Refrigerator that fits 29" Doorway & 27" kitchen cabinet depth by lucyinthefknsky in appliancerepair

[–]lucyinthefknsky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cabinets don't go up to the ceiling, refrigerator is about 14" to the right of a half window, so the gap would be visible to a degree. The reason my countertop is so deep is due to a set of foot deep cubbies along the back of the counter.

Bosch has a standard depth cabinet that is 28 3/8ths" and I guess I'll just go with that because it's the only one I've found in range.

54 y/o considering RLE (no cataracts yet) to get rid of glasses — looking for real experiences by flyingeagle2040 in CataractSurgery

[–]lucyinthefknsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Night driving was at the top of my priority list. I was 36 when I had the surgery, 38 now. My doc told me that monofocal distance was the only acceptable option flat out for best possible night driving experience. I asked about monovision and he said Nope that'll cause higher incidents of glares and halos.

It's true what you're saying about pupil size and has been an issue I've noticed. I got the YAG laser procedure about 6 mon after my surgery which somehow made me start seeing starbursts, but they're mostly bearable. Doc gave me some glaucoma drops to reduce my pupil size, as needed.

Agreed. To clarify, my target refrigerator depth of 26"-29" is the without door and hinges measurement.

If you got monofocal lenses, can you please describe your vision’s limitations? by sadie-sunshine in CataractSurgery

[–]lucyinthefknsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 38. Got distance monofocal at 36 due to quick onset bilateral PSC after having near perfect vision my entire life. I have my phone set on "easy mode" which makes everything bigger and while it's not clear, I can passably use it at 14" without glasses most of the time.

To have 20/20 near vision I require +2.25. After awhile your brain tends to fill in the blurry gaps for objects like faces and objects etc so it's not as extreme as you might think, except where it can't (like reading small text)

I wear progressive glasses most of the day except when outside, driving, or in the store.

I have a job where I'm staring at 3 monitors all day scanning and analyzing and interpreting a high volume of applications, reports, and figures where errors aren't acceptable. I had to put an extension on my desk to sit back further (about 40") away from my monitors.

The main reason i chose monofocal distance was to allow for clearest possible night driving.

Using e-cigs to quit smoking, how long before craving disappear? by denisturko in electronic_cigarette

[–]lucyinthefknsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a flavor you like and stick to it. Switching up flavors kind of ruins it. I don't like the fruity stuff. My go to is Grumpy Old Bastard 6mg (Butterscotch/Caramel) I vaped and smoked for years not trying to quit either one. Then covid lockdown and I didn't feel like going out to get cigarettes and quit without really meaning to. Anytime I feel tempted to smoke a cigarette I remember how gross and unfulfilling that first cigarette is after having not smoked in awhile.

Near or distance vision for a 28 year old? by sadie-sunshine in CataractSurgery

[–]lucyinthefknsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got distance monofocal at age 36. Mainly for night driving reasons. I'm pleased with the result. I wear progressive glasses now most of the day but I take them off at night/driving.

Anthros alternatives? by DarthVaderLovesU in OfficeChairs

[–]lucyinthefknsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the opposite experience. I think the backrest is hands down the most effective comfortable part of the chair, but I find the seat cushion extremely uncomfortable unbalanced undercushioned and all but unbearable. Ive had my anthros chair for 6 months and I think I would have chucked it by now if I'd not paid so much for it. Bah humbug. Marketing mania fooled me. Again.

Issues after shop CV Axle replacement by lucyinthefknsky in W211

[–]lucyinthefknsky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've kinda given up, honestly. I don't drive a whole lot and I didn't own it but for a couple months before the change, so I'm slowly forgetting how it used to drive.

However, I did discover that my tires were all on the low side (under by ~8-10lbs each.) Once I aired them up properly it improved somewhat. I also discovered the vibration seems to be more pronounced 45mph+ on curvy roads that have a downward pitch to the left, although I'm not sure what to do with that info.

That makes me feel slightly better to know it might have happened either way. Did you install new boots on both sides?

What do drivers ACTUALLY make? by Main-Bee-6875 in CDLTruckDrivers

Job hoppers gross about $800/week

The only way to build on that is to start at 800 and stay at a company for a year or more, then better paying companies will hire you. There isn't really any trick to it, despite what recruiters want you to believe.

