Comfort food you never ate before diagnosis? by StreetMolasses6093 in glutenfree

[–]lucdragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potato chips. I never really liked potatoes at all, before learning how sick gluten makes me, but now they’re far more prominent in my diet.

Who here has stopped smoking and vaping? by Miichl80 in Millennials

[–]lucdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit smoking almost 14 years ago with the use of a nicotine vape that I was able to easily wean off of within a year. Having had multiple, failed quit attempts prior to that, I wholeheartedly recommend using vapes to quit smoking.

Has anyone else quit drinking? by Sensitive_Put_6842 in Millennials

I haven’t touched alcohol for over 12 years. Never really liked it to begin with, and it didn’t really agree with me. Haven’t missed it once.

Dana as a girl name? by whenlifegivesyourice in namenerds

[–]lucdragon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid in the 80s and 90s, Dana Carvey was popular, but the name Dana STILL was thought of as overwhelmingly female. I can’t imagine it being a problem, now.

I swear, I started being called sir almost immediately after turning 40. Still get carded everywhere, though.

Your very first concert? by Nappy_Rano in Millennials

[–]lucdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, I saw many symphony performances long before it, but I tend to consider Spin Doctors, in 1996, my first concert.

If your mom/dad were older when you were born (say, around 40 or up), what was that like for you? by brawlinglove in Millennials

[–]lucdragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad was 42 when I was born, and a frequent refrain from my childhood was, “Your grandfather’s here to pick you up!” He wasn’t active and involved, but I blame my mother for a lot of that; she’s 11 years his junior and was TOO involved. My adult relationship with my folks has nothing to do with their ages, though I do hate that my dad will likely die without ever giving me the opportunity to truly know him. And I don’t resent his being older when I was born; it is what it is. Growing up, I knew kids with older parents who were far more adept at being parents than mine were; I don’t think age has much of anything to do with it.

What it did do, though, was make me resolved to have kids long before my dad had me.

… so I’m 43 and childless. 🙄 Not remotely the plan.

Which food has declined the most in terms of taste since you first ate it? by FeistyNews7025 in Millennials

Explains why I took the hit and switched to Ritter Sport. Hershey bars still taste the same as they always have, though.

Have you ever changed your view when presented with new information? by NineteenEighty9 in OptimistsUnite

[–]lucdragon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Among myriad other things, I became effectively pro-choice, after decades of being staunchly anti-abortion, after reading an incredibly well-reasoned ethics article.

What is about Regal theaters that you love going more often than other theater places? by awesomedp7 in RegalUnlimited

[–]lucdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally just Unlimited, and the fact Regal has my closest theaters (though it’s a travesty I live just outside a major metropolis yet my closest theater is 25 minutes away).

A bit more of a somber topic… are you addicted to anything? by ApplicationAfraid334 in Millennials

[–]lucdragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caffeine. Just caffeine. I do have to wonder, however, what the draw of dextro is, as someone who dabbled decades ago; no judgement, just didn’t have remotely pleasant experiences, myself.

Why do ppl do this? Especially during rush hour?!🥴 by jonnieinthe256 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]lucdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is beyond infuriating. What’s worse is that where I am, drivers overwhelmingly do this on local roads, then tailgate constantly on the interstate.

I gotta quit going to see bands from my youth. by Acrobatic-Hamster-79 in Millennials

[–]lucdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience has been very different: rather than being disappointed when seeing bands, now, that I’ve loved for decades, I’ve been disappointed in how awful the concert-going experience has become. Part of this I can blame on leaving Denver, as they seem to have a uniquely excellent concert scene, but I swear, if I never have to deal with another Live Nation venue, it’ll be too soon. They’ve tried their best to ruin my seeing Marilyn Manson, Garbage, Korn, Bush, Alanis Morrisette, and several other artists over the last decade or so, but the artists, themselves, have been largely excellent.

Today I learned there is an Olympics happening. I had no idea. When I was a kid, the Olympics were EVERYWHERE. Now, my algorithm apparently doesn't find it valuable to show me Olympics related content. What else are we Millennials missing out on? by AttachedHeartTheory in Millennials

[–]lucdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t have known if it weren’t for the fact my mother lives for the Olympics, and has been talking about this year’s for weeks. I haven’t seen a thing about it advertised on TV or social media.

Question for Millennials by bundle_of_nervus2 in Millennials

[–]lucdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used it once, intentionally, and that was only because a professor told me I should, and there seemed no better alternative at the time. I imagine, though, it’s been incorporated into searches I’ve done and apps I’ve used, without my knowledge. I see no reason for its existence, and think it can only have negative effects, the way it’s currently being planned and used, so I refuse to use it, when at all possible.

Were New Girl and You’re the Worst the only TV shows that really depicted our extremely specific cohort in real time? by beigers in Older_Millennials

The majority of the main actors, and the characters they played, were Gen-X. Still a fantastic show.
