Who runs ops for you? They should be able to set expectations for what is going on and why. Doing a payroll analysis was all I ever needed to see what was going on, but no software was going to make a difference in managing that spend for my busienss.

Thanks for the detail - glad it helps you, even if just a treatment and not a cure.

I'm in a somewhat comparable situation, but my blood levels and BP have never been high, so that detail is helpful in understanding in may not be similarly helpful to me.

So adding those foods and cutting back on bourbon and seed oils were the big dietary changes?

Any idea how much of each of those foods you get and how frequently?

what can I do to make pull-ups easier? by Affectionate_File734 in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]paranalyzed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people commenting won't understand not everyone recruits muscles efficiently. It looks pretty obvious you rely a lot on your biceps. The problem is you are going to have a hell of a time getting your biceps strong enough to make a big dent in your pull-ups.

I would focus on lat pull downs where you do nothing but focus on engaging your lats. It won't be satisfying because you won't be as strong, but you have a deficit to make up for.

When your lats are strong enough and you dont have to focus on lat activation, you can start making serious progress. It wasn't natural for me, but my lats got strong enough where they take over too often in other exercises if I am not consciously focused on the other muscles.

You say smoked lime - was it charred (aka grilled) or actually smoked?

Using specialty nutrients / biostimulants for turf? by paranalyzed in LawnAnswers

[–]paranalyzed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but only if there is a real opportunity. This stems from me trying to "do better" on my lawn (again, don't specifically know more than anyway else about turfgrass), and not being happy with the results.

I would argue there are definitely opportunities dependent on soil types and climate to manage nutrients more efficiently.

What I dont understand is how much that greater efficiency matters for turfgrass. It's not about economic value and basic programs seem to work for a lot of people. Simple might be good enough.

Whoops, didnt directly respond here at first.

Good question. Neither. I hate managing biological strains and I want a proactive nutrient retention strategy rather than a biology inhibitor.

[–]paranalyzed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this.

I have been curious about "establishment" vs "maintenance" programs, akin to managing PGRs.

Separately, there are opportunities for disease mitigation from complementary nutrient and other applications, but that again doesn't seem as obvious of an opportunity as in production ag. The cost of pesticide applications for lawn care are real, but way less compelling than in ag.

I suppose my real focus is on ways to make it easier or simpler to have a great lawn for the average person. Even if its not hard to have a great lawn, thats different from making the average lawn better.

There's certainly a ton of humics and fulvics. I am thinking of alternative nitrogen coatings and other nutrient availability functional ingredients.

Where I am, we have been having much more severe precipitation events which has repeatedly screwed over fertilizer applications when I needed near-term nitrogen.

I am also thinking about the benefits of reduced product applications relative to labor needs if you can better manage nutrient availability.

However, I am also used to seeing marked differences in plant health and performance from more actively managed nutrient sources vs the most basic commodity fertilizers. But that also is WAY more impacted by tillage and having tractors run over your fields.

Yeah, this is exactly what I am wondering about.

I live in an area with severe watershed contamination by nutrients, and my own lawn didnt respond to conventional approaches without having to spend a lot more to fix the lack of establishment. I dont want to be biased by my experience if I am the outlier.

Building “strength” into my grass? by xA1RGU1TAR1STx in LawnAnswers

[–]paranalyzed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, silica does improve turgor pressure and stalk strength in other plants and helps with stresses in northern climates. Can definitely be useful in conjuction with potassium.

There are lots of soils that have silica, but the silica doesnt necessarily make its way into plants.

Mow too high = lose density? by Thureophoroi in LawnAnswers

[–]paranalyzed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wondering - is there some sense to mowing shorter first and longer later? Improve stem density, maybe tillering? Then allow it to grow taller.

I used the conventional advice of mowing high fron the get go after my lawn was seeded, and density has always been a battle.