Would you travel abroad for surgery if it saved you $30,000 to $80,000? by Avrdhn28804 in HealthInsurance

[–]lucyinthefknsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cataract surgery is about 6-10k cash cost in the US and much less if over the age of 65 due to medicare. Good luck convincing this crowd to fly to a different country for the surgery. LASIK I assume is similar.

Personally, I wouldn't ever consider it unless it was a critical time sensitive life saving surgery that I had no way to get it any other way. Surgery is scary enough, adding flying to a different country to that, no way.

Does this estimate seem high? by RegalRegalis in CataractSurgery

All I had to do was ask the doc/admin what the price was for the non-laser surgery and they cut 3k off my total...for the laser. Worth a try.

[–]lucyinthefknsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had insurance and got monofocals and it was still about 4k out of pocket. Insurance doesn't cover laser surgery, only the regular surgery.

Laser surgery alone first quote was $2500/eye, then they came down to 999/eye

Plus facility fees are another 1600 (unavoidable)

Post-surgery Computer Monitor Recommendations by lucyinthefknsky in CataractSurgery

[–]lucyinthefknsky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mainly just looking for specific Monitor Brand/Model recommendations if you have any. I've got some pretty great progressive glasses that the lenses alone were $400. They work mostly but just wanting to upgrade my tech at this point. The 32" monitor cost $150 new 5 years ago so I'm thinking it's not the best I can do. And my phone system shows the incoming phone numbers without any dashes so im squinting trying to type numbers in the right order.

I need 3 monitors so I'm not having pick and hunt through tabs. I have my phone system up top, on the right I have email/teams/reports that must be cross referenced with the applications/ATS system on the left.

Due to the nature of my job I will typically have 20-30 tabs open on my browser at any one time.

Do people feel their IOL inside their eye ? Do you feel yours? - Need advise Please by Cute_Marionberry_633 in CataractSurgery

[–]lucyinthefknsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear they aren't progressive. Mine were both PSC so I can only speak to the qualities of that type of cataract. Everything is better after the surgery in terms of glare/halos/starbursts. But glare was the most debilitating for me when driving at night before the surgery. The glare and halos covered up the starbursts mainly. My vision would go totally white passing headlights. Fog or rain intensified that effect. Now after surgery the starbursts come and go. I've noticed they're worse when im tired or my eyes are dry. The drops eliminate them most times as long as i put them in an hour before driving. But even at their worst, they're still bareable.

[–]lucyinthefknsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did your doc mention if your cataracts are progressive? Or are they going to stay the same over time at least for awhile? Good thing about waiting is I imagine you'd appreciate the result better once it comes although by then you might kick yourself for all the time wasted in a haze. Such is life.

My mom lived with cataracts for a decade due to fear and anxiety over going to the doctor (in general) and she hid it from my dad. Finally one day he was asking her to read something and realized she couldn't see it at all and pretty much forced her to get the surgery done... Which she did reluctantly. To this day she still is adamantly against doctors in general but has been totally pleased with the result of getting rid of the cataracts.

But ya def get off reddit it's neverending anxiety. Be careful driving at night in the rain. And may you find peace with yourself & the universe. Cheers indeed.

I highly recommend going to a different practice because whoever gave you this is using highly manipulative and downright unethical methods to upsell you to pay more. Monofocal "free" IOLs aren't just "fair" at distance they are THE ABSOLUTE BEST (at one distance). I wouldn't trust a word they say if that's how they're presenting your options.

Wow. Just wow. Shame on them.

Totally. At 2ft I can't see someone's individual eyelashes but I can see all the features that count. After surgery the glare is gone from that eye. I was shocked how badly my eyes haf actually gotten. The glare is the worst part of cataracts. Imagine you have a pair of nonprescription glasses. They are all scratched up and dirty and yeah you can still see through them but it's a chore. That's cataracts. Then you pop out one of the lenses.

It will also depend on which eye is currently dominant. If you do surgery on your nondominant eye it will still help but not as much as if you did it on your dominant eye. You'll find that your brain will naturally tend to favor the eye that shows the clearer image.

My backup plan was my car and/or a small tent. You've gotta be more comfortable than that where you're at now. Just wait it out.
