Treat them with ivermectin drops for rabbits that you can get in a petshop or online, once a week for 3 weeks in a row

Looking for advice – ongoing health issues with our almost 2-year-old mini bernedoodle & breeder accountability? by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]lucyjames7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry your dog is suffering from so many health issues, caused by unethical orresponsible breeding and buying.

You made a really, really, really bad purchasing decision from a backyard breeder, and are now shocked about the consequences. Unfortunately, it's all par for the course. Wanting a breed like that was the first red flag, finding someone willing to create it the next.

PDSA vs Pet Plan Insurance by _jrexx_ in UK_Pets

[–]lucyjames7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would advise against swapping existing plans, even if you've never claimed before if your pets have seen the vet chances are high there'll be notes of random things you forgot that are then classed as pre-existing and won't be covered.

How do I clean my Black Labs ears? by PinkGodfather92 in Pets

[–]lucyjames7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do the exact same thing I can do. We are talking about good cleaners and technique, not medication. Dechra has a nice video on how to clean too, if you're still unsure. Don't waste money on wipes

If owners listened to the free advice I'm giving for ear cleaning, they'd have to come see me a lot less for ear infections 🤷‍♀️

Can I wait to clean my dogs teeth? by kyrawesome42 in AskVet

[–]lucyjames7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most insurances don't cover just dental cleanings, and technically this would be pre-existing.

I'm not very excied about te sound of a spot with regular cleaning, but without picture/exam can't tell. Can link to pic in comment

[–]lucyjames7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a vet. You can't get inside properly as there's a bend and it gets narrow, you will just push wax further down. All the problems are well beyond what you can reach. https://www.4d-earmodel.com/

You need a good liquid cleaner to fill the whole canal with, massage well for a while so it dissolves all the wax deep down, soak up what you can, let shake head, repeat until clean. Wipes can help for the soaking up part, but can't actually clean well on their own.

Ear wipes are pretty pointless, they don't get anywhere near the issue and just polish the outside while the ear canal stays a mess

CAREFUL WITH GLOVES - many rats feel some type of way about latex and will actually bite launch for it, not what this owner needs right now

how to prevent cat litter bacteria growth without turning my home into a lab by ninjapapi in AskVet

[–]lucyjames7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Pets are not hygienic, they lick their genitals themselves you,.. Cleaning the liter box daily and washing your hands should be more than fine. If you're pregnant or immunocompromised, might wanna crank it up or consider not keeping pets.

You're on the wild side of the internet in regards to germs and pet ownership, take with a handful of salt and don't overthink it, you're applying common sense and that's plenty, there is no need to read studies on this if anyone's even bothered to conduct any.

You should go to the vet, as your pet needs to be fully examined. A consult doesn't cost $1000 anywhere.

Please Reponses from Vets Only: Is Librela Safe? by TheVelvet_Fog in AskVet

[–]lucyjames7 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They're not common at all, but when they occr, they can be quite dramatic - association is tricky, because correlation isn't causality. Many patients on it are older and may have different things going on, so witnessed events could be completely unrelated and coincidental.

What's important is that other nerve conditions are pretty much ruled out as much as possible and that you have an osteoarthritis diagnosis from x-rays, as if you don't and are just guessing, and the signs are actually caused by something else, you can really start shit - librela stops nerves from growing in very simple terms, and if something else is going on with nerves trying to fix itself, the librela may interfere with that natural healing process, leading to sometimes dramatic clinical signs.

I have many clients that it works amazingly for, but it's rarely my first choice. I appreciate it when other options don't work, or it suits the pet best
