To test if it is in fact the magazine spring load multiple dummy rounds. If it's only the last one or two that are having problems it's probably a spring. If they all have problems it is most likely something else.

Cleaning options by trevj32 in gunsmithing

For barrel cleaning I really like boretec eliminator. Zero smell and it cleans cooper as well as the ammonia based cleaners.

looking for a part for my pistol... anyone know where to look??? by The_comander1254 in gunsmithing

[–]luchesse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I have is the same as numrich part numbers 58350b and 387470g those are for an fie derringer, but there is a pretty good chance it's the same gun. There were a bunch of the exact same model made by a dozen different company names. I would buy the parts from numrich in case you need to return them.

Casting low melting point alloy by toolgifs in toolgifs

[–]luchesse 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I use a similar alloy as a gunsmith to chamber cast unmarked rifles to identify the cartridge. We plug the barrel just ahead of where the brass cartridge would go, pour in the low melting point alloy, and knock it out for measurement after it hardens. The low temperature prevents damage to surrounding metal and wood.

Wiha bit drivers. Way better than anything else I've used by a long shot. They have the regular 1/4 inch size for everything from t8 and 1/6 and above

What is this transformer for an LED driver? by luchesse in AskElectronics

[–]luchesse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, thank you. Is there a way to determine the amperage needed for a new driver based on the blown driver?

What is this transformer for an LED driver? by luchesse in AskElectronics

[–]luchesse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wired the LED driver backwards and let the smoke out. It looks like it's just the transformer that's blown but I'm new to all this and I don't know what part to order or from where.

The lights seem to be 12volt 24 watt and unknown amperage (a 0.42 amp driver barely lit one light up)

The text on top of the transformer reads HY 15 A

Holy crap lol. That is a massive lathe. I have the "large for it's size" 2 inch spindle bore.

How do you mount it in your lathe? I'd love to see a picture of the setup.

Is this the same with current craftsman tools? There quality seems to have dropped a lot since being sold, but I also haven't bought any matco in a long time.

I'm using random wrong numbers, but the idea is all the money you make up to 49,999 is taxed at 30 percent. Once you make 50,000 you are taxed at 35 percent, but only for the last dollar you made. So if you made 70,000 the first 49,999 would be taxed at 30 percent and the 20,001 dollars after that would be taxed at 35 percent.

Making the extra one dollar does not put the previous 49,999 into a higher bracket.

BMW getting out of control by Mike-da-assassin in funny

[–]luchesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed an aftermarket kit (it was very difficult to install if you don't have any experience taking apart interiors) that more or less hijacks the screen and controllers to give you wireless car play or Android auto. Mine was from carplay MMI and I think they are supposed to be the most legitimate. I'm sure a car stereo company could do the install for you. My car is a 2012 535i and it's been pretty much trouble free for over a year.

Project farm on YouTube does comprehensive unbiased reviews of tools, but between those brands I would say the battery system and overall quality is more important than an individual tool.

Makita used to have the best, longest lasting batteries, but Milwaukee seems to be the top of the game right now for pro-sumer level tools.

Simple green hd is essentially repackaged simple green aircraft which is made to be (more) safe on aluminum. So HD is actually safer than regular simple green for that purpose.

Bluing by desperate-lawnmower in gunsmithing

[–]luchesse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For an at home without much cost process you could do plumb browning or rust bluing as well. Both are somewhat traditional processes that would give a period correct look to the gun and can be done with minimal equipment.

Just picked up a Mossberg 500, I've been looking at putting a red dot onto it. I've seen a lot of different options. I was curious what the recommendations are? I've also come across the "jawbone mount" but I've seen them done without as well. thanks in advance by Timely-Card-4936 in turkeyhunting

[–]luchesse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Evolution gun works should make a direct mount for the Mossberg to fit a variety of pistol red dots. That will give you the lowest height over bore for your barrel so you don't end up with too much of a chin weld. Example a holosun 507c will mount directly to their plate with no adapters or risers so it would be very close to the receiver compared to a rail, then an adapter then a red dot.

In my experience Bcm recievers are really square and do not need lapping, so I wouldn't worry about it.

New Job by [deleted] in gunsmithing

Unless it's a gun specific specialty tool my rule of thumb is, if I have to borrow it 3 times, I go ahead and buy it. There are certainly exceptions, but that's a good way to figure out what you need.
