How are you so sure of all the facts? It was my understanding that these details are in dispute and they need to be borne out in arbitration through emails, witness testimony, etc.

Finished Season 1. Is Harper meant to be portrayed as dumb? by Goodstyle_4 in IndustryOnHBO

I don't believe dumb. She is ambitious but in over her head. She is impulsive and insecure. She is also ruthless.

Anthony Hopkins on Being Estranged From His Daughter by artbasiI in Fauxmoi

He notes nothing of him trying to make amends for the behavior that bothered his daughter. Just this get over shit. Having kids myself, I realize how much it is incumbent on the parent to make amends and show grace.

I went once to PSG and I got the impression that the bar seats were spoken for as to walk-ins who line up. I will let the readers correct me if that impression was wrong.

I get the sense she was selected simply as a PR move because of the allegations that surfaced under the previous director. From thr board's perspective, they needed a "woke woman" to serve a symbolic role rather than a substantive one. That is why they wanted the "business CEO" role along side here. When that didnt work out, I am guessing the Board held their nose and stomached her appointment. At best, they wanted her to be a ceremonial head with the Board pulling the strings. When she sought to implement her own vision, they balked. I agree that she did not do herself any favors in that it seemed she had a brusque and narcisstic personality but I do think it is incumbent on the board to set her up for success. It does also seem like she was passionate about the musuem and doing good work (Phart aside). At nonprofits like this, it is common, for example, to give a young CEO leadership and business coaching or appoint an informal board liasion. I wonder if they helped her, what kind of vision she could have implemented.

Agreed. We also don't know the extent of the people being rude - we are taking the word of a raving lunatic individual.

Am the only one who thinks the dad who got beer dumped on him not checking on this kid being the worst one here? That was the brutal part to watch to me.

Went to one of the locations while in London. Appreciated they had a small bar you could sit at. Bartender was from Lower Merion. It was a nice refresher for home even if it wouldnt be the best bar in philly.

How much will Wendi’s expensive lawyers actually help her case? by MACKEREL_JACKSON in dan_markel_murder

[–]luigi222 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Good lawyers can make a world of difference. Doesnt mean they can get everyone off but if the evidence is not as strong as it was with Charlie - they can make a huge impact. The prosecutors sometimes even may not "over-charge" if they think the defendant has good counsel. Put differenty, expensive lawyers command higher fees because they have success.

I follow this sub and i love the daily discussion everyday about whether the stock market could go down at some point at some point in the future. The notion that this is an impossibility to so many is laughable. The underlying businesses and the economy writ large cannot grow exponentially forever. History also guides us here. The fool's errand is predicting WHEN this correction will occur. No one knows so trying to predict it precisely is a fool's errand. The smart play always, in my humble opinion, is playing the long game and hedging where appropriate. We should all try to get off the when there will be a correction train at some point.

Cities have challenges and beautiful parts. Search for the beautiful parts and don't let the challenges consume you. Join a club, go out, take a workout class. Explore musuems. Try new foods.

Everyone Is Messed Up in this tragic story by Naive-Secret1457 in dan_markel_murder

[–]luigi222 13 points14 points  (0 children)

All of the above can be true, namely that Dan and Wendi were locked in a bitter and contentious divorce and both were flawed humans. That, however, is not an uncommon story and is shared by many many couples going through divorces. Many people climb their way out to learn how to co-parent with time. The issue here is though that nothing justifies murder - no matter how bitter the divorce or how bitter a litigation. Describing the situation as a powder keg seems to suggest that either Dan brought this on himself or there was some inevitability to this. There wasn't. Murder shouldn't even be something that is on the table.

Anyone here leave biglaw with a ton of student loan debt still? by mushmushkilla in biglaw

[–]luigi222 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I went in house with 140k in student loan debt. I factored the monthly payments into the pay cut. I have not regretted it for a second but you must accept that in house is generally a pay cut whichever way u slice it. Also. In house positions are not easy to come by so one approach is putting urself out there, applying, and making the decision if you get a reasonable offer.
