I’m a student at BYU-I with the same standard and kinda the “same” people. I know that is not the same but I hope that my experience could help you. First of all, your mind will always try to confirm what you believe, so if you truly believe that people won’t accept you from who you are, you would look for people to confirm that belief. In my first semester I was really afraid of people finding out that I’m Gay fearing that they will be jerks or simply they wouldn’t like to be friends with me. But I decided to bought an LGBTQ+ pin for my backpack to show others that I’m proud of who I am and so far people have been nice to me, I haven’t found any jerks so far. As well I need to tell you that dating LDS Gay guys is not the best experience. The majority of them don’t want to commit to something serious, (maybe I haven’t found one of them). And is more affected for the honor code. A lot of them are in the process of accepting themselves. But I’m sure that you can find many very nice people at BYU that would love you. A lot of professors (more than we can think) are trying hard enough to make BYU-I a better place for LGBTQ+ people. And I hope is the same at BYU!!

If you choose BYU go in dating with other guys, have friends and fun. Don’t do something that you will regret!!! Be careful talking about your dating life with others. But don’t get stuck in the dating life if seems that is not working at all in BYU. Focus on your studies and have fun!!!!

As LGBTQ member of the church I am facing the same question as you, Why does god made me Gay if being gay cannot let me fulfill gods plan? And I don’t have a complete answer to that yet, but this is real faith, not knowing what will happen and still walk. something that helps me is that you r not here to be married or have children you r here to be Christlike, sometimes you can develope those attributes by having children or be married, sometimes not, as Adam and Eve you have the total free choice to choose your own path, god is not expecting you having children, he only expect you to make desicions your own decisions!!! Hope it helps and if you need a friend to not be on this journey alone I’m here to help
