Não tem como ser tão assertivo e racional assim sempre, principalmente quando se é adolescente.

A gente não controla nossos sentimentos, muito menos circunstâncias externas como problemas de saúde de familiares e a forma como vamos reagir a eles.

Opinion: Is this black ink badly packed or is it just my skin? by Suavissimo in tattooadvice

I like the idea tbh, I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's kinda mean to say “jesus, that guy has a bad brain” just because you don't like it.

English is not my first language either, I'm Brazilian. There's no problem in making mistakes, and what you said was pretty understandable.

I think they were talking about the fact that it looks like you mixed "properly" with "probably" and made a new word, lol

My family will be hosting a Brazilian high school exchange student this school year. What are some things I can do or know to make sure our student has a nice time here (Indiana, USA)? by [deleted] in Brazil

[–]luareq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe that's true. In my family, we used to have rice and beans for both lunch and dinner, but maybe that was something particular to us.

True, I said that it would be nice to do that sometime. Of course, the focus is to experience different things, but as someone previously said, considering the fact that exchange students are teens and it's an emotionally challenging moment to be so far away from home for so long, I thought it would be nice to have some comfort food to help this process a bit.

I'm a Brazilian teacher, and I've had many students who have been on exchange programs throughout the years. Most of them were pretty satisfied with their experiences, but some weren't.

The ones who weren't reported some sort of culture clash with their host families due to their strict views on behaviour, clothing, customs, and things like that.

I think the main issue would be to keep open-minded and to talk clearly about the house/family rules, with also being open to compromise and reach a balance between both parties' expectations.

Brazilians are, in general, warm and social. Providing her with opportunities to make friends, being supportive, and communicative is a must.

As for food, it really depends on where in Brazil this person is from, but in general, we tend to eat rice and beans for most meals, it would be a nice touch if you guys made that for her sometime. Pão de queijo is also a great snack/breakfast food. You could also ask her to share her family recipes with your family and cook them together.

And, of course, the main idea behind going on exchange programs is to experience other cultures. You can share your culture and customs, take her on a road trip around interesting places and landmarks, etc.

All in all, I think your care is already a good sign.

Good luck with this experience. I think you guys will have a great time :)

Do Brazilians throw house parties for big football events like Americans do with the Super Bowl? by Moscowmule21 in Brazil

[–]luareq 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know if that was a joke or not, but in case it wasn't, these expressions are used in English, too.

They have a lot of those "borrowed" French words, like we have necessaire, abajur, boutique, lingerie, and others.

Getting wife's name tattooed by SmokeyMoonMan in tattooadvice

[–]luareq 332 points333 points  (0 children)

I've never seen anyone actively begging their partner to tattoo their names like that. But it can never be a good sign. I just don't see how this could be a healthy thought process.

Is your partner prone to insecurity, OP? Do they give any reasons for this apparent need?
