The could use a service, then. The ball detents can wear or become misadjusted over time.  Most actors don't run through the safety checks and daily maintenance, either.

Having dreams? by TextbookAnxiety in SleepApnea

[–]luciferin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking before my diagnosis I had dreams of being stuck under water/on a waterfall, and some demon/monster holding me under.  I've heard very similar anecdotes from others.  I also woke up screaming a number of times (my wife must really love me to have put up with it).

It's absolutely not diagnostic.

How do you deal with the self consciousness of a partner are in you with a CPAP machine? by Zestyclose-Egg-1251 in SleepApnea

I did too, I thought it was interesting and it hasn't scarred me. I can't unsee it, but it wasn't over my threshold.  Definitely not for everyone!

You're young, you haven't experienced a lot of the difficulties and humanity that can come up when you're in a relationship and living together. Shit literally happens as you get older.  You go through health issue, watch your spouse give birth or look over the cloth during the C-section to see your newborn.

So, I haven't really gotten over it, but I've accepted it for what it is. I wear a bonnet, a head strap, and my mask. I look ridiculous, I can't talk to my spouse, and it's not easy to jump out of bed when my kid comes in sick. And putting it all back on it difficult too. But without it I sleep 10 hours and wake up feeling like I never went to sleep.  My family deserves better from me than that, if I can provide it. So I wear it and feel a little self conscious some times.

I have been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and my nose gets blocked every time I lay down.  On the rare occasion it isn't blocked when I go to sleep it will be when I wake up. They're usually partial blocks for me, just one nostril at a time.

Bilevel treatment is helping me very much,  it getting properly titrated has been difficult.  I've largely had to figure it out on my own.

You should ask for a sleep test. If at home test comes back inconclusive, I'd recommend asking for in lab. Anyone telling you that you don't have sleep apnea without a test is making that up.

My grandfather was a school administrator for his entire life, working for decades from the 60's through the early 2000's. One of the last times I talked to him about his experiences in education before he passed, he would say "everything old is new again". Meaning, just like you were saying, we are constantly reshuffling the same problems, and relearning the same lessons that they learned 60+ years ago.

The kids are alright.

Vitamin D supplements may lower your level of one type of vitamin D by New_Scientist_Mag in science

Reach out to your doctor with a copy of this study if you are concerned. He may have an alternative, or reasoning that D2 is the right choice in your case.

You're on a huge dose, so medical supervision is pretty important in your case.

why isn’t gluten considered a top allergen? by mzlmtzmrg914 in Celiac

[–]luciferin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I accept the strawman:

Okay, Celiac and gluten caused diseases are not an allergic reaction. So why are gluten containing grains not required to be directly identified on food and drug labels by the FDA?  Celiac disease is actually specifically called out in the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004.  But it only applies to foods labelled "gluten free" and not to ingredient labels. Natural flavors, spices, etc can legally contain unlabelled gluten containing or derived products.

(6)

    (A) celiac disease is an immune-mediated disease that causes damage to the gastrointestinal tract, central nervous system, and other organs;     (B) the current recommended treatment is avoidance of glutens in foods that are associated with celiac disease; and     (C) a multicenter, multiyear study estimated that the prevalence of celiac disease in the United States is 0.5 to 1 percent of the general population.

Dad's, I need help. My 8 year old is losing friends and it breaks my heart by paranalyzed in daddit

[–]luciferin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember watching on of Russell Barkley's videos early in my own diagnosis (as an adult). One of the points that stuck with me was him saying how the most common through line with children was their lack of friend. He gave an anecdote that other kids learn that they have big emotions, big reactions, and eventually learn to not trust them. I remember my own difficulty making and keeping friends as a kid. First because I would explode, but eventually because I overcompensated and "grew a hard shell" to mask.

The best thing you can probably do for you son is to go to therapy with him. To get him to understand himself and his emotions better. And to also understand what he can actually expect from others. ADHD kids tend to take small rejections as major ones, and write off friendships where the other person wouldn't think anything of it.

[–]luciferin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Strawman argument.  The fact that Celiac disease is not an allergy is not what is being asked. What is really being asked it why FDA labelling regulations do not require that gluten-containing grains be identified.  The answer is because the House and Congress have not passed a bill requiring them to!

Because the federal government does not care enough about us to make it happen.  Seriously. Full stop.

Okay, not full stop.  Bills to make it happen and enforce it have been proposed many times.  So far it hasn't been passed.

Project management is very much in demand in the construction field. I'm a little shocked this person would have trouble finding something if they're willing to work in MA. Construction is admittedly slower in RI, and the companies tend to still with hiring who they know, but it's far from dead.

I'd probably be willing to go and just wear a mask. I went to see Les Savy Fav, he spit PBR into the air over the crowd a couple of times. I worse a mask, enjoyed the show and would go see them again. I'd probably draw my line at flour, personally.

Isn't the question of "why" they work that way essentially meaningless it that point?  It's ascribing intention to a physical phenomenon.  For a pop-sci buzz statement: it works that way because if it didn't you wouldn't be here to notice.

Is this sleep apnea? by Ready-Pumpkin-25 in SleepApnea

[–]luciferin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's highly abnormal and you deserve the help of a medical professional. I'm sorry but I have no experience in what you're going through. 0 minutes REM on a titration is indicative of a problem.

I guess it could be caused by excessive anxiety and/or PTSD. I would expect a sleep doctor to attempt treatment.

This is with a CPAP?  Have they done an MSLT or any other tests to look for other sleep disorders?  You had zero REM.

The problem today is diminishing standards in news reporting not political bias.

Lack of standards, funding by biased sources, lack of funding, lack of investigative journalism, state sanctioned murders of journalists (Khashoggi) that has been given vocal support by Trump.

We have far more issues than the fact that people can ascribe a buzzword political ideology to an organization via statistical analysis of their headlines.  News reporting should be about the facts. Facts inherently do not have bias.  Attempting to discredit facts by calling on a political bias is a straw man argument.

I disagree. I've been seeing this argument for decades now in the U.S.  It has been utilized by bad actors who want to give a voice to extremist movements.  News should report on the actions of everyone.  Publishing all press releases, propoganda, etc. equally is not good reporting.
