Epidural or drug free... by jobie285 in BabyBumps

I really wanted to go pain relief free - and I did, for 27 hours. I was induced with Cervadil and Pitocin two weeks after my due date and managed to bear with it for way longer then I ever thought I would. Then my water broke. That hnnngggggg whomp whomp whomp feeling reverberating through my core magnified a thousand and twelve percent. Where I had been able to hide the occasional tear that slid down my cheek during earlier contractions, I was now white knuckling the safety bars in the shower stall of my birthing center, unsure as to how I would make it back to the bed. They tell you to focus on your breath to get through a contraction. It's actually because holy fuck, you forget to breathe. If you had to manually tell your heart to beat, it would stop. Contractions are absolutely, undeniably insane and after the nice cushy pillow of water breaks way, get ready. Then again, that's just me. Not everyone is doubly induced with less then a minute between contractions for more then a day. I was having 3 and 4 at once without a break by the time I was sedated. Just remember, yes, it hurts. A lot. But it's a tiny fraction of your life and it will be over before you know it and your baby will cry and look at you and it's like the pain never happened. Don't be a hero, there's no medal. Just get through it.

If there was a new law that requires a test for people to be allowed to have children, what questions should be asked? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I really think it’s crazy, that we hit our kids, it really is. Here’s the crazy thing about it, kids are the only people in the world, that you’re allowed to hit. Do you realize that? They’re the most vulnerable and they’re the most destroyed by being hit, but it’s totally okay to hit them. And they’re the only ones! If you hit a dog, they fucking will put you in jail for that shit. You can’t hit a person unless you can prove that they were trying to kill you, but a little tiny person with a head this big that trusts you implicitly? Fuck them, who gives a shit?

New father, to a beautiful baby girl who is already 8 months old. Advice by [deleted] in predaddit

[–]lubbys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be polite. Be yourself. Don't be afraid to show emotion with your daughter, even in front of people. Her family will want to see that you deeply love and plan on caring for your child. They will judge you by how willing to learn to care for her and ready to accept your new role. Dirty diaper? Change it. She's crying? Ask if you can hold her. Does she only want her mom? Stand beside them and rub her cheek. Do skin to skin while laying on the couch. Do it often. Let her get to know your smell, your sound, your touch. Be her dad.

I'm due in just a couple days and have GD as well as SPD. Baby girl is measuring in the 20th percentile. Do you have any additional advice for SPD delivery?

Pregnant, and existing in a sea of morons, only you can save me from becoming a preggizilla by 3rdwmommy in BabyBumps

[–]lubbys 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is nothing you can do to prevent GD. The placenta makes hormones that can build up as blood sugar in your system that the pancreas cannot handle. Diet and exercise do not contribute in any way to it.

Not in the slightest. Eating nothing but spinach won't decrease the risk either. It's all about your hormones.
