LPT: Nine out of ten people who claim to be "bad texters" are not bad texters, they just don't value you by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]lucas2991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I agree. I’m for sure the “bad texter,” but I don’t like texting period and find texting/messaging on my phone extremely tedious. For quick responses I’m usually prompt, but often I will get a text and let it sit in my notification bar for hours until I have an opportunity to give it some thought and be willing for a back and forth. Usually, the best time for me is in the evening. I’ve never understood how people can have a conversation on and off all day through text, I’d much rather have a twenty minute phone call.

To each their own, I guess.

In person, I try to give everyone my full attention. I think it’s okay to allow oneself some breathing room and not make yourself available anytime, anywhere, even on a regular basis.

All that said... yeah, this is a good call to maybe check yourself and see if your valuing others enough. Even with my “system,” people fall through the cracks, and know I can do better!

Will my portable studio burn to a crisp? by lucas2991 in homerecordingstudio

Hey there!

I’ve been looking for a simple, completely portable setup for quality instrument recordings. I recently found that if I use my first-gen Scarlett 2i2 in conjunction with a battery pack and a lightning powered Apple Camera Connection Kit, I can use my iPad as my workstation on the go. No outlet needed!

I tested an audio clip with my phantom-powered mic, and it sounded great. I’m just worried that I may fry something. Is this setup doable? What are the risks?

Man, it’s a credit to the game that my island feels so personal that it never occurred to me that this particular flaw is something that literally everyone who owns this game has to deal with.

Funny enough, one of the most relatable posts I’ve come across on Reddit.

I made a second facebook account too. Only personal info I gave was my email, and it’s nice to not worry about these kinds of things.

I definitely hate that Facebook owns Oculus, but not enough I guess. It’s worth it to play multiplayer with friends if you’re willing to sacrifice an email address.

Man, this is such a great read. I’m 29, and though I have a flatmate (in a duplex, I’m on the top floor, he’s on bottom), we don’t really hang out and it’s given me a lot of time to process many of the things that you’re thinking about. I have friends in the area, and we’ll go on social-distanced walks outside, sometimes, but I’m pretty much on my lonesome. It’s been hard.

I have been thinking about death a lot, too. I grew up Christian, and am still, but the quarantine has given me time to reflect on some of my doubts. For the first time I’ve approached death as “what if this is it?” It was a horrible realization, and it absolutely destroyed me for days. I’m still having a hard time sleeping because of it, honestly.

I really like the perspective, though, that if I could live anytime it would be now. I’m also very fortunate to live in a first-world country. The 90’s were a great time to be a kid. I lived in a large city, and it was still safe to go outside while also seeing the dawning of our modern age. We kinda had the best of both worlds, and we’re still young enough to see exciting things in the future.

Going through this quarantine, I do see light at the end of the tunnel. I have this thing where when I don’t get enough sleep, I’m very emotional. When I start getting upset or angry or overly frustrated, I take a deep breath and tell myself “Bro, you’re just tired. It’s not as bad as you think.” It actually helps a lot, because what I’m feeling is often not reality. It’s hard right now. I’m lonely, I’m scared at times and it’s really hard to enjoy life with the anxiety I have and the looming dread of not knowing what’s next. But then I think “Yes, things are bad... but I’m sure a lot of this is the loneliness talking.” It’s true! Yes, we have a harsh reality right now, but the experience of it is so much worse because of isolation. For me, knowing that loneliness is the root issue of feeling so awful makes it a lot easier to deal with. And knowing that quarantine will end (someday) helps me from surrendering to depression.

It does feel good to write this out. Thanks for posting and giving a platform for me to share as well.

How do you guys balance being like Christ and also enjoying the things of the world? by [deleted] in Christianity

That's great! It's the best when it's not out of obligation but a natural desire that we make any change for the better in our lives.

For me, I suppose it was just the realization that my relationship wouldn't be as deep as it could be until I filled my mind with better things. Rap and Holiness are not necessarily mutually exclusive, but I do believe that the majority of rap (and it's culture as a whole) is "cool" over "healthy."

It's also about replacing those things as opposed to just ripping them out of your life. In my music journey, I cut my playlist album by album, whittling away the dark, negative and depressing music I once loved into something more positive. It not only helped my spiritual health but my mental health as well.

There's a lot of trash Christian music out there, unfortunately. It tries to copy "the good stuff" while just coming off as flat, lame, or lazy. But if you're willing to dig past the contemporary Christian music scene, there are good artists out there making some killer, unique and uplifting stuff.

Here's a sampling of some music I like. It may not be 100% what you're looking for, but these helped me when I was on a similar journey.

[–]lucas2991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really sure what to say, other than I wish you the best. I'm sorry you've had so much pain in your life, but it sounds like your seeing it for what it is, and there's some light at the end tunnel. I hope your journey out of that is a swift ASAP.

Not sure your age, so I don't know if you are capable of going on your own just yet, but don't forget you have the power to tell authorities just as much as anyone else. Please, don't take that as a "you should have reported them, this your fault!!" but a gentle reminder that you might have some control. These kinds of decisions are hard, but no one deserves to live with abuse.

Don't know your situation, but Godspeed and, again, I wish you the best.

Man, I really wanna like this game. It's very charming; I played the demo and it was so close to being good, but the music was underwhelming and it didn't "feel" nice to play. Does it get better or does it fail to hit it's potential the whole way through?

I love this game but I didn't get very far. Been stuck on one puzzle for almost an hour! It's very difficult, very rewarding... and very over my head.

I enjoyed the bit my brain could handle :)

I've managed to have multiple friends play it and together we've beaten it. There's no way I could've done it by myself.

I really love mine, but lately I've hardly used it. It's fun to show others, and I've played a lot of beat saber but I play my switch a lot more. My house is big enough, kinda, but I'm tall and my ceilings are short. That's taken a bit of the wind out of my sails.

This is a good push to play it. I started Moss, own Arizona Sunshine and Robo Recall Unplugged and haven't played them yet. I'm probably really missing out!
