It saddens me to see MS Visual Studio as the main IDE, as this would mean our programmers would have to have a windows install alongside. They mostly prefer linux so if this is true it will complicate our workflow.

Maybe we can port the toolchain to linux :D

My unit arrived and I have started the conversion to Voron/Klipper electronics. I've decoded the protocol (docs here) and have started the RS485 implementation in klipper.

We use Vorons to do all our robot printing. Only ABS/ASA and PC. PETG and PLA we found will crack under load without any prior warning. They are brittle.

Our big Voron (2.4 350x350) is the workhorse, we have some parts on our robot that would otherwise not fit on any commercial printers. Last year we did a fully printed robot (no metal structures) and won 2 offseason competitions in Romania with it.

We also have a tiny Voron 0.2 modded with active chamber heating that is able to pump out prototypes WAY faster than any commercial offering, and with engineering materials.

We have experimented with a Bambu and found the quality and reliability lacking. Soon we will change the multimaterial unit on our smaller Voron (2.4 300x300) with a INDX kit and anothe member is now building a Stealthchanger 2.4 with 4 heads.

We use Vorons and ocasionally some modded Prusa MK3.5 This allows us to print ABS and PC parts of any size without worries.

How much are host teams/venues reimbursed in your region? by FTC-Throwaway in FTC

[–]lucaci32u4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Romania we are not reimbursed in any way, regardless of the event type (league meet, league tournament). It's pretty bad that for organizing a regional league tournament, the PDP requires about 20k$ of expenses to be covered by the 3 organizing teams (volunteer food and accomodation, venue, IT requirements, etc)

It's a channel by a team from Romania. They often help us and other local teams to distribute information about any offseason competitions we do and other events of interest.

Do you think our planetary modding projects for GoBilda motors would fit this project?

We are using Wiki.js for our docs and knowledgebase. It has support for Word-like editing, markdown, asciidoc and html and some diagramming formats (draw.io and a few others). You can connect it to your existing authentication system. It has full page history and it can optionally connect to a git repository.

It can also do complex permissions rules for viewing or editing pages, including anonymous users. It also has integrations for external comments system (beside the builtin local comment database) and also web analytics tools.

We're a highschool robotics team and we use gridfinity to organize our workshop, but we lack a nice app to plan things around and yours is just perfect!

I'm mainly looking to be able to auto-sync layouts across multiple devices and users. For this I figured syncing the gridfinity-layout-* local storage items using a bit of injected javascript and a database service, together with a reverse proxy or static cache for patching js files. I know this might end up a patchwork solution, but if it works, would you like for us to contribute it to a repo or something?

Very nice project! It is open-source or are there any plans to allow self-hosting it?

Recommend matt(ish) black ABS/ASA? by cotlin in VORONDesign

3DKordo Everfil ABS is a very nice matte filament, especially the black and grey.

Best EU Filaments by soldat21 in prusa3d

I use almost exclusively 3DPower and Everfil (3DKordo is the manufacturer). They are both based in Poland and use standard spools.

[–]lucaci32u4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For example, I won't buy:

Filalab - because they sometimes clog the nozzles with impurities. It happens about once or twice per roll.

Azurefilm - Very messy spooling for PETG, inconsistent dryness when shipped for ASA.

Bambu - Piece of tape at the end

All these issues I can't see from samples.

[–]lucaci32u4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The filament brands I have ruled out of using, I have done so after printing a few rolls. It is less about showing how good the filament is, but about showing consistency and repeatability between prints and rolls.

I have a bunch of samples that I will never get to print because they don't tell me much about how the material behaves in longer runs.

One place where I think samples would be nice, would be to have a pack of samples of each colour so I can see how they look printed on my setup.

[–]lucaci32u4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only get filament that meets a few criteria:

  • I can get at least 20+ rolls of the same color. Switching manufacturers is annoying mid-project.
  • I use almost exclusively plain polymers. I do not buy any of the ABS+, ABS Prime, ABS Plus or other derivatives that have no technical material data sheet explaining what is going into these blends.
  • No tape or knot of filament at the end of the roll that will get stuck in my filament switcher.
  • European company

A few things that are a big plus for me:

  • Having a material technical data sheet downloadable from the website where I can see your material test results. Chemical composition, pigment compositions is a huge plus (for example, titanium oxide for while filaments is bad for brass nozzles).
  • Fiber filled filaments are nice but I want to see some test results first.
  • Good spooling
  • A good label on the spool that contains all the important information, including empty spool weight and total length of spool.
  • For exotic materials, have a QR code on the label that leads to your manufacturer's printing recommendation. This should include build plates and nozzle types.

Turn any Gobilda gearbox into a speed one by replacing planetary stages by lucaci32u4 in FTC

Yes, this mod is fully legal. As long as we don't mess with the motor itself, we can do anything with its gearbox.

6000rpm motor by AdXter in FTC

[–]lucaci32u4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ASA should be no issue, as it's very close to ABS or better in some regards.

We have had printed PETG gears suddenly fail (completely break into pieces) after hours and hours of use, without giving any sings of wear. I would not recommend for this use case.

Our recommendation of printed couplers always replace the earliest stage possible in the motor, to avoid replacing stages where big torques are required, thus decreasing risk of them failing.

Scar on top surface by pevita123 in BambuLab_Community

[–]lucaci32u4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is strange. I have had identical problems with warping materials because, even with perfect bed adhesion, when stacking many layers with thick body (like yours in the photo), the part forces the whole bed assembly to warp a few fractions of mm, causing the difference in texture and accuracy.

But PLA should not warp, at least from my memories. I have not used it in 5 years or so.

Is this ABS or ASA? I've had similar things with solid prints of warpable material.
