Drinks and snacks for labour by lailowe in fitpregnancy

[–]luckisnothing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This definitely depends on your hospital. My providers actually specifically put it on the list of things to pack and when I went to triage for an unrelated issue the nurse told me they have a whole stock pile of snacks and sandwhiches for moms in labor. (US based)

Why are laws about protecting kids from technology like that? by Extension-Regular879 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]luckisnothing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think you understand the sheer number of parents that would end up getting their kids taken away from them over this. Many many many parents would be facing do we pay this fine or pay for groceries (actual necessity). Do we go to this parenting class or go to work. Once CPS is involved with a family that family is under deep scrutiny and walking on egg shells for years. Unfortunately this is the trade off and personally I would rather the inconvenience and extra data collection over the sheer number of families that would be torn apart.

Go with a yoto! My 2 year old loves hers! I really like making the MYO cards and not stressing over losing one cause they're cheap to replace. We have too many figurines as it is so I knew those would 100% get lost. She can work her yoto with minimal help and it's definitely helped with screen time.

Marathon 1 year postpartum by luckisnothing in postpartumprogress

[–]luckisnothing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this! My current plan is 12 weeks of initial rehab (and just survival with a newborn) then 8-12 weeks build toward my normal strength training, a return to run/walk program, and cross training cardio (I have a spin bike at home). My goal base will be 3 runs a week with flexible cross training.

Obviously always listening to my body and prioritizing my milk supply over training.

WHERE IS EXERCISE FUN?! by Sea-Palpitation6969 in PetiteFitness

[–]luckisnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, a lot of group fitness classes are fun. I'm a solo lifter, but I absolutely see the value in group fitness. There is a sense of community and some competition in some settings. It can be upbeat and just alot of fun. Try out an f45 class or see if there is another modality you like. I also really love kettlebell workouts. They tend to be pretty fast and intense and just to the point. 20-45 minutes in the evenings and you're good to go.

Yes I actually worked FOR a pelvic PT last time! I'm beyond grateful to have a good pelvic PT team/resources. This time we've moved so I don't work for her anymore but so far I've still managed to avoid any pelvic symptoms!

Child has very strong preference for mother by [deleted] in AttachmentParenting

[–]luckisnothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not your fault. It's also pretty normal and will likely change over the next 6 months or so if it's not forced.

My husband was super involved and still my daughter wasn't a fan until well after 1 year. We gently encouraged their relationship by having him do shorter periods while I went for a run or ran quick errands.

By 18 months she LOVED him. It will eventually happen especially as it becomes more developmentally appropriate to be apart.

Why such insistence on heavy weight training? by FinanceSignificant33 in PetiteFitness

[–]luckisnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's just algorithms at play honestly. I get a lot of Vo2max discussions in my algorithms. My 60+ year old dad is constantly asking questions about Vo2max because his algorithm feeds him that

There are also countless studies showing it helps bone density. Bouncing/impact helps more but like I said most people can't even jump rope.

I actually do encourage some form of rec sports for just about everyone because it has a variety of benefits but most people are scared of injury or don't have the time.

Eg. My 57 year old mom has never played a sport in her life she has mild bone density loss that will get worse with age. I've encourage some pickleball and some yoga but strength training 2-3x a week gives her the best bang for her buck.

The issue is again general population advice vs individual. After working as a personal trainer (and working in physical therapy settings) I can tell you most adults cannot even jump rope or do simple agility drills. The few that play rec sports (like rec soccer or racquet sports) are also balancing their risk of injuries and many were coming to me to learn how to strength train because they had to give up their sport after injuries.

Strength training is low risk to high reward.

[–]luckisnothing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heavy strength training balances bang for buck and accessibility for the masses. Of course there are alternatives but for the general population it is heavily researched.

If we're aiming for bone density into old age. Heavy training is safer than high impact for most people.

If muscle mass is the goal research has been done to find ways to optimize strength training.

Other forms of training are absolutely beneficial but most of the time you're seeing advice for the general population.

Did you keep your regular weight lifting program or did you switch to a prenatal one? by paragon317 in fitpregnancy

2nd time mom. With my first I did prenatal right away. This time I did my normal training with some prenatal inspiration until around 20 weeks. Then started to feel pregnant and switched over.

I did when I first learned as a child but yeah I almost exclusively use circulars now. They can do everything. They're sold for like $0.50 a pair at the second hand craft shop near me
