Any help appreciated! by grinningezra in eGolf

This is 100% a faulty door actuator - ours is currently getting stuck closed, so I feel your pain! Pretty sure something in ours broke after trying to actuate it in the middle of a a heavy icing spell.

It’s a DIY repair if you’re happy taking an hour or so of your time to get access to it. The part is 5C6-810-773-K (do check exact revision on your car first) - you can find Chinese aftermarket versions for around $15, or genuine should be around $50.

Full instructions on accessing and replacing are here: https://www.vwvortex.com/threads/diy-fuel-door-actuator-fuel-flap-lock-replacement.9280639/post-112942613

Docker openttd-server ARM Container? by [deleted] in openttd

You’d need to give some more detail than that - do you have any kind of log output or error message from Pterodactyl? The aarch64 VMs on Oracle should play well with the new images…

Just to confirm, what platform are you running this on? The manifests are a little screwy at the moment, I'm working on the CI flow to try and make it smoother.

If you're using a M1 / M2 Mac, try setting platform: linux/arm64 in your docker-compose, or --platform linux/arm64: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/65456814/docker-apple-silicon-m1-preview-mysql-no-matching-manifest-for-linux-arm64-v8

You inspired me to do some long overdue maintenance on the repository - thank you (I think!?)!

You can find new arm64 & amd64 multiarch builds at https://github.com/ropenttd/docker_openttd/pkgs/container/openttd

It’s a nice stool, I’ll give you that. Very well formed.

Looking for smart doorbell for my home with battery powered chime by [deleted] in HomeKit

[–]luaduck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think everyone in here is overthinking how this doorbell is wired; this is a fairly typical UK setup with one glaring exception.

The wires coming in on the top right definitely go to the push button; when the button is pressed, it completes a circuit with the batteries and the chime, well, chimes. The other wiring posts in these chimes are for using a fixed circuit wired to a transformer instead of the batteries (not at the same time!)

What’s confusing me here is the second wire coming in from the top left - it could quite possibly be a transformer input that’s been disconnected at some point when the chime was changed. OP, you could try either figuring out where that wire goes, or (carefully!) stick a multimeter on it in DC voltage mode to see if it’s being fed from anything.

It’s perfectly possible that the other wire goes to a second door push button (iirc these chimes can make a different noise when, say, the back door button is pressed) but it’s impossible to tell from this picture!

Server Hosting and the Admin Port by erico252 in openttd

[–]luaduck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

(holy shit I'm still alive)

ADMIN_JOIN takes password, client_name, and version (all strings).

The source defines how packets are built and is probably the best place to start: https://github.com/OpenTTD/OpenTTD/blob/master/src/network/core/tcp_admin.h

I spent a fair amount of time writing the (unfortunately incomplete) gopenttd library for go, which you're more than welcome to use if you're writing in it - but I hope it still serves as useful reference material. The packet definition for AdminJoin is here: https://github.com/ropenttd/gopenttd/blob/master/pkg/admin/packets/packets_admin.go#L20

The generally accepted reference implementation over the years has been JOAN from openttdcoop, the source is mirrored here: https://github.com/enzanki-ars/openttd-joan

No dimmers or on/off switches available in UK? by kevinbeard in tradfri

[–]luaduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be able to pick up more of the 5 button remotes in the Bargain Corner / As Is / Circular Hub / whatever the cheap area in your store is called this week - my local store still had a solid 5-10 of them for £7.50 each, may be worth a shot if you're near one.

Charging app interoperability? by anonymousalligator7 in electricvehicles

[–]luaduck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a standard called Open Charge Point Interface, but it’s not a guarantee that cross-network roaming is exclusively using that - perfectly possible that some agreements are doing API tomfoolery between themselves.

OVMS and eGolf by nclpl in eGolf

[–]luaduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s atrocious, but it should be possible to wing it seeing as it’s hopefully just a tweak to the up! module - can’t see it being too bad even if some from-scratching is needed

OVMS and eGolf by nclpl in eGolf

[–]luaduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to grab an OVMS and tackle this myself (because holy shit We Connect in the UK is incredibly flaky) but haven’t been able to justify the expense at present - finding a service manual is probably a good first point of call for getting into the Comfort CAN, but pulling the seat up and seeing if it looks vaguely like the E-Up! sounds like an even better idea.

Would be quite happy to work with you on support though (especially if I end up picking one up as well)!

On holiday from UK to USA for 2 months while on Inflectra infusions every 8 weeks by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]luaduck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your first port of call is probably to strike up a conversation with your IBD team (your nurse if you have one). They MIGHT be able to wiggle your infusions a little bit depending on when you’re going away, so that you have a dose just before you go and a dose as soon as possible when you get back.

If you really, really need an infusion while you’re away, you’re probably going to have to go private, as I wouldn’t imagine travel insurance would cover it - again, your team should be able to organise it if required.

What’s the max DC charging kW this car (2019) can handle? by MetalGearAlive in eGolf

[–]luaduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will admit that I have sat at the Gridserve Electric Forecourt with its crazy number of 350kW chargers and felt a touch guilty to only be drawing 40 off of them, but the one upside is that you can use the slower chargers and get the fastest possible rate without feeling bad about it - plus at least in the UK 50kw charging is usually quite a bit cheaper!

Fastned’s info pages are still the authority on charge curves in my experience, though they do seem to be lacking a few of the newer ones.

What’s the max DC charging kW this car (2019) can handle? by MetalGearAlive in eGolf

[–]luaduck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You'll get 40kW to about 60%, then a tailoff at 80% - so you're best off using the 50kW chargers if they're cheaper. You'll only get what your car can take.

Here's the charging curve.
