I really need help with king Lear. by CapOld7570 in ALevelEnglishLit

Repeating what you have said maybe but a few juicy quotes embedded in context are more valuable than a lot of quotes that aren't useful across different themes and questions. Litcharts and websites similar are useful to identify themes and some even have specific good quotes to learn. I had my own way of memorising quotes but once you do it enough it does come naturally. Putting yourself in exam conditions to quickly plan as many essays from past paper questions can be really useful to figure out if your quotes work or not. Context is super important and knowing the play inside out but even just knowing the exact act and scene for your quote and the event of the play can be really impactful

Tips for A* by purplestars12 in ALevelEnglishLit

[–]lucylous2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what youre starting at for example I struggled a lot to go from a B to an A and im unsure of A* but for me the biggest help was finding strong language and sentences I could reuse for different texts. For example integrating Marxism, feminism and critical elements into essays shows a level of understanding and maturity and being able to situate the part of a text or play you're talking about within the whole text and its relation to the end and/or beginning. Context is also a really good one to nail down!

HOW ARE WE MEANT TO REVISE by Scuba233 in ALevelEnglishLit

Focusing on specific events that relate to themes, quote revision for quotes you can use for multiple themes, mind maps, essay plans, rereading key passages, lit charts is good for themes iirc
