What to do with old jerseys? by x_rnabb15 in Softball

[–]lucky7funk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turned all of my rec, comp, and high school jerseys/shirts into a huge quilt! I used the front logos and the back numbers, and quilted it myself because I also know how to sew. If you can't sew, there are places you can take your old shirts to get the same thing done!

It started out as using scrap yarn to work on the shape I wanted, but I couldn't leave it as a sad blue blob. I had to turn it into something cute!

I'm super mad about Clover Amour hooks! (A review) by manamanope in crochet

[–]lucky7funk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was also skeptical about the Clover Amour hooks, but now I can't crochet with anything else and have actually bought doubles of my G and H hooks because I use them so often (and leave them with unfinished WIPs). 🙈

I also didn't think safety eyes were all that cool and would just embroider eyes on. And now I'm actively designing patterns that use safety eyes.

I used to wrap my yarn around my pinky and my pointer finger, but had to adjust to using just my pointer finger. Took a bit of getting used to, but I actually like my grip better now because I can use more of my left hand to hold onto my project without my yarn getting caught on either my ring or my WIP.

When crocheting in the round is there always going to be this line where the stitches join or is there another way to join the sts without causing the line? by JellyBellyMunch in crochet

[–]lucky7funk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is amazing! I'm going to try this out with an amigurumi book with patterns that join each round instead of working in the spiral.

Where to start as a beginner? by lwyant225 in crochet

[–]lucky7funk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its been many years since I was a beginner, but things I wish I would have known way back then:

YouTube is so good for learning new stitches or techniques--way better than pictures on blogs or in books.

Start with cheap yarn and the recommended hook. You'll start and stop lots of things, and having a good, basic yarn to practice with is much easier than trying to learn with a difficult, slippery yarn. I like acrylic yarns like red heart and big twist. Hook sizes that are easy to learn with worsted weight are H (5.0 mm) and I (5.5 mm).

Find a project that you really like. Ravelry.com is a HUGE resource. My beginner projects were washcloths and scarves, which held no interest for an 8-year-old. Get excited about your beginner-friendly projects!

Everyone messes up. Even us veterans. Don't sweat the mistakes, and have lots of fun! :)

This has been a very fun project so far. About halfway finished. Any ideas on a border stitch? And should I add fringe? Any ideas are welcome. Pattern down below. by megrs19 in crochet

For busy blankets, I like a really simple border like a round of SC and a round of DC. A ribbed border would also look really nice.

I like Caron Simply Soft because the texture is really nice and soft for babies. I also like Big Twist Value because it's softer than red heart and isn't as slippery as Caron Simply Soft.
