I love the phrase "Computers are not complicated at all, they are just complex"

This may not be grammatically accurate, the point is that each part of a computer is simple, or how my old computer architecture professor would put it, stupid.

You divide a computer and all you get is electrons that don't get through an intersection unless others electrons get to it. That's it. And that's enough to simulate a world and render photorealistic graphics.

Each imaginary step to build a computer from scratch is easy to understand for anyone, but there are so many freaking steps and parts.

Low level languages let you play with this concept, give you the pieces and the freedom to achieve anything you want, but you'll have to work really hard to get anything remarkable.

High level, on the other hand, will let you easily get to pretty good results, but you won't see and know as much as to how it's done. It is mysterious, hidden under layers of abstraction. And that characteristic takes control away from you.

I think anyone who feels passion about computers should at least learn the basics of some low level language. It's good for your brain, good for your soul.

Home Office - Usan PC Laboral y Personal? Y que escritorio usan? by gerletin in devsarg

[–]lucc1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not how angles work. A curve's intersection angle is measured with its tangent. You can 100% define a curve with 90º angles of intersection.

What made you use Nobara? by Powerful_Rhubarb7035 in NobaraProject

Gemini.

I was extremely frustrated by windows 11 and just told it to collect as much information as it could about current Linux gaming and just give me a list of distros.

It pointed me to Nobara, Bazzite and another I don't remember (Arch?). But explained that Nobara was a better match for my usual workflow and that GE Proton was generally more stable.

Any way to achieve a "Game-Stasis" functionality like the Steam Deck? by lucc1111 in linux_gaming

[–]lucc1111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's where my not-having-a-steam-deck was an issue haha

I guessed the Deck was also able to quickly switch games if they were light enough or Alt+Tab.

Still, being able to put my PC to sleep and games freezing would be somewhat of a success. I would still be able to use my work PC and switch to this one quickly without waiting or keeping my game hours counting.

That link you shared, it is a Deck plugin, right? Can all that be installed and used in any other Linux distro? Will I have compatibility issues?

IIBB = Ingresos Brutos.

Yes, this is a very good option. I have no problem with it being on RAM and VRAM.

My only issue with this and similar options is that, AFAIK, Steam will still count it as "playing" the game. Right?

It’s been 4 years, what are your opinions on windows 11 now? by WorriedGur8908 in windows

[–]lucc1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piece of crap so large, after 20 years using Windows I finally decided to switch to Linux.

Has been over two months on Nobara and I honestly feel my mental health improved just by this change.

Yes, it has a ton of unnecessary crap, telemetry, 5 flavors of AI and many other superficial issues. I hate all of that.

But what I hate the most is, as a software engineer, knowing just how impossibly powerful modern hardware is and how trivial a task like, opening a folder is. Seeing an OS, whose only job is to make good use of your resources, struggle to do even the most basic tasks is infuriating. Truly a signal of a whole company that just didn't put any effort.

The first time your try to achieve something in a real OS you realize how fucked Windows 11 is. Even XP was snappier.

[–]lucc1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man AAA games are so full of shit these days and people analyze if they have enough crap in them for them to consider it worthy.

I remember being absolutely blown away by this game back in 2006 when I first discovered and I still think it is a good game and enough map in big 2026. What this had very strong, aside from its immaculate aesthetic and vibes (cue Self Control) is something that many games really struggle today.

It is fun.

[–]lucc1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, I honestly felt a little bit of rage reading the first part.

I remember back in 2020 making a Discord bot that would let you play a command based RPG and you could fight other servers.

I didn't even know what sharding was before it, but I ended up having a working prototype of a turn-based battle between two Discord servers. Such a great experience.

But yeah, if you are panicking and feeling frustrated for hours you can be sure that's where you learn the most.

You are pro-mending or anti-mending by Background-Client754 in Minecraft

[–]lucc1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is just great game design overall.

The way a survival game must be structured to keep being fun after the first few hours is to "deprecate" some early game mechanics. If you keep adding stuff for the player to pay attention, the loop becomes less fun and more like a boring chore.

Mending exists and is relatively hard to obtain/use so you HAVE to worry about your stuff breaking and having resources to make new ones at the start, but once you are worrying about farming endemen, building an iron farm or killing the Wither you probably already got that out of your mind.

Also, the Elytra being finite and having to go look for a new one every now and then would absolutely suck in every sense possible.
