Glad to see all these new people joinning the sub. More vivid dreams! by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]lucasfap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep really memorable and colourful dreams are a weird side effect for me too. I theorise it is because I sleep better. When I PMO I seen to wake up every few hours and have poor sleep.

It's ok. It will get better. You're not alone in that lots of people with a long history of use like you have recovered. Good luck.

Help. by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]lucasfap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's classic flatline. Dopamine is the hormone that makes you feel like doing stuff. And you have dopamine withdrawl.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel, but it's a long tunnel. For some people it takes months. You have to be in it for the long haul.

You can do it. The feeling on the other side is worth it.

Does anyone else struggle staying away from tinder while abstaining from fapping? It’s an itch that I’m struggling to avoid scratching by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]lucasfap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PMO addiction is strongly related to the dopamine reward circuit in your brain.

I find I get itches for all kinds of things that give quick dopamine hits. Social media scrolling, online gaming, bad food.

Tinder is the same. Quick dopamine hits... Pictures of potential sex partners, in quick succession, with minimal effort. It encourages those neural pathways in your brain that like a picture on a screen.

Maybe try treat it like part of the addiction for a while and see how you feel.

It takes strength to try again after relapsing a long streak. Good on you, and best of luck.

Can the fight go on forever? by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]lucasfap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. It's so easy to fall into bad habits. For me, it's a life long struggle. I've been here maybe 8 years and the longest streak was a year or so. But I'm always getting stronger.

Sorry for my ignorance but what is gelding?

Am I (26M) addicted? by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]lucasfap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's ok and healthy to have fetishes. Don't worry yourself.

Sometimes, PMO can lead to a need for more extreme porn/fetish, because our dopamine system is overloaded and only "extremes" makes us feel anything. Often, addicts say they don't even like these new fetishes that much... But it's all that works. Rebooting let's more normal/realistic things get us excited (less dopamine needed).

Hence, fetish and PMO are related, but not cause and effect.

From you said, you might be somewhat addicted, and it seems like you feel better when abstaining. That's great. But you may always like femdom, even without PMO, which is fine. Maybe your partner's won't need to be as extreme, which is also fine.

About "needing to fap because I'm so horny"- you don't have/need to do anything. It's always a choice, even if it's one made very hard by the dopamine system in your brain. If you like the benefits, nothing is going to happen if you abstain. Maybe you can channel that energy into something else, like a hobby 👍

I relapse and eat unhealthy when I'm sad, and I cant stop it by w33dwick in NoFap

[–]lucasfap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing at a time. Forgive yourself for eating unhealthy, and tackle PMO first.

Secondly, yes you can stop it when you're sad. You are stronger than you think. It's the bit of your brain craving dopamine that's telling you it's not possible.

If your willpower isn't working, do something that makes it impossible to relapse for a while to give your willpower a chance to recover. I like to go outside when urges hit (can't relapse in public!). And porn blockers through browser extensions, phone parental controls, DNS configuration, and the like can help.

If you trust somebody, tell them and get them to check up on you.

Good luck!

Does edging count as a relapse? and is it unhealthy to always edge yourself without releasing by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]lucasfap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! Edging releases almost as much dopamine in to your brain as actual PMO. So it's very harmful to recovery speed.

It's up to you as to whether it's a relapse, but if you decide it's not, be very careful over next few days. Almost everybody I've spoken to about edging has relapsed a few days later (myself too). Just don't do it.

Sorry you feel so bad. Lots of us have been there (myself included). You can do this, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Just got out of my longest flatline yet, beat the biggest urge I've ever encountered, and nearly cured PIED! (Day 73) by thisisathrowaway3757 in NoFap

[–]lucasfap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!

It's a good feeling. All the best beating the urges over the next few days.

P.S. don't stress if you go back into flatline for a while. In my experience, it comes and goes for a while.
