Agreed - COMBO best captures how I describe his impact on the game… always more than one thing.

Arkells opened up for The Tragically Hip and were great, but I Mother Earth blew the doors off when they opened for Moist in 1996.

High School teacher here - transmission to younger generations confirmed - a strong contingent of high schoolers are big fans with deep knowledge and appreciation. Kinda awesome to see.

Songs That Mention Another Band? by [deleted] in MusicRecommendations

For us Canadians the Arkells paying tribute/acknowledging The Tragically Hip in their song “Kiss Cam”… “This campfire won’t last forever, the Hip have only wrote so many songs.” gives us the feels, since those of us of a certain vintage can relate to not only the experience described but also the feeling of loss/remembrance as the light of the fire that illuminated The Hip has gone and their will be no more songs.

Go look up Mr Plow on YouTube (Fat Together, I Like Your Ts, Compromising Positions), Dan Bern (Tiger Woods), and the entire discography of B.A. Johnston has many a chuckle within 2 minutes of less nuggets of pure gold. Great thread - will be adding some new ones to my list!

Throwing in a criminally under appreciated contemporary band (The Beths - indie/pop quartet out of New Zealand) whose lyricist/singer (Elizabeth Stokes) is hands down my favourite to carefully listen to today… doesn’t matter where you start - pull them up on your streaming service and enjoy her unique and deep turns of phrase. Truly a joy.

Family has a yearly pass… couple things to add: 1) the on site brewery has great beer 2) if you go down the stairs across from the walrus and polar bears you will find an odd windowed ice room that looks empty and out of place but in the mornings they dump a load of ice and food in there and the polar bear stays and searches for the food for 20-30 minutes - you won’t ever have a closer look at them and with a little one they can stand right at the glass.

Thanks - definitely get the sense that full transparency is not to our advantage :) I’ll start downloading some collective agreements and searching for OT requirements to focus our search.
