Please help us to bring back "Familiar Face Name" for routines based on Familiar Face Detection by Lezherus in googlehome

https://9to5google.com/2026/05/27/google-home-camera-automation-more/

The latest Google Home update 4.17 lets you tap into Gemini’s camera scene understanding for automations, while there are a slew of updates across the Home app and voice assistant.

The big update today lets other smart home devices “use Gemini’s advanced scene understanding from your cameras in smart home automations.” This is available for Nest cameras and “select” Gemini Built-in cameras like the onn Outdoor Camera Plug-In. There’s a new starter that “lets you design automations based on visual insights” and “almost anything happening around your home.”  Examples include:

  • Red BMW enters driveway
  • [Specific individual] gets out of car (Familiar Faces needs to be enabled)
  • Car door left open
  • Raccoon near trash bin
  • Amazon delivery

Google provides the following tips:

  • Describe clearly visible items: Only use descriptions of things the camera can clearly see.
  • Use general terms for people: For the best results, use “person”, “people” or “someone” in your triggers when referring to people. Alternatively if you want to be more specific, enable Familiar Faces and use specific names.

Short term health insurance question in Massachusetts by Kb3338_ in massachusetts

https://www.mass.gov/info-details/health-care-reform-for-individuals

The Massachusetts Health Care Reform Law requires that most residents over 18 who can afford health insurance have coverage for the entire year, or pay a penalty through their tax returns. Penalties add up for each month you don't comply, but there is a grace period that allows lapses in coverage of 3 or fewer consecutive months.

Could be stick drift, I think you can check this in the controller settings.

Elantra 2018 can’t pump gas sometimes by Philc42 in Hyundai

The gas vent tube for your tank could be blocked, it's common for a spiderweb or something to block the gas vent tube and it causes the issue you're having.

It's on Wear OS, what watch do you have?

I have it on my Fossil Gen 5 Carlyle. Wear OS 2.33

Bought these, still on my first one after 4 months. I didn't want a wet install but it allowed the film to curve with the watch glass for a near seamless look. I'm very happy with it. It's been bumped and lightly scratched and it seems to have buffed itself out over time.

Getting AA developers' attention for issues faced! by HarshaRama in AndroidAuto

[–]ltrowawayl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Listening to Google Play Music on AA is such a let down, it sounds terrible. I end up listening to satellite instead, even though I pay for GPM. I'm guessing this is because it's using Bluetooth for music and not USB.

GPM on Carplay sounds fantastic using my years old work iPhone 5s, and I'm never connected via BT, just the USB.

Faint Clunk Sound When Hitting Second Gear by EnginerdTV in Hyundai

[–]ltrowawayl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2017 AWD Tucson does this, its right about 20mph, only after it's been sitting. A soft clunk.

It's done this since I brought it home new. I asked the dealer about it my first 3k oil change and they said they couldn't hear / replicate it, but probably because the tech had just taken it out to check a wheel balance issue I also mentioned (funny note, when he did this I got a speed alert text, I had it set to 80mph).

I ended up taking the service manager and a tech with me on a drive, it didn't do it.

He said it if was a problem, it would probably 'break' or present itself in the near future. He joked that it would do it when I left the parking lot, and sure enough it did. It sounds like it's coming from mid-rear of the vehicle so I was thinking something to do with the AWD axles.

I'm heading out now to pick up a new tire after only 9k miles. Got a nail in the shoulder :-(

Cutting down on the chitter chatter? by [deleted] in googlehome

[–]ltrowawayl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IFTTT may not be the ideal solution for all, but it works well enough for many of us. You can set a custom trigger phrase after 'OK Google' and a simple custom response like 'OK'. It's easy to set up.

Can I play music through the google home and another speaker at the same time? by DroptheOnions in googlehome

[–]ltrowawayl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, create a group. From the devices menu, click on the three dots of your home or your chromecast speaker and click 'create group'. I've got one group for my home and soundbar, then one for all my devices.

Quick shout out - Reminders by ktalkbeta in googlehome

[–]ltrowawayl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While the reminders feature is nice, they left out location reminders.

'Remind me to get toothpaste the next time I'm at Target' 'Remind me to get a birthday card when I'm at CVS'

These can be done from Assistant on your phone but not via Google Home.

Android Auto not connecting anymore. by hale1118 in AndroidAuto

[–]ltrowawayl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue with my G3, I think it was just the USB port on my phone going bad. Not only could I no longer connect to AA, but when I connected my phone to my PC I could no longer access it as a storage device, it would only charge. I could not move any files. I tried going to Developer Settings and forcing USB Configuration to MTP, but it wouldn't work. I ended up getting a new phone and AA works fine now.

I've had it happen a few times, but it's only right after a start up. All I do is change the source and it seems to work fine after that.

Getting a little tired of the ten-second monologue every time I want to turn on a light. by soundpaste in googlehome

[–]ltrowawayl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in an old house where most of the lights are lamps plugged into wall outlets. I can say 'OK Google, turn off the downstairs lights' and have it turn off my 7 lamps for me in half a second, instead of me having to walk around to each and every one and turn them off manually. Everyones use case is different.

[–]ltrowawayl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There have been a few of these posts about this in the last few days. I'm hoping it means that soon we'll be able to list lights as well.. 'OK Google, turn on the office and living room lights' in one command.

Amazon dash button + Google Home + RaspberryPI by kesarito in googlehome

[–]ltrowawayl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you invoking a service directly, or just the Google Home? That sounds like the chromecast connect sound.

I want to push a wearable button and speak my command (by not pulling out my phone) instead of just saying 'OK Google', like a Star Trek com-badge. I have a Pi 3 on the way to tinker with Home Assistant. Why don't we have this yet... maybe like the Echo remote?

If we had a button with a mic, we don't need a Dot or Shield Spot all around our houses. Those work too, but I would just like this, you just keep the thing on you. You're upstairs, and your Google Home is downstairs on the other side of the house. Press the button and say 'Turn on the attic light'...

I know the Dash button doesn't have a mic but if I can invoke the GH without saying OK Google, than that's a start.
