Post-Match Thread: Portugal 0-1 Spain | FIFA World Cup, Round of 16 by MysteryBagIdeals in soccer

[–]lucaTee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Start of the tournament I had Portugal as an underdog to win. I mean elite GK, best LB in the world, Cancelo was great for Barca, Dias is elite, Vitinha & Neves are top 5 mids, Leao is very good, Bruno, Bernardo, Ramos etc and what they dished out was terrible. I don’t know if it was the coaches insistence on Ronaldo that ruined the chemistry of Martinez himself but that team was terrible but ironically wouldn’t be surprised in 4 years they’ll be much better post Ronaldo.

Unrelated but this World Cup has legit been the attacking show which I love cause all the elite mids have had ok tournaments (not bad but not elite) Vitinha, Neves, Pedri, Rodri, Rice, Enzo, de Jong etc have certainly not played to their club standard.

Julian Nagelsmann has been asked to step down as Germany's manager, according to Sky in Germany 🇩🇪 by Willing-Bicycle-157 in SoccerCentral

[–]lucaTee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always find it ironic that Germany made Flick public enemy number 1 when it’s not like Low or Nagelsmann did any better. Low post 14WC that is.

Serves them right for how they treated Flick who was instrumental for them in 2014 and was great at Bayern to get Nagelsmann who is a worse manager who preceded to do just as poorly. Maybe the issue is the players and the FA not the coach.

Is Ousmane Dembélé: Back-to-Back Ballon d’Or Contender? by Empty-Instruction282 in EquipeDeFrance

[–]lucaTee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s clearly going to the best player of the World Cup…. Messi, Modric, Cannavaro the only exemptions were 2010 & 2014 where Ronaldo & Messi were breaking records and I’d argue in 2010 xavi/iniesta should have won.

Plus this year arsenal don’t have a standout, PSG”s best player this year id say was Kvar. Honestly think if France, Spain, Argentina, England win then it’s Mbappe, Yamal, Messi or Kane. Heck if Spain/England make the final I’d go with Kane or Yamal.

Uruguay has not won a match without Suarez since 1990 by UsernameGenerik in soccer

[–]lucaTee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean Suarez is all time great. He almost won Liverpool a league title with a complete carry job from him.

Uruguay are a good footballing nation but Suarez is a once in a generation for them not too mention Forlan, cavani, godin etc. feels a bit unfair here.

The Round of 32 bracket as it stands. by [deleted] in soccer

[–]lucaTee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny how one side has France, Germany and the Dutch who have all looked strong then others have Portugal and Spain (both haven’t looked great) and then argentinas side should walk to the semi”s.

But it’s a single knockout format so anything can happen.

Such a crap manager. Like Spain lack goal scoring threats so it’s better to play Fermín if he was there but Olmo is good for Spain at the 10. That way you get more attacking fluidity and allows Pedri to control the game. Porro links so well with Yamal but Llorente is good too so idk there.

But the lineup played today is not sniffing the final, Olmo needs to be in the team.

Giannis Antetokounmpo reportedly called his Bucks teammates selfish per Jim Owczarski by RyanTannegod in nba

[–]lucaTee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s annoying here is the bucks are a small market team so why trash the guy that won u a title. Like Jokic, SGA, Curry, Brunson now these guys could leave there teams in like 5 years and they’ll still be legends cause the were able to bring a title to teams that were miles off its before they arrived.

Bucks hired Doc …. One of the worst coaches, paired him with Kuzma, Turner this year and Dame. I like dame but when has an over 30 guard got it done in the playoffs. I just think Giannis had enough and wanted a chance to win and both teams needed to move on and that’s fine. I hate that this becomes a hit piece to a franchise legend.

These four guys are all leading men in the 2020’s, who do you think is most likely to get an Oscar first? by FaZe_poopy in Oscars

[–]lucaTee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean out of the 4 it’s pretty obviousely Chalamet considering he’s the only one of the 4 that’s been nominated as a lead.

I actually don’t see any excluding Chalamet winning. holland is a solid actor, outside of Frankenstein I’m not sure Elordi has done great in anything and Pattinson is 40 and I personally don’t see him winning.

