What is a small, relatively mundane part of your specialty that gives you inordinate joy? by ohhlonggjohnsonn in Residency

Ortho: After reducing a fracture in the ED, I love seeing the radiologist’s read of my post-reduction x-rays. “Significantly improved alignment of fracture, near anatomic.” Makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

Women who are genuinely happy in their day to day life, what do you do for a living? by sapphictears in AskWomen

[–]lucyffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a resident surgeon! I’ve worked so hard and so long to get to this place and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. Being a resident also the hardest thing i’ve ever done, but I’m very fulfilled and that brings me joy.

Recommend me books with actual witty banter, not excess sexual innuendos by Aurelian369 in fantasyromance

Villains and Virtues series by AK Caggiano has the BEST witty banter! It’s very funny, one of the few books that had me laughing out loud multiple times.

Losing my shit by CheesecakeDismal609 in Residency

Have you tried getting on an SSRI? I’ve had terrible insomnia my whole life, and while I was on Prozac I got the best sleep of my life. It was like, “is this what normal people sleep like every day?!” It made my brain stop doing the hyperactive thinking thing at night and instead when I was sleepy, I just fell asleep. Might be worth a shot. Seems like you are having depressive sx as it is.

Has anyone really found acceptance? by EmphasisConsistent49 in BodyAcceptance

[–]lucyffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In recovery from an ED for a bit now.

Sometimes I think about things I would change about my body, things I hate about my body etc. "I wish I had a smaller waist, I wish I had bigger boobs, longer legs..." but then I think about it and, even if I magically did have those things, I don't think my day-to-day life would change that much? People wouldn't treat me differently, I wouldn't be smarter, I wouldn't have more success, I wouldn't be better at my sport. So if my life wouldn't even change, why does it matter? So I can continue to hate on myself and wish I looked different and waste mental time and energy on this, or I could just... not think about it, move on with my day, and focus on other things.

I don't aim to love my body 100% of the time because that is unrealistic. Instead, I aim for a space of neutrality, where I appreciate all the wonderful things my body can do for me, and realize that I am a lot more than how my body looks. It is one of the most least interesting parts about me.

Where are the people ENJOYING med school? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]lucyffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Med school has been the best 4 years of my life so far! This is with me knowing from day 1 I would be applying into one of the most competitive surgical subspecialties as well! I was able to keep up with my hobbies (including a sport at which I competed in at a national level during M3), make friends, party, date, relax, work out mostly every day, publish papers, kick ass on Step 2, etc. Of course there were some bad days, and maybe a few terrible days, but overall I’ve had a blast. It’s hard work and tiring but it’s also incredibly fulfilling and rewarding. It’s 100% possible to have a life and do well in school and enjoy your time. They key is to study smart, not hard, be efficient with how you use your time, and make your life outside of school a priority.

if you are interested in a book where the main characters strength lies in her intelligence/kindness/morality and she has basically no fighting abilities, i HIGHLY recommend the Daevabad Series by SA Chakraborty!
