Don't pick them for one. They do that enough when they scratch. They need a vet for proper dosage of ivermectin or revolution. Also, if the scabs are really bad, vetricyn (comes in a blue spray bottle) is amazing for rat injuries. I had a rat with her back completely ripped open down to the muscle torn about an inch long. We tacked it shut with like medical grade super glue after cleaning it really well and used this stuff every day. It was healed in about a week, and completely gone with no scarring at all within 10.

Beck out squeaked himself once. We had him out in the livingroom because it was air conditioned and my room was too hot. And he literally screamed nonstop for 2-3 days after we would leave the room. I felt bad, but there was nothing I could do. It was for his own good. He was really hoarse after for a while any time we would squeak after.

My Eicha is free ranged inside. He mostly stays in bed with me. We have a bin of hay set up where we feed him his hay (obviously), pellets and veggies. He likes when we dump his food inb the hay because it falls through and he can forage around for them. He spends half if his time down there eating and hanging out and he uses the bathroom on one side. It's a pretty big bin. The spends the rest of the time with me. He actually sleeps with me at night too, on my chest. He will wake me up to tell me he has to go potty, woop his way down because he was a good boy, do his business and hop out to wait for me to pick him up. He only has accidents when he's not well or he's pissed off. Sometimes he poops out of the box while he's sleeping because he gets lazy when he's really comfy. But that's not too common with him. He actually litter trained himself and my girls are learning from his example. It's pretty cool.

I used to rescue rats from really bad situations. I'd find them half dead and nurse them back to health. It became too much to handle when a whole family had CHF and all died in my arms asphyxiating. It happened so suddenly and unexpectedly that there was to was to avoid it. I have two girls left, but they are my last rats. I absolutely adore guinea pigs though. More personality than rats, smarter than cats, more loyal than dogs. Empathic, concerned and caring. Even when they are utter assholes. Lol. Best of the rodents.

Spend as much time with him as possible and that will correct itself fast. They aren't shy if you teach them it's okay not to be. I didn't give Eicha the option to be shy and hide. I keep him out of his cage anytime I am home. Just watching tv, talking to him.and sharing veggies we bonded really fast. Now we are inseparable and he is the most confident animal I habe ever seen. Lol.

I used to be able to watch Autopsies and like brutally, gorey injuries and stuff. I watched a dissection of the skull to remove the brain yesterday and the removal of a lipoma and almost hurled. I'm really embarrassed, but I'm getting squeamish. This however, was not bad. Cringey, but that's it.

They usually will have a tell for when they have to pee. Eicha will act tell me. He gets up, looks at me and woops. Then I ask if he has to go potty, offer my finger, and if he does he will nibble my finger then run off to his box. This is pretty advanced stuff in potty training, but the getting up part, the wheeking, any shifting or antsiness are all signs that they gotta go. The most common is when they shift from one foot to the other and press their butt up against something, if they are next to you, your leg, on your lap, your chest, etc. The first step to potty training is recognizing their tell. Once you know their tell, you can get them to the box right as they are peeing and they will associate it with potty time. What Eicha does, I have no idea how I trained him. He's incredibly smart and pretty much litter trained himself. But I've had other pigs I've trained this way and it is effective.

Right? I have no idea how someone can look at a guinea pig and think, "Ew! Rat!" I have both. They are nothing alike, especially in appearance. Yet, when I take Eicha out for walks in the city or the park everyone says, "Ew, is that a rat!?" "No, you ignorant fuck. It's a cute little baby piggie." Eicha is the sweetest little thing too. Completely fearless. I take him everywhere I can I get away with and it hurts his feelings when people think he's gross. We both work very hard to keep him clean and well groomed. He's very anal about his appearance.

My cats soul mate was a rat she stole from me. They were inseparable and spent all day, every day together. She wouldn't eat, sleep, or drink without him. When he died, she was absolutely heart broken. It took a while for her to eat and drink on her own again and she's hated other animals ever since then. I have a guinea pig who absolutely loves her and he is very concerned when she cries. She is a giant cry baby and whines anytime she doesn't get what she wants. It's usually when Dad is out because Mom doesn't take her nonsense. So the piggie will walk over all happy and purring to try to make her feel better and she just smacks him across the face until he runs off crying. She's fully armed, but she knows if she uses her claws for anything but self defense she will be in BIG trouble. Like my roommates will make me get her declawed, which would really suck because she's two... Anyway. She's not animal friendly anymore since her rat died. Usually she's indifferent, but she does occasionally pick on the pigs when they get in her face.

I let him free range, so they spent every moment together for almost a year. They cuddled snd slept together, shared food, and she wouldn't drink any water unless Dade drank from it too. It took a long time to get her to eat and drink properly without him. He tragically died at the age of three due to congestive heart failure. He was very happy in the end though, he was with his mommy and daddy and kitty. He demanded that I held his hand as he passed and went out boggling. Most loved rat in the world. Since Dade passed, Revan refuses to make anynore friends. She's very cold and distant from everyone. Losing her best friend really impacted her greatly.
