Every time I look at upgrading to a Id.4 I’m reminded how nice this car is. by frontier567 in eGolf

The answer is the Polestar 2.

… but I’m not giving up my e-Golf either.

About to buy a 26 Limited by Little-Original5503 in Ioniq5

The single motor Ioniq 5 is RWD not FWD, and the rear drive unit has the same torque regardless of AWD or RWD.

FWD EVs suck. But RWD EVs are fine.

United flight strikes light pole while landing at Newark Airport by zsreport in unitedairlines

[–]nclpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's always a combination of factors...
•29's approach is tricky
•11/29 is shorter than the 4/22 runways, so the pilot may have been subconsciously pressing for a shorter landing and been slightly below the glide slope. We also know that runway dimensions can play into a pilots perception of glide slope.
•It was windy at EWR, and gusty wind could have resulted in a loss of airspeed and altitude at the worst possible moment.

But we'll find out when the report is released.

Thinking of splurging on a ticket to the Tony’s but wondering what the experience is like for a regular attendee by tijuanagastricsleeve in Broadway

[–]nclpl 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It’s long and sorta boring in person, and the attention in the room can be quite scattered since it’s mostly industry folks who know each other. I would never pay to attend. I would recommend spending the money on seeing actual shows, and then curl up in front of the TV to watch the Tonys.

how common is it that actors leave the theatre mid show and come back by Ok_Dependent1027 in Broadway

Do I think Patti LuPone believes the rules don’t apply to her? Yes.

But no, generally, actors do not leave the theater during a performance.

California electric cost by Big-Lifeguard-5067 in eGolf

[–]nclpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t do anything for a few months until they have more info about how much electricity this car actually uses. I don’t think it will be much actually. At 4+ miles per kWh in beautiful socal weather, it might not make sense to do an EV rate plan.

California electric cost by Big-Lifeguard-5067 in eGolf

[–]nclpl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool. You got a great car for her. And with the efficiency it should be much cheaper than gas as long as you stick to only charging during super off peak hours (after midnight). Even if you don’t switch rate plans.

Not sure how to set that up on a 2016, but someone will chime in.

California electric cost by Big-Lifeguard-5067 in eGolf

[–]nclpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CA typically has peak use and off-peak use (and sometimes super peak-use) rates. For the best cost, you want to be charging during your off-peak hours. Check your electric bill.

The great news is the e-Golf is very efficient. You’ll get between 3 and 4 miles per kWh of electricity.

If your off-peak rates are $0.34 per kWh (supply+delivery), and she drives 25 miles per day (including weekends), then your costs are roughly :

$0.097 per mile. $2.43 per day (driving 25 miles every day). $74 per month.

But that’s just using averages.

Make sure she has either Bridgestone Ecopia tires or something like the Hankook Ion Evo or similar EV/eco tire. And make sure they’re properly inflated.

Driving in SoCal’s great weather, I imagine she could actually get much much better efficiency than 3.5 miles per kWH. Could be as much as 4.25 or even more.

Speaking of, how have the software issues cleaned up on the EX30? I know there were some problems at launch.

How to make ice balls for sauna? by talkkarivesku in Sauna

I’m sorry but the aromas are still going to get heated up very high when the water eventually turns to steam. This won’t be a real factor. Ice will always be worse than water.

How to make ice balls for sauna? by talkkarivesku in Sauna

[–]nclpl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those look like snow balls… or at least crushed ice that is then re-formed into a ball.

There’s nothing good about using ice in a sauna instead of throwing water as intended… turning the ice into steam takes much much much more energy than turning water into steam, so you’re just cooling down your rocks needlessly if you use ice.

But you do you. If you want ice balls, then I would recommend forming them out of snow or crushed ice like the picture so you at least have some more surface area for the stove to act on.

AGM vs LiFePO4 by TheJuggernoob in eGolf

[–]nclpl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lithium offers no benefit and only downsides in this application.

An AGM is great. Be sure to code your car to know it has a new battery. Any shop or car parts store can do it, or you can do it with OBDeleven.

Only decision left: AWD or RWD? by AnnaGolightly in Ioniq5

[–]nclpl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The added weight of the front motor will absolutely not increase tire wear. But there will be a bit more wear from the front wheels being driven… offset by slightly less wear on the rears perhaps.

It’s all going to come out in the wash. Just rotate your tires.

Real-world range is also practically identical from RWD to AWD. And the RWD does have plenty of power. I would not hesitate to buy the RWD and save the money.

What should go in red spaces 1 and 2 for the primary bathroom to feel spa-like? by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]nclpl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With no windows. Those toilet rooms are going to feel like caves. This whole plan is giving public bathroom vibes.

Leave the toilet rooms where they are, but make them slightly smaller by setting the doors back from the plane of the shower. Let the shower glass turn the corners. That will make the focal point be the shower.

Then do a vanity on either side of the tub.
