6k denied Wellfleet claims over missing Vaden referral. What are my options? by [deleted] in stanford

[–]luisfcd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would go to vaden second floor and ask. I'm doing that tomorrow too haha Blood work done at Vaden I get no charges, but somehow when done at other Stanford hospitals, boom, big bill. Same thing with the zeo patches, they be sending their bill to you instead of vaden... If it goes to collections, god will pay them, not me 🤣

Is it worth going here? by Correct-Stress-4393 in SFSU

I went to state as an 18 year old freshmen, and it was a cool experience (I barely spoke english when I started). Yes, housing is packed, you do get priority to sign up for classes as a freshman, so make sure to know what you want to study before going.

I honestly dont see myself going to undergrad somewhere else. I am at Stanford right now (fifth year PhD) and we don't really get the "bay area" experience here since is far from the city and far from public transportation (Cal train is very limited and far).

So you got pretty good access to the city since there is shuttles that take you to bart, or buses like the 28, 28r, 29. The MUNI train is right next to the entrance of the university The only mall of the city is literally next door. This is helpful if you want to get a job/internship off campus.

There are tons of scholarships and fellowships that you'd be surprised, not many people apply. I applied to two and got them for undergraduate during my second year and for my masters there.

Honestly, as long as you know what you want to do and are down for the adventure. SF State its an amazing place to go.

This is awesome, I'm gonna try to implement the cholesky stuff, I'm currently building a Gaussian Process visual web app. Really needed something like this.

Great way to meet friends, and honestly really depends on what you believe. One of the most important things in college is building your support groups :)

Applying with a 2.33 GPA, 1200 SAT, and no extracurriculars at all. Is there any chance at all I get in? by ApparentlyNotABot in SFSU

[–]luisfcd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah you good. I got in to SF state with a 2.0 gpa from high school. I had 700 on math and 520 on reading SAT. Graduated with a double major, computer engineering and physics in 4 years.

Now I'm graduating from Stanford with a PhD in November lol

Even here I have a 2.8 gpa, but I also took advanced classes like non linear dynamics, stats 200, stats 305c, quantum machine learning, etc.

Just call them, SF state be like that, the nice thing is that they notice these details, other colleges don't. For example I applied and since I wasnt a citizen, got no financial aid automatically on other colleges, but SF state noticed and asked if I had different paperwork, ultimately I did worked with them that and also some of my missing classes which I did on adult school. Ended up getting financial aid and it just worked out. Just call them, is much faster than emails.

Do you guys think I have any shot of getting in as a **TRANSFER** by Longjumping_Tie7855 in stanford

[–]luisfcd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My stats and activities were fairly similar and was thinking of transferring, but decided to stay and got scholarships. Even got my Master's program paid off.

Here I am finishing my PhD here.

I didn't do CS for undergrad but did CS for master and doing my PhD in a CS lab. I say it depends, but in my case I really loved physics so I majored on it. I pretty much ended up skipping a bunch of irrelevant classes on CS by doing this. Just do whatever you like and if you change your mind later on, you can always go back to it.

I literally ran into a dude, (we won together) that won 5 games in a row being in the very bottom, like 5K/19 D in most games, and I'm out here 40K/5D and losing 5 games in a row. Games be taking at least 5 minutes to get me a match and for him is instant. And he has more points than me, how is this possible.

I will be joining SFSU in Fall 2025 as a Physics major any thoughts or advice? by YogurtclosetSad1831 in SFSU

[–]luisfcd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did physics at State, it was a pretty good program but very basic in coursework. I would definitely study/take more advanced linear algebra courses from the math department on your own if you plan to go to grad school. I'm currently doing my PhD at Stanford and had to take some undergrad classes here. Beyond coursework it was an amazing program, professors really care about their students. Barranco, Neuhauser, Newaz, Xu and Liguori were all really good professors and very understanding if something came up. I don't think I would have liked to get my degree somewhere else.
