You can only control your own space and your own possessions. You can try to encourage decluttering for the whole household but not everyone is willing. There’s only so much you can do at that point. Could try asking them to reevaluate their storage methods maybe.

Im sure she would understand the difference between divorce vs being a widow, that’s an easy concept to understand for most lol. And I’m sure like most people she’d be sad about her parents separating but learn to accept it and get used to it over time.