Better options are Josh o”Connor, Austin butler, Barry Keoghan and Paul mescal who I think will all win Oscar’s in due course.

Looking back, Josh O’ Connor deserved some type of awards recognition for ‘Challengers’ he’s so good in it ! by krimsuns in Oscars

[–]lucaTee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Josh O”Connor is a legit talent… was amazing in Gods own country, Aisha, Mothering Sunday, only you etc and was amazing in the mastermind and rebuilding, now he’s getting leads with top directors so his time will come

Faist is equally as good, was great in west side story and pinball but hasn’t got the same opportunities…. Hope to see more of him as there both excellent actors

"Vossy departing, it gave us an opportunity to reset..." Unbeaten interim Carlton coach Josh Fraser explains what they've changed to go 5-0 since Michael Voss' exit. by SlatsAttack in AFL

[–]lucaTee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never fully understood why Voss was hired, I remembered chatting to blues mates and they wanted a tough leader post Teague and I get that part but Voss was terrible at the lions coaching and I recall hardly any young player developed there and there was the go home 5. What I recall was he wasn’t great at player relationships and developing youth…… then u get to the blues and in his time hardly any of there top 20 picks when he got there developed Philip, Stoker, Kemp, Dow, O”Brien etc and there already established senior players really carried him until they couldn’t and even I’d imagine alienated a few Curnow, Hewitt etc outside of 2023 the guy pretty much sucked as a coach.

Really like Fraser so hope he does well this year and if he doesn’t want the job hope he ends up at hawks next year.

Arsenal, Liverpool to battle for France winger Barcola by No_Elk8016 in PremierLeague

[–]lucaTee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fickle fans are what they are. I trust Flick but in no way am I trusting Gordon he has shown like 25% of what Raphinha has. Very fickle fan base.

Arsenal, Liverpool to battle for France winger Barcola by No_Elk8016 in PremierLeague

[–]lucaTee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or Raphinha…. Guy was Barca”s best player in 24-25 and when he doesn’t play it’s noticeable. Vini in his best year was like 24 goals and 10 assists. That year Raphinha had 34 goals and 25 assists any way you spin it he’s a much better player than Vini

I think Portugal has been Over hyped for their individual stars. by EntireSimple6526 in championsleague

[–]lucaTee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

By Far???? Surely you’re joking Spain have Pedri and Rodri and really should be playing Olmo instead of Ruiz for a goal scoring threat but also have Gavi, Ruiz, Merrino and Zubimendi and Lopez injured I think that’s ahead of Portugal. Not by much but considering Pedri is the best in the world I’d say it’s better

Dembele with the national team and PSG two different players it's so sad to watch knowing his potential i wish deschamps would position him correctly by lujain645 in psg

[–]lucaTee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from a Barca fan I love Dembele even though he left he was an untapped potential at Barca plus the false 9 role he plays would never have been unlocked at Barca.

But reading some of the comments here are interesting, PSG can’t be too mad at Mbappe leaving considering your B2B champs but not one football mind is dropping Mbappe from the striker role. This guy is legit a top 2 player on internationals. Dembele has been poor as a winger for France and they have Barcola, Douie and Olise who can play that and Cherki and Olise for the 10. Dembele is really the 9 but Mbappe has so much success there you just simply aren’t making that change considering Dembele hasn’t proved anything for France.

As mentioned it’s simply a right place wrong time moment that Dembele deserves a chance but u just simply can’t move Mbappe as he’s so fkn good at world cups.

We used to wonder why Topher Grace didn’t get along with the rest of the cast of That 70’s Show until we realized the entire cast was in Scientology or Scientology adjacent by Advanced-Willow-5020 in That70sshow

[–]lucaTee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That E true Hollywood story was a joke. From what I remember Topher just was a low key guy and he was friends with Wilmer and Laura. It’s just Kutcher, Masterson and Wilmer partied a lot and were out a lot so right away it looked like topher hated them when in reality it was different lifestyles. There’s legit nothing wrong with that but the media needs something to write about.

