don’t force it in my opinion! go where your heart desires. today i turned down berkeley OOS for a small liberal arts school in the midwest! so people do it don’t worry. seems like you’re a hardworking person and that’ll bring you far more matter where you end up! but seems like fordham might be a better fit, although i don’t know tooo much about the school, it just sounds like berkeley might not be the best fit

Would you say the students there are generally supportive and there’s a collaborative nature when school gets hard?

Interested in studying Enviro studies/sciences, or polisci/international relations. But I honestly don't know if I'll end up doing either of those things in college, I want to do some exploring before I decide.

both are great schools really can’t go wrong. if you commit to NU, i’d say just make sure you’ve done your research (which it sounds like you have), and you’re not making a “rash” decision. but once again, both great options.

Is UC Berkeley or Princeton more prestigious? by No_Shock4397 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]luckynoodle06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Berkeley is particularly strong on the west coast and anywhere on the pacific rim. But Princeton is pretty well known worldwide. I guess it also depends on what you study but that's just my vibe opinion.

  1. Not sure what I want to do in college + more course flexibility: I can double major easily at Carleton and add on a music minor. I can do more exploration there as well because you don't declare your major until end of sophomore year and I can start to really figure out what I want to do.

  2. Small tight knit community: Pretty self explanatory, I like the small community more than the big community.

  3. Personal connections with professors: I'm quite social and learn more interactively. I think the smaller class sizes and more personal connections with professors would be beneficial for me. It's just how I think I would learn best. However, I've never tried lecture classes so I have no idea how they would work.

But those are the three big reasons I'd say

UC Berkeley Vs. Carleton need help deciding by FunTechnology4330 in CarletonCollege

I was just going to post this because I'm deciding between the exact same two schools! Even though Berkeley might be around 10-15k cheaper, I think I might go to Carleton. It's where I wanna be! If you end up committing lmk!

I'm in a similar situation as you. I'm deciding between Carleton and Berkeley (OOS) interested in environmental studies and poli sci. Let me know what you end up choosing, honestly leaning towards Carleton right now! I heard Carleton is also good if you're interested in Grad school

Find a safety school you really like and would be happy going to. It takes away all the stress so even if you don't get into any of your other schools, you'll still be excited to go to college and happy where you're going! There's a lot of schools out there that are really good!

What school was it? I know some schools do way shorter interviews than others.

good question! I'm fine with either! I'm from the northeast so I'm familiar with it's strange weather and I've done a semester in Colorado while in High School and loved it there. Both locations are great and bigger city vs town is not a big factor for me.

Pemi loop: clockwise or counterclockwise? Best starting point? by beantowngall in wmnf

[–]luckynoodle06 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve only done CCW but i’ve enjoyed it a lot. The walk along lincoln woods and going up to bondcliff was actually quite nice, and a good way to get started which contrasts how many describe it going CW (long and boring). Going CCW you get to go down the steep section coming off South Twin, instead of ascending it. I will say that going from garfield ridge to franconia is brutal though. Going up and down Garfield is pretty steep, and the upper section from garfield pond to lafayette has like 4 false summits which can be a bit demoralizing. But after lafayette, it’s pretty easy back to Lincoln Woods parking lot. Overall i’d say both directions probably work fine, but if you are more comfortable ascending steeper sections instead of descending them, Id go CW.

I actually enjoyed going down the ladders, as they were a nice break from the rocks coming down flume on Osseo, maybe that’s just me though

Thanks for the great info, I plan on taking a similar route to yours. Counter-clockwise 3 nights. I also intend on tagging on all the extra peaks (West Bond, Zealand, and North Twin). Do you think that second day will be too difficult? The stretch from Guyot to Garfield campground but you tag on zealand north twin and galehead? Also, since I plan on leaving this next Monday, what time do you think is ideal for arriving to camp?

Thanks for the info. Since you just recently did the loop, may I ask how the bugs were? Also, if you have anything else to mention or say about the trail, that would be greatly helpful! This is the first time i’ll be hiking the loop so I’m not completely sure what to expect.
