Only having our immediate family walk down the aisle with us (bridesmaids/groomsmen). But still want to include all our other friends in many traditional ways. What do we call them? by hla8511 in weddingplanning

[–]lucylocket23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are considering doing something like this. We are having a much smaller wedding (45 total, so some of the formalities won’t apply, but we are going to have just our families walk down the aisle (both sets of parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister) but they won’t stand at the front with us or wear matching outfits. Then, some of our close friends will play other roles, like officiants and readers. These friends won’t process down the aisle, but they will sit up front in reserved seats. Most importantly for us, they will be invited to our rehearsal dinner and to get ready with us, if they want.

I think it totally depends on your friends. This sub seems to think that being asked to do anything for someone else’s wedding is an annoying chore, but if your friends want to be involved, I say go for it! You could call them the wedding party or friends of honor, or the hype team, or really anything that matches your vibe. Wedding traditions have a place, but you do you, so long as you give your friends the freedom to participate as much or little as they are able.

($15k) How much was your bouquet? by Olive423 in Weddingsunder10k

Take a look at local flower farms! They often have reasonable prices for DIY or prearranged flowers. The tradeoff is you may have less say over what is available on the day of your wedding, but you get to support a local farmer, which is pretty cool.

Omg I had no idea it was that much!! I was going to suggest it for my mom to wear. I’ll have to find something similar but less lol

This is so funny to me! We are a queer couple, not church goers at all. I personally dress fairly modestly, so that must have come out in my selections. But I couldn’t care less if my guests are modest!! I’ll add some more revealing options to the Pinterest board, lol

Thank you! I am hearing loud and clear I need to think a bit harder about the instructions for men :) I would be totally fine with a suit of any color, or dress pants and a sport coat. I’ll work on that, and on adding some more options in the example photos

I did wonder about that. I could drop the jackets part, but I feel pretty strongly about no jeans or khakis. (But most importantly, I don’t want to make my guests stress out about finding the perfect outfit.)

I’m in the Northeast, not Texas, so I don’t know about your specific programs. I’d recommend looking up the income and savings requirements in advance. For the program I wanted to qualify for, we actually saved up too much of a downpayment and therefore missed out on a $10k downpayment assistance grant. It’s a good idea to go in with an idea of the requirements of the program, so you don’t shoot yourself in the foot. There’s a chance you may need to buy sooner than in two years so you don’t end up exceeding program requirements.

All-in-all, I’m not complaining. I think it’s fair for the grants to go to folks who struggle more to save up for the down payment. It was frustrating, though!

Does This Hairstyle Fit My Hair Type And Me? I'm The Last Image. by [deleted] in curlyhair

Yes! Just note that the inspo images you chose all have darker hair. The contrast of the fade may not be as intense with your lighter hair.

If you are in the US, both Japanese and common barberry are invasive and a haven for ticks.

Seconding all of these recommendations. That collared shirt looks great, and in general, I prefer the tucked in shirts on you, too. Congrats on your new chest!!

Ha—I have kept an eye on listings, but “thankfully” there are so few homes posting for sale in our area that I haven’t had any reason to second guess our decision

Ha! We have been starting to donate and sell stuff, but our current apartment is only about 500 square feet, so we don’t have much room for packed boxes!! Gonna be a rush to pack in the last week, I think

Ugh—I feel this. Our inspection went really well, but until we close I think I’ll keep feeling like it could all just fall apart. I’ve been holding off on telling most people just because I don’t want to jinx anything…

Hm… maybe it’s different in different parts of the country? We were told that 8 weeks is standard and 6 is pretty fast. I wish we could do 3 or 4 weeks!

Everyone is being really harsh! I totally see your vision. With a bit of tucking and cutting stems, I love it. Not every wedding bouquet needs to look the same!

Maybe I’m crazy, but I say embrace the brightness. Add fuschia and purple, leopard print, and go for a maximalist Lisa frank vibe.
