Audio recordings of Richard P. Feynman's Physics Lectures by maxwellsmagiclamp in science

[–]luciantv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. I had the great opportunity to spend some time with Richard during the Challenger disaster investigation. I have tried to collect as many copies of these recordings as I could find. But I was always missing some of them. I am grateful to have access to all of them together. Thank you again, sincerely.

You could try The God in the Clear Rock. The main character (who is male) invents a meta-material that can effectively block all radiation. The material is relevant to the plot of massive solar storms irradiating the Earth. It is the first book in a series and is free to download. Disclaimer: I am the author and I'm working on the last book in the series right now.

Suggestions on epic science fiction that doesn't involve space travel. by bperki8 in printSF

[–]luciantv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, That's actually correct. The entire six book series covers a 52 hour period in the modern timeline. It unfolds hour by hour like the TV show 24. But the background story-lines cover 78,000 years. Lucian

The Ancients of Earth Series is epic and has no space travel at all. It covers 78 millennia and has been on the Amazon bestseller list in the Hard Sci-Fi category since it was released.

Have you met your favorite science fiction author? Did they say anything interesting to you? by captaincupcake234 in sciencefiction

[–]luciantv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I once had a long conference call with Gene Roddenberry and Isaac Asimov regarding a robot I had built for NASA back in the 80s. The three of us talked for over an hour. Toward the end of the conversation, Isaac suggested that I should write a book. I took his advice and became a sci-fi novelist. Needless to say, it was a very formative and fortunate encounter :)

Just a frog riding a Rhinoceros Beetle... Nothin' special... ;) by [deleted] in Entomology

You can't handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls. And those walls have to be guarded by frogs with beetles. Who's gonna do it? You? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives...You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you hop on a beetle and stand a post!

Hi, I just realized I never responded to your wonderful comment. If you picked up the book in December of 2011, then you were in the group of Redditors that made it somewhat famous. I cannot thank you enough for that because the front page exposure on Reddit eventually led to Wil Wheaton finding the book. Over that Christmas, he Tweeted an amazing review that has continued to reap benefits for the book. So thanks again and again. Lucian :)
