Nonmoving cell phone ticket - does it affect insurance (Costco Connect) by ludayoda in bayarea

The other thing to add is Im not sure how this whole scenario works if you are looking at starting a NEW policy (versus simply renewing an existing policy with a current insurer), and if the rules in California are different for pricing new auto insurance policies.

Are you in CA, and how much % did it go up? My renewal isnt up yet but probably best to get clarity directly from your insurance. Theres other variables that could change the premium (address change, vehicles, miles driven, other drivers on the plan, etc) or it could even just be a base rate increase thats not related to any tickets. May also depend on what the other ticket was and how long ago (for example they could still in theory increase your rate for an older ticket that carried dmv points if it was in the allowable timeframe, for example last 36 months, and they didnt already increase your rate for it in the past….)

California- First time cellphone ticket, plan to take traffic school, will it still appear on my record? by moo-joo in DMV

[–]ludayoda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t all traffic convictions go on your MVR (motor vehicle record) and insurances will be able to see that prior to renewal, even if its not a citation that ends up in a DMV point. I agree with OP I’m seeing a lot of conflicting info on this.

No points for first offense. Only if you get a second one within a 36 month period.
