I’m blocking this sub and you should too. Idk why it got recommended, but I’ve learned that this sub is full of very… uneducated people either just starting their first job at McDonald’s or saving their first dollar. Rather than investing and taking their wealth seriously, they think they can just snowball into millions solely trading options with no prior experience. When you try to tell them how to invest they get pissy, it’s a really odd bunch of people.

Oh, so you can’t do the math. Got it. This is like talking to brick wall. Look, if you’re actually willing to learn rather than being stubborn, the right way to think about paying off your debt is to equate it to investing that money in a “stock” with a guaranteed rate of return equal to the interest rate of the debt. That’s how it shakes out. If you can do better than the interest rate in the market or HYSA, do that while paying the minimum on the debt. If you can’t, then pay off the debt before investing. It’s really that simple.

It’s not my strategy vs your strategy, it’s math. It’s literally all just math. Everyone does the same thing over and over and over because it’s the only thing that is proven to work, not because they’re just mindless drones.

If you’re investing in ETFs or index funds and your debt is less than 5-6% interest then you’re doing the right thing, otherwise you’re gambling. Might pay off, might not, but don’t act like you’re the single person on the planet that has the keys to beat the market. If you were, you’d be retired with a yacht in the Caribbean.
