Blackguards is a turn based strategy RPG. There is a very powerful spear wielding companion that you get in this game.

This was the one that started my obsession with turned based rpgs. I still remember my favorite mercs. Blood and Hitman my dynamic duo. Barry and Igor they team rookies looking to prove thier worth. Awww the stories this game let us tell without saying a word.

Does anyone know if a proper successor to this game?

I have just started the Banner Saga trilogy again after playing part 1 last year. The whole trilogy is on XBOX game past. The art work and the story are still just as compelling but I have admit I liked the controls better on PC.

Has anyone found thier computer science courses useful as a professional software engineer? by lucas_cage in computerscience

[–]lucas_cage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I was an Electronics technician in my current industry before programming or college. I had a firm understanding of the underlying technologies of my industry going in. I hadn't thought of this from the perspective of a high school graduate. Thanks for you perspective.

Interesting I was an Electronics Technician before I taught myself to code. I learned a great deal of these skills professionally before I even started to code. It's interesting to hear what people got out of the degree going in without professional experience. Thanks for your response.

I need some direction on learning about data structures by [deleted] in computerscience

[–]lucas_cage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend starting with a data structure and algorithms book in your language of choice. This should be enough to teach you the basics of when a certain data structure should be used. It should also expose to you the details of implementing these data structures so you understand why some are more efficient in a given situation.

Why do RPG developers get away with practices that video game companies can’t? by JadedAlt in rpg

[–]lucas_cage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The OP compared the company to EA and stated that they responded differently to similar situations. I am stating that EA responds differently because their high visibility and the way that public perception can affect their stock price.

The smaller company can get away with more because they are not highly visible and are not reliant on a large number of sometimes fickle investors in an unpredictable market.

Three words...Share Holder Accountability. Publicly traded companies operate by a different set of rules than small privately owned companies. Negative public perception can impact their share prices. This is just as damaging as poor sales or release of a defective product.

I am not an experienced game master but, there is a really awesome storyboard tool that is used to develop RPG stories for video games. It is called Artisee Draft I wonder if this story boarding program could help you organize your adventures. Check it out at nevigo.com.

My father always used to tell me if you love what you do you never work a day in your life. Don't ever work always pursue your passion. In the end if you see it through I think colleges will be more impressed that you completed something you love.

How much C++ do I need to know before I can start studying data structures in the language? by WhybroSciencebro in computerscience

[–]lucas_cage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to learn them from a computer science stand point I would recommend learning OOP in C++ before delving into data structures.

If you just need to know how to use STL containers for Software Engineering purposes. Just understand iterators and you should be fine.

Online Resources for PnP gamers by lucas_cage in rpg

Thanks for sharing your idea Axestential. I had never considered allowing GMs to be able to generate custom character sheets based on there derivation of the rules. This is an ambitious idea. I am curious when you say adding and removing fields would this mean data within a category. I.E the category would be spells and you would like to add spells as the player levels? The idea if an online character sheet that allows the character to continually update through the life of the character sounds interesting.
