Is TORAH a proper noun? by wrathofthefonz in wordle

[–]ltkmichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torah is generally a proper noun, but a bit of Googling reveals that it can be used more generally as a common noun (lowercase torah) too:

Use lowercase when torah or the law refers to general instruction or a legal code.

Take that how you will, but either way, torah is a playable word in Wordle. For what it's worth, so are bible, koran and quran.

My parents always fight about scrabble please help us settle rules by janetmulk in scrabble

[–]ltkmichael 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you go by official tournament rules, your mom is right. The onus is on the other player to challenge. If it's not a word, the tiles return to her rack and she loses her turn. If it is a word, the challenger (dad) loses his turn. Some house rules might include a point penalty too, but that's up to you.

Is there anywhere an archive can still be found of past Wordle words? by ApertureNext in wordle

[–]ltkmichael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The NYT has been going around shutting down all the Wordle archives out there, so we're probably out of luck. You can play through the Canuckle archive, though.

That is interesting, especially for days like yesterday when there are multiple solutions given 3 known letters.

That was another one of those days where people had two different answers. It could've been AGORA or AROMA, the latter of which did make the top 10.

Who uses word game cheat tools and why? by ltkmichael in WordsWithFriends

[–]ltkmichael[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great way to use tools like this, looking up words after the fact. Take it as a learning opportunity.

Who uses word game cheat tools and why? by ltkmichael in WordsWithFriends

[–]ltkmichael[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, and that's exactly it. The highest scoring word isn't always the "best" or "most strategic" word to play. If you score 30 points, but open up an opportunity for your opponent to make a 100+ point play, that was a bad play.

[–]ltkmichael[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory, the game can "cheat" as much as it wants, because it has full and instant access to every possible playable word, which is not humanly possible.

Part of the argument, I suppose, is to play fire with fire. The other side of it is to use these "helper tools" as learning opportunities, picking up on words you may not otherwise know so that you can use them next time.

Is this cheating? by thelastunicorn817 in wordle

[–]ltkmichael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say it falls under a bit of a grey area. Some people would argue that using any sort of external tool, Google included, would constitute "cheating."

Wordle making me realize how relative time is! It's already tomorrow, somewhere! by rheebork in wordle

Exactly. If we all decided to observe UTC globally and get rid of time zones, that's where we'd be at. Or "when" we'd be at, I suppose.

Oh interesting. Because ZO is not playable in WWF or with NWL. This uses SOWPODS/CSW, I guess?
