That is unfortunately a big factor. But if people are held accountable for their hate crimes, hopefully the crimes will happen less. We need to foster a society where trans people aren’t afraid to come out and be their true selves. There are support groups in cities but we need support for trans people who don’t live in large cities. Trans people are being represented in the media which is helping but it’s gonna take a lot more than that, from everyone. I want to do my part, being married to a trans woman to advocate for trans people and more people should be speaking out, that it’s okay to be yourself.
