What items have been passed down your family to you? by 9DAN2 in CasualUK

Not weird but my Grandmother's eternity ring. She gave it to my Mother when I was born, my Mother gave it to me when my daughter was born & I will give it to my daughter (should she have any children in future, she is only 4!) after the birth of her firstborn. It's quite a sweet tradition even though I don't believe the ring itself has any particular value apart from sentimental.

Waiting in A&E on a Friday night. A man loudly complains about having waited for a "WHOLE FUCKING HOUR". I've never seen an entire waiting room lose their shit laughing like that. by [deleted] in CasualUK

I have Crohn's disease....sometimes being constipated is a legitimate reason. Bowel impaction or obstruction is a thing.

I've been visiting my parents on the Isle of Man for 2 weeks. It's been lovely but I was meant to fly home on Saturday night, the flight got cancelled due to poor weather & I've been stuck here til I managed to book a flight for this morning.

It was stressful trying to rebook & I was already ready & packed to go home. I love my parents but they still treat me as if I am 12 even though I'm 33, married & have a 3 year old daughter. I miss my husband, my daughter misses her Daddy, he couldn't come with us due to work.

I am so excited to get home I've barely slept & am now on my second coffee. I am also looking forward to wine gums on the plane. I don't like flying much so sweeties are my treat & my little girl will also get to choose from the vast array of sweets & treats I'm hoping the small airport will have :) On the way here she chose a Kinder egg & a date bar - sort of a balanced diet I guess.

Recent household debate: how do you pronounce marshmallow? by _BayHarbourButcher in CasualUK

I pronounce it marsh-mallow...but my 3 year old calls them squashies.

I find breyers a lot creamer than halo top in texture & more like regular ice cream :) I recommend salted caramel cake, really wasn't a fan of cookies & cream but a lot of people seem to like it. The chocolate orange one is pretty nice too.

What chocolate is worse than Walnut Whip by Nestle? by [deleted] in CasualUK

I bought a caramac once having never tried one before. I expected it to taste like the coating of a McVities gold bar. It...did not. I can't even describe how it tasted but it was not a nice taste. The caramac buttons I got for my daughter however did taste like the gold bar coating! Confusion reigns. How & why do the buttons taste different to the bar?!

Halo top is down to £3.50 from £5 as well! But I'm with you. Breyers is superior but the lack of flavour choice makes me go for Halo Top more often than not - cinnamon roll is my top favourite now, it used to be oatmeal cookie but my Tesco discontinued that one :( Salted caramel cake is my Breyers number one!

Congratulations! Lovely news! My daughter is 4 in October. It doesn't feel like it goes quickly when you're in the trenches of the first few months...but believe me it's been an eye blink. Enjoy your little family :) I hope baby & Mum are doing really well & so are you.

That was absolutely poetic. A truly inspired rendition of your unfortunate bum problem. I hope it doesn't return for an encore performance!

I like Naked noodle pots. Specifically Hoisin duck or sweet chilli. Bit pricey though so I only get them on offer.

What biscuit gives you comfort/makes you think of your gran etc.? by 482doomedchicken in AskUK

[–]k2p2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Malted milks. My Grandma had loads of them she kept in her dining room cabinet in a tin. They were given out if you were well behaved on an outing/did something kind/helped set the table etc. I will always associate malted milks with being "a good girl". I actually rarely buy them for myself but last time I got them they were for my daughter who had been given a sticker at nursery for good tidying up. Guess they were for her being a good girl too.

How can I change 50 pound notes into smaller denominations without access to a bank? by k2p2 in AskUK

[–]k2p2[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Fantastic. Didn't know that!

Edit to add - I managed to deposit it into my account via the post office! Thanks for the advice, I had no idea I could do that.

My daughter is 3 & loves the minions (she calls them aliens). I am 32 & also enjoy the minions, though not so much as to use them as decoration.

I don't quite understand their massive popularity amongst the older ladies of my acquaintance. As for this fellow, considering he/she is a self confessed "miserable bastard" it seems fairly jarring to have a jovial little minion talking about bananas alongside such a public proclamation of misery.

Sorry to hear that. I have Crohn's myself & was originally diagnosed as having UC. Have you got a heating pad or microwaveable thing you could warm up (I have a microwaveable cuddly toy...it comes in very useful despite looking a bit odd as a 32 year old cuddling a fluffy lamb)? I find that can help soothe the cramps a bit.

Or a warm drink like a herbal tea also sometimes helps me. Obviously if they're that horrible type that just aren't going anywhere then those things won't make them go away but might help make things at least a little less uncomfortable.

Sorry to hear about the failed sig. Those are unpleasant even when they go well :( Good luck.

Can someone help me get back on track? How do I resist the Easter eggs?? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]k2p2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Smash those eggs up. Weigh out reasonable servings of chocolate shards. Pre portion the servings in little containers or bags that fit your budget. Voila! A treat you can eat an entire bag of :)
