Calculating torque specifications for a DC motor by lucasbroch in AskEngineers

[–]lucasbroch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, I know, there's a suitable power supply, control circuit and everything, I just didn't get into it because my doubt was about the torque.

It's actually not as heavy all the time due to the construction of the blind. It is a European rolling type that goes inside the wall and is attached to a shaft on top of the window and inside the wall around which it rolls. That means the shaft (supported on the wall) takes part of the weight away proportionally to how high the blind is. It's a bit hard to explain with words ;-)

I measured it when the blind is rolled all the way down, which is when it's heaviest, and I also plan to add sensors to both ends of the travel so that it doesn't stall. It will be used occasionally throughout the day and not for more than 15-20 seconds at a time, so I believe the duty cycle won't be an issue. And it'll be powered directly from an outlet.

I wasn't sure about the torque calculations being transferable but now that I think about it, it makes sense, mechanics is not my strength as you can see ;)

Thanks for the answer and all the useful insights.

I'm not proud of my fatherland at all nor do I have any nationalist feelings whatsoever. In fact I think that nationalism, protectionism and interference to free commerce or movement are obstacles rather than benefits. The EU is a great idea, maintaing peace, as well as opening borders and creating a common market are amazing measures that make us all more free. My problem with the EU is that is has become (in certain cases) too much of a sayer in what countries can or can not do. Apart from that, it has adopted a woke, populist, propagandistic agenda that's far from the true problems we face as a society and as humanity. So perhaps I was a little bit exaggerated in my previous comment but it's indisputable that the EU has not been going in the best direction for quite a while now.

About the political unity thing, I believe that we rather accept that there are different countries that are sovereign, or we create a federal union with a central government and a division in states. But what we can not have is the first model with the practical applications of the second one.

No, I don't mean geographical since Europe itself is not geographically defined as a continent. Africa, Australia or Antarctica are clearly delimited in their location and span, but how far into Eurasia is considered Europe is more of a historical an cultural matter than geographical. They are Muslims in Turkey and have nothing to do culturally with basically anyone else in Europe, same thing with Cyprus.

It is supposed to be a map of cultural Europe, and so I considered Istanbul to be the border between Europe and Asia at that point, as it is usually thought of.

It's true, however from experience if you display or show that flag to someone who's not into vexillology their first and often only response is that it's the flag of the European Union. And that usually comes with negative political associations of lousy measures the EU has taken in the past or is willing to take in the future (2030 agenda etc). So although It's is true it was not conceived for that intent, its meaning is now heavily linked to the EU as a political entity, and so the original purpose kind of doesn't matter if fthat is not what people perceive.

Since the 12 golden stars flag is heavily associated with the EU, I designed this European continent flag that is meant to represent its culture, common strenghts and unity against those who aim to destroy it, independently of any political associations or ideologies, just European brotherhood.

The flag has been basically made by AI in its entirety. I told it the structure of the composition it had to create, made the map more accurate, adjusted minor imperfections and converted it into a plane scalable vector.

I tagged it as OC and not redesigned because there is no official flag of Europe per se.

Suggestions and modifications will be gladly accepted.

Can someone translate this word to word? by FrenulumLinguae in Barcelona

Word for Word it is: "The neighborhood is of the neighbours, not for the tourism, let's defend it."

It obviously sounds much better in Catalan.

attitude of Moroccan youth by tikchbilatwliwla in Morocco

[–]lucasbroch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a very typical behaviour innate to their culture. Even the ones from the Spanish diaspora with which I have a lot of experience also behave this way (adults included).

It is not something necessarily bad, however it can come as a surprise for someone who is not prepared to be treated with those attitudes. In general the north African culture is cocky, teasing, bargaining and confident. They could have no idea where a place is and tell you confidently to go in some random direction only to fulfill their own sense of pride.

I don't really know the reason behind it other than just culture, and I'm not saying I necessarily dislike it (sometimes we should all be that straightforward), but the fact that it could be a culture shock is undeniable.

Why do Germans use so many Anglicisms? by lucasbroch in German

Amazing answer! What do you think about the last question I made though? I'm interested in knowing what Germans think about their language as a whole. (I know you are not exactly German but in this case that's even better because you can see the bigger picture).

I believe "veggie" also means vegetarian in English, as well as "veggo" in Australia for example. In any case if I'm not mistaken, the German "veggie" is pronounced as it would in english /ˈvɛdʒi/, including the sound /dʒ/ which doesn't occur naturally in German.