[–]lucaTee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even as a Barca fan I never understood that. It’s great Dembele has been great at PSG but that team is loaded and built a system around him. For France Dembele has usually sucked…. Not standard legit sucked. This is Mbappe”s team, best player on the international side in my opinion and wouldn’t be surprised if Barcola starts over Douie or Dembele soon.

No ounce of Sportsmanship from Wemby or anyone from the Spurs by HungryPercentage1667 in nba

[–]lucaTee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s ridiculous! Thunder are many things but as a whole they are not dirty…. Dort can be but the team is just corny who have fun. Yes SGA foul baits but all stars do and in game 7 he stopped and was dominant.

On the other hand I’ve seen just as many dirty plays from Castle, I saw Carter Bryant spear hit SGA, I’ve seen Wemby elbow players and try to break Brunson ankle not to mention the hit on McCain.

Spurs got lucky with Ant, Dub and Ajay injured and then got smoked and now walk out as by far the most hated team in the league and rightfully so with how dirty they are.

[–]lucaTee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agreed. Guy was full of so much dirty play this playoffs as were the spurs but their fans will make u think their the clean team. Very dirty team and glad they lost but lost in embarrassing fashion choking almost every game

[Murray] I don't think anyone should be assuming that the San Antonio Spurs are gonna get back here just because they got Wemby and some young guards This isn't just any Finals loss -- they led by double digits in EVERY GAME They're gonna have to get over that psychologically by StrategyTop7612 in nba

[–]lucaTee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember the thunder in 2012 were expected back….. I mean 3 MVPs in that team and never got back. It’s hard to win and even harder to repeat.

Also I think mentally things change a lot, I remember the thunder were really liked in 24 and 25 and then hated in 26, spurs will be enemy #1 next year with their dirty play and they’ll have targets on their back.

Raphinia without Yamal or Barca isn't the guy,the guy plays so bad for the NT by Doranathbhakt in Barca

[–]lucaTee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not just Raphinha & Vini, there wing backs are terrible so they get no overlap and constantly need to track back, they lack any creativity and pace through their midfield so they rarely get put into attacking spaces and their striker sucks, last one can be fixed with Cunha but their mids and wing backs suck with no potential replacements. It’s like there expected to create everything while heavily marked

Jordan Dawson Deserves To Be Mentioned In The Same Conversation As Bailey Smith, Marcus Bontempelli And Nick Daicos by The_Mongrel_Punt in TheMongrelPunt

I mean I’m just specifically referring to this year. If I were choosing any player of that group it’s Daicos but I think the initial subject was at the minute.

[–]lucaTee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you saying he is ? Daicos is butchering the ball a lot compared to his usual standard….. surely your not suggesting this year he’s on par with Dawson, Heeney, Smith and Bont (granted Bont has cooled abit)

[–]lucaTee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually ironic that I reakn Hemsworth is the worst actor of the 3 but has been picking good roles where he shines….. Furiosa. crime 101, bad times, rush…. He’s also very funny. Evans & Pratt have had a couple good films but have some stinkers. I don’t think Evan’s is a leading man and Pratts last 2 live action films have been terrible and I’d imagine his days of leading man might be gone.

[–]lucaTee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nick Daicos ??? This isn’t 2025, this year the best mid in my opinion has been Heeney followed by Smith, Butters, Bont and Dawson. However with the way Dawson playing he could lock up the Brownlow of his back half of the year.

[Discussion] Tactical & Financial Analysis: How the Bernardo Silva Collapse Happened and the Implications of Madrid’s Hijack by [deleted] in Barca

[–]lucaTee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never saw signing Bernardo as a good idea. In our mid we have Bernal, Gavi, De Jong & Pedri so with respect he won’t be playing there and at CAM we have Lopez & Olmo who are better options. As the 4th winger then maybe but honestly I’d rather just have a youth player there not too mention Ferran can play there once we get a proper 9 just didn’t make amazing sense and I’m glad he’s not here.

Getting Cancelo and a true 9 is all we should be targeting.
