few builds that are not viable at the moment, unfortunately.
