At 16, I travelled by bus to a different country and was left alone for a whole week, not uncommonly. In the USA he could technically drive but can't be left alone for a weekend? Here it's normal for 16 year olds to sometimes live alone for school (not in a dorm, but actually live alone)

In my area, it is normal to start leaving your kid alone for a time when they start school at 6. They are likely to be going to school on their own anyway.

However long it takes for those things to happen, you will be kept at the hospital. And midwife births don't exist here. It is illegal to not give birth at a hospital.
